One of the best movies ever made. The cameo of Randolph in Mortimer in Coming to America with Eddie Murphy was great.

You gotta love Akroyd for acknowledging Jamie Lee Curtis' "World Class Rack" as an essential element of the film.

Serious moment: These two lines in the movie are quite profound and always overlooked. Billy Ray: What if I can't do this job, Coleman? What if I'm not what they expected? Coleman : Just be yourself, sir. Whatever happens, they can't take that away from you.

You know it's a great movie when after close to 40 years it's still just as funny as when you first watched it.

They sure don't make movies like this anymore. This is an absolute classic masterpiece.

I absolutely can not believe that Trading Places is damn near FORTY YEARS OLD at this point! At 40 years you'd think that everything in a movie of that age would be dated, yet I watch Trading Places every single Christmas and it NEVER feels "old"...at least not 40 years old. Trading Places and Die Hard...the two best Christmas movies ever made in my book!

The genius of Eddie Murphy that EVERYBODY misses is the scene on the train where he's chanting. He is actually saying the name of the African Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. CLASSIC! I didn't even realize it until years after LOST was off the air.

I was sitting on the bench in front of a 7-11 at 2am, very drunk, eating my microwave 7-11 hotdog. About halfway through, I started eating the cellophane plastic that was rolled down. I immediately thought of Winthorp eating the salmon and beard. I started to laugh out loud. The more I thought about it the more I laughed. No one would come near me.

A brilliant, brilliant movie. Maybe one of the messages is: be careful about making judgements of people. I love the relationship between Ophelia and Louis. I love the way Valentine starts to care about his new home and Persian rugs. Classic.

I just watched this classic last weekend. No matter how many times I watch it, It leaves me cracking up.

The scene in this film that gets me is when they were explaining the commodities market to Eddie Murphys character and one of them mentioned Pork bellies. Pork bellies which make bacon and you might find in a bacon and lettuce tomato sandwich. Eddie Murphy looks straight at the camera he doesn't say anything just the expression on his face cracked me up.

I named my 92 Volvo "Inga" after Jamie Leigh Curtis in this movie because she is from "Sveeden" has great headlights and has a lot of miles on her. Great movie!

Sir John Gielgud in “Arthur” and Denholm Elliot in “Trading Places” proves that English actors are perfect for Butler roles for the Nouveau Riche of America in films.

I was 12 years old when Trading Places came out. We didn't have HBO to watch it so, I called and had it installed while my mom was at work. Eventually, my mom found out what I did, cancelled our HBO channel, and beat my ass with a belt. Hard!! I didn't care, I wanted to see Eddie Murphy! 😂

It's a wonderful film, and the casting was utter perfection.

This movie is an timeless classic. I went and seen this in the cinema as a teen, expecting Eddie Murphy at his best and that AND Jamie Lee Curtis in those two scenes! A great movie, superb acting, great script and a perfect cast. Something that has been missing for a few decades, 80s comedies like this.

I love Denholm Elliot in this film. When I first saw it as a quite young man, naturally Jamie Lee caught my adolescent attention and held it for some time. She still does, of course! But on many, many re-watchings, my appreciation for the work that Denholm Elliott did as Coleman the butler rises every time. He is so mellow, so under-stated, yet his micro-expressions are on point every single time. Two of my favorites: When he is pretending not to know his old boss Winthorpe and is about to close the door on him. He is very stern, and plays his role (I refer to Coleman playing the role of someone who doesn't know Winthorpe) so convincingly: "Coleman? There's no Coleman here. You've made a mistake." But just before he closes the door, there is a flash of pity on his face, of self-disgust, of "my old boss Winthorpe may be an asshole, but my real bosses the Duke brothers are major total assholes; I hate myself for doing this terrible thing to Winthorpe, who may be a snob, but doesn't deserve this." All said with a single expression in a fraction of a second before he closes the door. It is all written on his face, and you can tell. Brilliant acting! Then near the end of the film, as they are hatching the plot to get back at the Dukes. Two words: "Egg nog?" Decades of resentment, class warfare, pent-up frustration boiled into two seemingly innocuous words, delivered with more vitriol than they have ever held before. Denholm is a genius.

First Eddie Murphy movie with my parents, I was 10. In Paris, on the Champs Elysees, blown away at the time....the gorilla scene on the train at the end was hilarious. The 80s were amazing if you were a teen....

Well, true measure of a successful classic is on full display in the the comments by the type of comments. A good movie gets the usual praise and adulations from the fans, comments like, “Great Movie”, “One of the best”, “great cast” and on and on and so forth…BUT the true measure of greatness as shown by the above comments are the types of praise, in which commenting strangers all come together with the unintentional result of, in a way acting like like friends and acquaintances sharing their favorite moments and lines, reliving the movie scene by scene with each other as though we had all literally just stepped out of the theater on the original night of its release repeating our favorite lines and moments with the same level of heartfelt joy we experienced so long ago. Now that is the true measure of a great film. To feel nearly the same emotions and the joy of sharing them with others after so many years have past. True thanks to ALL involved with this film and the joy, entertainment and memories it created and brought to so many.

Love love love this movie! One thing I love is that they bring Mortimer and Randolph to Coming to America, giving them a second chance. Totally awesome move.

In arguably one of the greatest comedies ever made. Everything just comes together perfectly. It’s hilarious, but it also has plenty of heart without being too mushy about it. Every performance is literally spot on. The movie feels timeless. I’ve watched it over and over the decades and it holds its weight brilliantly. No doubt generations will appreciate love and laugh this masterpiece.

Those were the days when movies were so well scripted and satisfying you really don’t have to watch another one for weeks.
