Just being a acapela nerd here, but the fact that each of them have 4 to 6 octives of range means you can have two doing the same note and not being able to tell exactly who is doing which part, or if it is tuely pure voice or electronic effect(which is actually very rare). Much of the layering you think is multi-tracking is actually just two members who can do the same exact tone and notes. When you see them do these songs in person without microphones and still get that multiple sounds at the same time you know either PTX is just that good or they are really just aliens with multiple vocal cords.

Also, when people are exceptionally in tune with each other - as PTX often are - they can also create 'harmonics' which are extra notes that appear but aren't being actually sung or played.

The live Vevo recording is even better musically, if that’s possible 😁 . Mitch’s tone is even more impactful. You should react to that, too. You can also see a bit better who is singing what part. Both experiences are just so brilliant.

Yes and in this version you can hear the passing on from Mitch to Scott , which I love, so much better. I prefer this one😊

This is just so very fluid & dreamy! ❤ And I love when Kevin adds those bell like high notes! They are attributed to Mitch so many times, forgetting that Kevin is singing in 5 part harmony songs - and even sometimes between beat boxing intervals. The end of The Prayer is a great example!

Great reaction! This is so beautiful - I agree that it's surprising that it has so many fewer views than 'Oh Holy Night' but that is incredible too. I am a huge Mitch fan so I love this one because his voice is so angelic and beautiful.

Since this came out, when I have a crazy day at school (I teach clay & fused glass to elementary students) I get in my car afterward & put this song on. It instantly relaxes me down to where I can function in the adult world again! Thanks for pointing out the lovely lighting & edits to the music beats…things I never would have noticed but now can see!

I appreciate your comments about the video production - so many things I hadn't noticed - like the lighting and the edits on the beat of the notes. That's why I like find reactors who are knowledgeable and enjoy sharing their knowledge - I look forward to your reactions. To be honest, it wasn't my fave when I first heard it; it's SO slow. BUT, after a second, third, fortieth listening, I just love the way you can so clearly hear EACH note, and i enjoy Mitch's breathiness, which is unusual. The live Vevo performance seems sharper and has more clarity of sound somehow, but there isn't any interesting video to watch - they're just in a room and moving around, much like they do on stage. It's worth a watch when you have time, whether you react to it or not.

Love how you point out the arranging and how the voices are done, but also how well they present themselves with their costumes and the lighting and other media type things! Shows us what types of things can really help make the viewer have the best experience! 🎥 Definitely a fan of Charlie Brown and the other characters, including the Christmas special, watched them all the time!!❤❤

I think the live version is even better. I think they sound better and you can see who’s doing what. If you take into account both videos, the count is over a million. I’m kinda surprised Kiss From a Rose isn’t higher though. They killed it on that one too.

Re: View Count. This song was released first with just lyrics (Yule Log), then this studio video version, and finally a LIVE Vevo performance. In the Vevo video they wore less flashy attire and used minimal post production. They wore the same clothes as in their Vevo "Kiss From A Rose". The view count is over 1M when all the "Pure Imagination" videos are combined. A bit harder to obtain an accurate view count when all are released within weeks of each other.

I would love to see your reactions to Pentatonix singing two of their original songs, "Run To You" and "Happy Now." "Run To You" has no lead singer and no soloist; it's straight five part harmony throughout, not even any beatboxing. Like most of their music videos it's lip-synched - has to be because in part of it they were filming it backwards so the falling flower petals appear to be rising, and it's impossible to actually sing backwards and have it sound right when played in reverse. But Ed Boyer, who does all of their musical editing, somehow managed to make the voice of whichever person the camera is focused on sound slightly more distinct than the other voices. It's an incredible effect. And the video of "Happy Now" uses a LOT of visual techniques to enhance the meaning of the song. I think both of these songs are right up your alley, and I'd love to hear your take on the technical aspects.

I don't know whether it's camera angles and lighting, or whether it's the haircut and mustache, but I have NEVER seen Mitch look more like Freddie Mercury. Am I the only one? Now, Mitch is objectively gorgeous, and Freddie was more charismatic than handsome, but I kept picking up the same vibe. At about 8:38 the resemblance is uncanny.

I prefer the Vevo version of this. It's more intimate and just feels different than this one. Peanuts was my thing! LOVE them so much.

I find it interesting how Kirsten does'nt use her amazing vibrato. I thinks it must take more to control that than to use it

I also think it's a stylistic choice. Sometimes vibrato can be a little too strong over other vocal parts.
