It's good to see you're bringing this series back. I've also had a little more timing to check out new music so good timing! Also: When I heard the producer from foile a deux came back from getting the milk, I surely had to check it out! And ya know....the new fall out boy ain't bad. I can see myself coming back to a few tracks. If you're into some nice classic guitar riffs meets pop sheen and choruses, it might be worth it to anyone reading check out!

This was glorious. Also, so nice to hear your thoughts on Stardust in particular. I too very much enjoyed that record. “In another life you were my babe. In another life you were the sunshine of my lifetime. What would you trade the pain for? I'm not sure…”

I hope we get more of an evolution on some of the vibes on Stardust. Pete did say he considers Cork Tree - Folie as its own trilogy, and the same for the 2010s albums, and he said he hopes this is the start of something new (possibly another trilogy). And if that's the case, I really hope they keep Neal Avron as the producer given how hard Patrick fought for him, and just how much good stuff he's gotten out of the guys! Patrick also stated he hopes the band can do 20 more albums before all is said and done

So Much (For) Stardust has been on CONSTANT rotation for me! Definitely the most in love with a FOB record I've been since Folie (or maybe even IOH, my fav). I love SR&R, but damn do I adore this one! Edit: Funny that you mentioned I Am My Own Muse and Flu Game as the weak spots given that Flu Game is my fiance's favorite track and Patrick hyped up IAMOM as his favorite (tied with the title track)

I agree pretty much with your take on the FOB record. Their best post-Folie album imo. There are misfires here and there so I don’t think it’s a perfect 10/10, but there are some fantastic tracks and I had a great time with this album overall.

Oh boy, Nicole Dollanganger as the first on the docket. Hell of an artist. Impressively, her more recent work is lyrically toned down from the likes of Observatory Mansions and Flowers of Flesh and Blood, which… *hoo boy.* I highly recommend those if you want to have an extremely bad time. (Also, fun fact: I used to work at a bookstore in Mount Airy.) On a more meta note, I'm really glad that you're in a place where you're up for doing these again. i feel like i’m the only person who unironically adored MANIA… and to me, this record sounded like every single album they’ve made rolled into one, MANIA included. i know they said this was a follow up to folie, but to me SMFS almost felt like crashing from the manic high into a depressive episode. i adored it, but tbf i’m easier to please than most (and i’m also… not actually that much of a fan of tttyg-ioh era) (and i’ll admit for all my mania defense my favorite record is still save rock and roll)

Nice to see FIMI's a re back, and that you feeling well enough to do them again. My opinion on albums here that I heard: Nicole Dollanganger- can't get passed her voice, sorry Swiss Army Wife- good emo Ice Spice- fine EP, I can see the potential, but not great Sam Smith- in the middle on that one, I know some folks who call it their best and their worst album Ava Max- is she generic? Yes. Is she making fun pop? Also yes Young Fathers- maybe still needs to grow on me, but so far I don't really vibe with it, I enjoyed their previous noisier records more Rebecca Black- solid pop album, I'm rooting for her In Flames- their best since Come Clarity, wouldn't say it's still that good tho sadly Gorillaz- eh, I don't dislike it, it's fine Godsmack-pffft, sucks like all Godsmack albums, hopefully they not lying about breaking up US Girls-disappointing Model/Actriz- I love this album,one of my favorite records of the year, reminds me more of LCD Soundsystem with Xiu Xiu blend Nuovo Testamento-I prefer debut and wish it was longer but overall, good stuff Slowthai-his best album imo, very interesting and eclectic Haken- man, I miss when the band made much more interesting and hookier stuff like Vision, Mountain and Affinity, it's not even a bad album, I take it over their last 2 albums, but it still not a kind of prog I dig too much Meet Me @ the Altar- I don't dislike them, but they are so generic Suicide Silence- pretty safe album yeah, but at least they didn't go symphonic direction, I'm fucking sick of symphonic deathcore and how neither heavy not atmospheric a lot of it is Kamelot- yeah synths are awful, but the album itself imo is alright that aside, even if I get folks who just can't get past the synths Yves Tumor- their best album, wouldn't say it's AOTY material or anything but it's ok Babymetal- mid Fall Out Boy- the most I enjoyed FOB album since SRAR and tbh, the more I listen to it the more it grows on me. Also I don't think you're that much in minority with it, most of my friends love this one too Gonna peep stuff I haven't heard outside of U2 cause I have no interest in U2 reportedly making worse versions of their previous tracks for almost 3 hours

Nice to see you doing this again. Gives me a chance to check out more albums I might have missed as well. Foregone is definitely the best In Flames I've heard since Come Clarity. Even the more "alternative" sounding songs on the album I think are done much better than most of their 2010s output. I do understand and agree with some of your criticisms about the album though, cause it ain't perfect. If you want the classic In Flames sound, check out The Halo Effect which features all former IF members Jesper Strömblad, Peter Iwers, Niclas Engelin and Daniel Svensson, plus current Dark Tranquility vocalist Mikael Stanne. However, if you do want a great new melodic death metal album, check out the new Insomnium album Anno 1696.

Sorry dude but I gotta hard disagree with you on the new Haken, I really don't think you're giving it nearly enough credit. There are so many artists who have been inspired by Gorillaz at this point. Also, I think Albarn has done all he wanted to do. Lighting Up The Sky really isn't that bad tbh, I wouldn't call it an amazing album by any means. But as far as late stage Godsmack is concerned, It has just enough passion and decent songwriting in order to make it work. Definitely leagues ahead of When Legends Rise IMO. That said, Red White and Blue is the weakest song on the entire album. The rest of it is themed around self reflection and personal growth whereas that song is just the typical Pro-American anthem. But then again every Godsmack album with the exceptions of Awake and Faceless have at least one weak song on them. And for what it's worth at least Red White and Blue is not the Imagine Dragons core of their actual worse song Unforgettable. Though granted, I'm biased cause I've always been a huge fan of Godsmack's music and I view Lighting Up The Sky as not necessarily the greatest album, But a crucial album in their discography. And I for one can respect when a band realizes that their time in the sun is drying up, They could have just continued to go down the Papa Roach/Theory route and make super polished radio rock with 10+ writers on each song, But instead they took everything they had left in order to create a final farewell release. It's not the return to form that everyone has been longing for, But it didn't need to be. Though the first three are still leagues ahead of the rest of their discography anyway. Especially Awake and Faceless.
@BlakeMaxwellHart
@BlakeMaxwellHart Жыл бұрын
I agree, Lighting Up the Sky is better than When Legends Rise. I saw Rocked's short review on it, and I just laughed at how he took most of the album's concept at face value and based it all on the song Red White and Blue. I'm sure it'll end up on his worst of the year list in December (he gave it 3/10, so... Yeah). I've enjoyed Godsmack since 2016 and I don't regret it. Sidenote, aren't you the guy that Rocked blocked on KZfaq and Twitter? If so, then he's either a pretentious elitist, or he just comes across as one and isn't actually meaning too.
@PuddleOfPizza
@PuddleOfPizza Жыл бұрын
@@BlakeMaxwellHart Late reply, But yes I am the guy that Rocked blocked on YT and Twitter. I never figured out what the reason was exactly, But I speculate that it was my neutral political stances that got me canned. (I say this because the last reply I sent to him was about his stance on anti-vaxxers, And I got axed immediately after even though I wasn't supporting those people) Idk if he's necessarily an elitist, But he definitely lets his political bias cloud his judgement of certain bands and their music. I started watching him back in 2017 and he used to be a lot fairer with his criticisms than he is now, He was also an open fan of Godsmack for years until something flipped in 2020 and he started treating them on the same level as Theory of a Deadman and Puddle Of Mudd (Which his hatred of P.O.M in particular is comically over the top, Discounting the first RTP since that was actually good and fair with its critiques) Needless to say, His channel is nowhere near as good as it used to be. And it's a shame cause his earlier videos from 2015-2019 were genuinely great. But his bias gets in the way too much these days. That review of Lighting Up The Sky was especially bad (Dude called Growing Old, What About Me, and Best Of Times patriotic songs... Like what?)
@BlakeMaxwellHart
@BlakeMaxwellHart Жыл бұрын
@@PuddleOfPizza I agree. It's probably why I unsubscribed to his channel not too long ago. I began following him on KZfaq in late 2020/early 2021 and continued up until April of this year. Crash's review of Lighting Up the Sky wasn't nearly as bad (though the part in the video where he stereotypes their fanbase is uncalled for). Yeah, the three songs he mentioned have nothing to do with politics or patriotism at all. What made him think that you were supporting anti-vaxers? I've also noticed that he's not even doing the RTPs at this point (probably because people would feel guilty about liking their favorite music). I've agreed with several critiques in those videos, and have actually listened to some of the albums he's covered (Hoobastank's The Reason is mixed all over the place depending on what song you're on, and Puddle of Mudd's Come Clean isn't mixed well either, and Wes Scantlen's voice is an acquired taste). He's also not doing any long form album reviews or All Time Favorite Album videos (I'm sure the amount of videos on that list doesn't even cover half the amount of the albums he loves). I do understand why he refuses to talk about that one band Voldemort. Hint: It starts with L and ends with S.
@PuddleOfPizza
@PuddleOfPizza Жыл бұрын
@@BlakeMaxwellHart I just did a bit of digging into my tweet history and it appears that it was my anti-deplatforming stance that got me canned, And not the anti-vax stuff. Luke was defending Twitter's right to ban whoever they wanted and I brought up how inconsistent they are with their rules. (Cause they would ban users for the most minuscule reasons, And allow terrible people to abuse their DMCA reporting systems and get people removed unjustly) Which all of this is factually accurate, So the fact that this was what did me in confuses me even more than the anti-vax stuff. And I'd be able to look past all of that if he still made good content, But all he does now is make generic Top 10 videos and mediocre Album Reviews. With the RTP, All Time Favorites, Viewer Comments, Riffage, and Billboard Gets Rocked series' in particular he's said that he doesn't do them since they don't pull in enough views. So all that we're left with is this mediocrity. And again it's a shame cause those earlier videos are really good, I would consider myself a fan of Puddle Of Mudd (Though I recognize that their music is an acquired taste, And I don't think their material after Life on Display is nearly as consistent as their previous four releases including 1997's Abrasive and the 1994 Stuck EP), But Luke's RTP on Come Clean is one of my favorite videos because it critiques the music for what it is and acknowledges both the bands' strengths and weaknesses. Nowadays he just makes up these lame "roasts" and insults the bands for their politics rather than their music. Any time Godsmack gets brought up he does the same generic "Go Away, Keep Away, Stay Away" bit that has never been all that funny (It's not even accurate either since only the first album had that issue), Says that the band is phoning it in when he himself has been phoning it in for over a year now, And insults Sully for his politics. (And truth be told if Godsmack really were phoning it in they would just keep pushing out album after album like FFDP does (And they can since radio will play Godsmack's music regardless of what it is), But instead they're deciding to call it quits by putting out a final farewell release, They didn't have to do that)
@BlakeMaxwellHart
@BlakeMaxwellHart Жыл бұрын
@@PuddleOfPizza He's also not doing the Patreon question videos anymore. If he decides to bring back the old content, that'll be great. He has said that the RTPs and All Time Favorite Album videos aren't getting as many views as before, and that if the views for either of those got up again, he might look into it. Here are some suggestions for RTPs that were made by other people. Saving Abel's Self Titled. Papa Roach's Infest. Godsmack's Faceless. Three Days Grace's One X. Drowning Pool's Sinner. Staind's Break the Cycle. And probably many more.

The more I think about it the more I want to just give the new Haken album a 5 out of 10. The album is seriously doing NOTHING new at all and just so repetitive at this point. This album it really felt like they where just trying to fill the release quota (release an album with 2 to 3 year range) and doesnt feel as inspired as previous Haken records.

Not to cope over the lukewarm score you gave Haken's newest, but man, you sometimes talk about those rare songs that actually make you cry...... Eyes Of Ebony does that for me.
