Your rant is valid! It's like a different world! I think that inner-city schools are built to look like cold cells. I have seen districts that create and build the school to look like homes and places of community and family. I work in NYC, and there is no Teacher KZfaqr in NYC, so I finally see my reality in the schools watching you. Teachers put in so much, so many sacrifices and stress. Changes need to be made. Keep up the good work!

Thank you! I barely found anyone working in cities either! It was either suburb or down south. There’s definitely a difference!

You are so right about schools are different compared to where you are. I am in a wealthy school district that have spent millions on getting us what we need due to Covid, etc. It would blow your mind lol. Also, I’m allowed to come and go as I please regardless of the time/day. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else but I’m also grateful for the opportunity especially as a teacher of color. Ppl have no idea the time, energy, and resources that goes into everything!!! Keep pushing!❤️

Right! I don’t know if it’s keeping me young or aging me 😂

Yes! I love watching ALL the teacher set up videos, but it is so refreshing to hear from someone in a similar situation to mine.

Yesssssss, Girl! As a veteran teacher, I understand the rant, I moved buildings.....spent a month and a half there this summer on my own time and out of pocket! We are not allowed to go into school whenever we want.....weekends, nights, etc.....we scan in with key fobs and ours shut off at 4, we are also only allowed there while the custodians are in there. I would LOVE to be at one those big new schools with a huge room, storage for everything, schools resources provided like you mentioned, and the ability to go in whenever to work on stuff, etc.

Your room is beautiful. I know how it is teaching in an urban school. I'm now in a more affluent neighborhood so it's DEFINITELY different in regards to supplies, room size, and accessible materials.

Your color coded arrow idea on the floor is so creative! I hope it helped with social distance and just sheer traffic flow of the classroom!

Ah man. I feel this. I'm a new teacher, and I'm going to be teaching in the city I grew up in. (large inner city/ title I) I've spent so much money because I just know I won't be provided with the things I need to make the classroom homey. But at the same time im just worried but just want to be impactful in my hometown.

Your room looks awesome! I teach in a Title 1 school also but in rural Michigan. It is very challenging. Keep on loving kids!

Your school seems to have so many rules for teachers. Does that bother you? Just hearing about everything they require or won't allow stresses me out.

This is my first year at this school! It’s definitely an adjustment but the key is seeing how much is actually enforced. So far I’m not bothered by it, as long as I get ample time to prep.
