You can put a shelf riser in the bottom of your closet. They have metal ones at target that can hold the weight of your book bag.

I am glad things are going well. I would definitely need time away from the students. Have a restful weekend.

The pop it toys are really great. Offer it as an incentive to good behavior and work completion

Thought about it. He wouldn’t want to put it down to move onto the next subject/activity. This is a tricky one, I know. It would have to be NOT a toy type thing.

If you have a Smartboard, under display settings on your computer, you can extend your screen instead of duplicating it so you can work on your computer and still show a movie etc. Hope this helps!

Hello I teach elementary also 3-5 autistic students. Here are some things I’ve used in my 5 years of teaching. I have given each student some sensory toys like water beads, sensory beaded glitter water bottles, or puzzles to name a few.

As a retired 2nd grade teacher who began and ended my career teaching special ed kiddos, I have a suggestion for your little scholar who gets easily frustrated with his work. First figure out what his 'currency' is. What are his interests or what does he like to do, or what kinds of books does he like to look at? I've found that if you have a child who likes to draw or look at sports or comic books, or whatever the thing is that they like...if you give that as a reward they'll work toward it and it doesn't cost a thing. I had an autistic boy who loved to read the old set of encyclopedias I still had on a shelf. If he got his work completed he had 10 minutes of encyclopedia time. When I had a class of all 3rd -5th grade boys my first year of teaching, one of them was into heavy metal music. If he got his work completed satisfactorily he had 10 minutes of listening to his favorite band (with headphones of course!) I had a girl who loved to draw and color with Mr.Sketch markers and often needed to be away from the other kids or she'd get overwhelmed and act out. She liked to sit in a small space or a corner and draw. I got her a sketch book and markers and that was her thing to do to calm down when she needed a few minutes, then she'd be good to go after calming herself. If a student needs a 'fidget' to hold, give them a little ball of sticky tac to use so it's not used as a toy. Hope this might've helped a little. Good luck with your little scholars this year!

Thanks for the advice! I’ve tried a lot of different things he likes, but he’s not at the stamina to earn it. He just gets cranky when he’s sleepy, or when he gets stuck on a problem.

I am a student teacher, and my mentor teacher has to also submit printing requests.

@@elementaryandthecity5272 Definitely! I found that odd too that teachers can't print their own stuff. I hope you're acclimating nicely =]

This probably being weird but you can’t drive or you don’t have your own car. Cute classroom .

Not weird at all! I don’t have my license. Living in a city I’ve never really needed it. But I’ll be trying for one in the near future to have just in case 🤞🏾
