Final ever C130 J Hercules Landing and Take Off at RAF Cosford

This years Cosford Air Show fell perfectly with the retirement of the C130 J fleet from RAF service. So 47 SQN from Brize Norton sent ZH870 to the Air show for static. This video shows the final landing and take off over the weekend of the show. Enjoy one last time.

Great bit of kit. Spent 3 years on these as an engineer in the RAF in early 2000s. The first time you do a tactical landing in one of these it's terrifying. No idea why they got rid of them although I do know in Afghan we had problems with the aileron hydraulics quite often to the point we nearly lost one.

It's a real shame the C-130J is returing from the Royal Air Force. Lucky I managed to get a good few photos of one yesterday when it flew past

Can't they be mothballed or something? Especially at the moment when we might need them in parts not far east of here?

If the A400 is capable of fulfilling all the roles of the C130J, I wonder why the Luftwaffe have bought Hercules when they already operate A400s.

Big mistake, I see these flying in Canada in the future, we could use them as Forest fire suppression, food delivery, ect...

Unless they plan to cut them up on site, I would suggest it is perhaps not the final takeoff ...

No not at all the final takeoff but it was the final takeoff from RAF Cosford 😀👍

@@264flight It will be a shame to see them go, I know Canada still flies them, no doubt some other places too ... do we know what the disposal proposals are yet?

@@itsverygreen532 Hi Robin after talking to the crews on Sunday they were saying all the airframes are to be sold to other operators so these airframes will solder on for a few years yet but unfortunately not with our RAF.

what a criminal waste of a superb aircraft , i'm sure they could be put to better use rather than just scrapping them :(

I think the RAF are selling them not scrapping them. That’s what the crew of ZH870 weee telling me at Cosford I did say that the aircraft looked brand new close up. So these machines will carry on but just with a new operator.

@@264flight i would hope so , they are no where near worn out and could be used to fly supplies to poland for ukraine or some other useful purpose ! 🙂

I think the MOD wants a bit of a return on them. They are finding new homes gradually. The U.S. Marines have bought one and some taken by Bangladesh and Bahrain. There should be a good market for quality used C130s out there.
