I died at the Mindflayer but since the death animation takes some time after the "cait sith fainted" message pops up, Moogle literally punched his last HP away at the same time, and it counted as a win for me, that was my first try. I CANNOT believe that happened LMAO

Quick tip for Eldritch Horror: I don’t know why but the first 2 or 3 times I tried this with this strat, it would always target me instead of the moogle, so I figured there is a way to actually avoid it: After using your first limit break at the start of the battle you should be able to charge another one up by the time you stagger the Mindflayer. Hold on to it and don’t use it until you see Eldrich Horror pop up, then quickly go and use the limit break, granted you still have your moogle alive. This will make you immune and that’ll be it. Since it usually happens after it’s been staggered once, you’ll most likely end up killing it in the meantime. That being said, great guides! These solo bouts have been fairly easy thanks to you, can’t wait for the last two!

These videos have been a real blessing. Very clear and helpful. All I have left are the two duo legendary bouts for the platinum. Can’t wait to see how you tackle those!

Thanks to your guide I was breezing through 1 to 4 but unable to dodge mindflayer's Eldrith Horror. So I improvised and saved my Limit Break strictly for the purpose of tanking these laser attacks and it worked! Hope someone find this useful 😃

All this time and I had no idea hiding behind the rocks for psychotic break was a thing... I laughed so hard at myself when you showed that. 😂

This one took me about 5-7 tries because for some reason the Mindflayer did not want to aggro onto my Moogle reliably, even if I wasn't attacking at all. Finally they left me alone and I was able to do it. I also swapped Chakra for Healing materia as I found you don't really need MP during the mindflayer fight so if they do damage you, healing up is easier with the materia than with Chakra. Thank you again!

yoooo thank you for this guide once again, legit got on my first try right after watching and completing your yuffie one. It may have taken 14 minutes for me to beat it but I did it! Now I just got the last 2 legendary combat simulations to complete!

Thanks for this (and all other guides) your strategies are very helpful! Just an FYI, don't know if it's just RNG or they patched something up but got hit EVERYTIME by Eldrich Horror with Moogle supposed to be the decoy. I added Reraise at the beginning of the 5th fight and worked like a charm! (in case someone has the same issue). Anyways, thx for this great guides Optinoob!!

Thanks Opti, I followed the strat from your guide & was able to get this done! I took the enhanced malboro orb, hit the mind flayer with a couple of biora to inflict venom & slow to reduce his special moves.

Sometimes he would throw eldrich horror at me even with moogle tanking him. Always died to that. So I started using limit break to counter eldrich horror (during limit break you are immune to damage). And blocked every other ranged magic attack he'd throw at me in order to build up a new limit break for the next eldrich horror.

I'm so curious to see what your strategy will be for the Zack legendary bout. The sephiroth one is honestly super easy because Sephi is broken and spamming his shift slash ability gets you your limit break super quick legit got his done on the first go around but Zacks is a different story.

Love these guides. These are truly the reason I'll be able to platinum this game. The Brutal and Legendary bouts were going to do me in. That being said, for this challenge, I followed it mostly but I wove in Moogle Kaboom and Dodge N Dive when the moogle was getting low. Moogle Kaboom is free damage when they destroy your moogle. Just have to make sure to set it up whenever there's an opening, which there's plenty of in each fight.

Optinoob, you rock man! (I almost wrote "rock mana" which still fits.) I'm on this last single character one. I know its just a matter of repeateing it until the favorable circumstances arise, but man...I just want to open that box at Johnny's hotel so much. Couldnt have done it without your quakega builds, or fire absorb builds, or brumal form infinite ATB builds. You showed me that far from my initial impressions about materia in Remake, they actually gave us a system that stacks with unique circumstances like in the original. I'll get this last Eldritch bastard one day, thanks to you.

This is the worst fight for me so far, thanks for the guide! I had to modify it a bit, but I got it thanks to you!!! Here are my changes, in case it helps anyone else. - I swap out a few materia for Time and ATKMATK, since you can stop/slow enemies, and you generally use magic more than physical attacks (see loadout below). - I use Magnify Firaga on the first two rounds - In round 3 with the scorpion, cast Blizzara to pressure it, and Fira to knock it on its back if it's already pressured - I use stop on enemies whenever they're stagger to give me more time - When enemies are staggered, I cast Stop, then get on my moogle, then spam Moogle Knuckle - In round 5 with the Mindflayer, I use slow it on whenever it's not staggered, and save my limit break until it uses Eldritche's Horror, the animation lock will save you. - Weapon: Resounding Megaphone - MP Absorption == Fire & Ice, Magnify == Fire, First Strike - Summon: Odin - Armor: Cetran Bracer - Magic Focus == Time, Magic Focus == Poison & Petrify, ATKMATK, Speed Up, ATB Boost, Strength Up - Accessory: Gotterdammerung - Weapon Upgrades: Moogle Sentinel x2, Moogle Decoy x2 Not trying to leech views, but here's my fight if anyone needs it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbuao699v6myqYU.html

Not once but twice I got the Mindflayer to a sliver of health, then died to his insta-kill laser BS. To anyone else struggling with this, save your limit from the start of the fight for when he announces the laser attack (Eldritch Horror). You're completely immune to damage during the limit animation, so the laser will phase harmlessly through you. Edit: just make sure the moogle is out, as Cait can't use his limit without him.

Thx for the guide, did it with Golden Microphone for more slots+magic attack and Ice+Magic Focus instead of Speed Up, was clutch at the end of the Mindflayer fight, still took me 11 mins, not the hardest fight but just painfully long, there‘s a few of them in the game of this kind ugh

I died to the Mindflayer when he had the tiniest sliver of health leftover. My moogle died, I instantly respawned him but in the millisecond it took me to respawn he started Eldritch Horror so it targeted me instead of the Moogle and took me out from full HP to 0 even through Reprieve. I was so fucking pissed off!

This was for me the hardest of the solo fights, mostly due to the RNG nature of the decoy and the enemies one hitting you, but thankfully it is done know. Thank you mate!

Thank you! Extremely tedious but easy, overall ends up taking the same amount of time as doing a more difficult challenge multiple times. I took your video suggestion and took out the mp absorb and put reraised and I paired that with magic efficiency. Made me feel safer in the mindflayer fight though I didn’t need it. A suggestion for anyone is if the enemy is about to get you and youre far from the moogle you can just summon the moogle again and roll away and he’ll take the hit, for example the mindflayer teleported to me and immediately launched some orbs at me I just summoned moogle again even though he was still here but on the other side.

After few tries finally done 😮‍💨 thanks for the build & the amazing strategy! that was annoying as hell, if anyone still struggling with the last round i put Reraise, Hp up & healing and i get rid off the magnify materia i mean the first two rounds can be easily done without it just aim for the middle enemy or when they group together!

BOOM! I got this one tonight! Here is my advice to those that are still struggling. For Set Up... On the first 2 slots of the weapon make it MP Absorption with Fire & Ice Materia. On the second two slots on the weapon make it Cure Materia and HP Up Materia. Cure Materia is so you can use Regen. Essentially I got rid of the Magnify, but it's only used in the first 2 rounds, which are generally easy. Round 1, target the center enemy with Firaga and it usually hits the other 2 anyways. Round 2, back up, block and wait till they're grouped together and Firaga. Now for round 3 -5, after opening with ATB Boost and Limit Break cast Regen. This will carry you through those fights when you get chip damage. Round 3, use the Blizzara and Fira on the scorpion as much as you can. Takes him down after 3 rounds of it or so with the co-op Moogle and you attacking. Round 4, don't be afraid to cast Blizzaga (level 3 spell) on it a couple of times. Really speeds up the battle and you have Regen on... so less to worry about. Round 5, Anytime Mind Flayer disappears, RUN until he's warped back in... usually it will be next to you, and Keep Running away until you're at a good distance away. Don't "roll", it's too slow. You can outrun and then roll away from his purple shots too. Also, Poison him X 2 like Optinoob said. Also, thanks for the awesome strat and guide Optinoob. You Rock Brother!!! 👍 👊

Ok I don’t understand - Moogle was out, Mindflayer split in 2, used Eldtritch horror twice (each mindflayer copy used it at the same time), both shot at me not the moogle, I had full health, the first shot killed me, I reprieved, and the second shot then killed me for good. How did that happen? This is utter BS.

The problem i keep having in the mindflayer fight is that moogle doesn't pull enough agro most of the time which always happens right before that insta kill attack

Finally was able to get this done as well thanks to your build and strategy. It took about 20 tries because round 5 always gets me. So, this is the most difficult Legendary bout for me. I decided to make this a longer fight by replacing the poison and petrify with reraise materia so I have two chances of reprieves. Also, to get my HP back, when Mindflayer does the Telekenisis, I hide behind the rock and then do soothing breeze. There should be enough time to escape after the Psychotic Break spell from Mindflayer. It's a battle of attrition for this round basically. It just sucks if you fail since we gotta start back from the beginning! This was a 22 minute completion run for me. Now, I'm taking some rest by watching some Bond of Friendship videos and then go from there.

This fight is vile! Been struggling with it for like 2 weeks, tried this method, tried so many methods, there's got to be a much much much easier way to smash this out

Thank you, i finally made it on my 4th attempt. Its not hard but by far the most annoying Simulation yet. Because if you fail by bad rng in the end, you always know that you have to do this long fights again. Happy to have this one from my to do 😅

I started attempting this challenge at about 210 hours. I am now at 292 hours and STILL can’t beat the mindflayer. It never targets the moogle with its undodgeable purple orbs. Just spams me until I’m dead. I can’t progress further and there is nothing else in game left to do beyond the two challenges that are locked until I beat this.

Did it this morning, second go. Mindflayer stopped me the first time cos I didn't notice the Moogle had been taken out. Easiest legendary so far though, great guide cheers :)

Another W guide. Mind Flayer gave me a lot of trouble, i forgot reprieve but got through it the 3rd time.

When are you going bonds of friendship. Watched a lot of build videos for the brutal and legendary challenges, but always settle on yours because i have the most success with them

Did it 5th try using this method but swapped out chakra for reraise after getting screwed over by the mind flayer ignoring the moogle when it was on its last legs. I havent done the Friendship or Hero one yet, but I actually felt all of the other challenges up to this one were fine. This challenge was just poorly thought out with having the mind flayer at the end with what pressures but the rest of it was okay. Overall i ran around with 2 ATBs and only bothered to use them or attack when i had to use one to spawn the moogle. still took seemingly an eternity for how I prefer to play but now i never have to do this again so worth it.

Just sharing that this solo challenge is doable without the Gotterdamarung but employing a similar stategy to this one. My build is a magic build: Resounding Megaphone Swiftcast - Ice; Magic Focus - Ice; Magic Plus Cetran Bracer MP Absorb-Fire/Ice; Healing, ATB Boost, Enemy Skill, Precision Defense, Steadfast Block, First Strike In lieu of the free limit break, using Moogle Kaboom before the Moogle gets killed was key. If you time it right, the Moogle can also be summoned out of harms way while prepping it for a devastating final attack upon exit. This was key during the Mindflayer fight. And can consistently deal 3.5-4k of damage when it goes off. All other respects, it plays like this. Magnify isn’t really necessary since the Blizzaga does splash damage and can easily clear the first fight. 2 firagas dispose of the 2nd fight. Thanks for the guide mate! Gold as always.

Save your limits for when mindflayer uses eldrich horror, it will make you immune when he cast it. Most of the time he would use it on cait but occasionally he would still cast it on me. Use reraise incase you dont have a limit in time to bail you out. It's so much easier. Also keep the moogle out the entire fight and keep your distance. My setup was Weapon golden megaphone Cetran bracer Gotterdammerung Swiftcast+ice, mp absorb+ice, atb boost, magic up Armor: elemental+fire&ice, mp absorb+ice, reraise, Chakra, first strike, hp up.

Second time!! I wasn't paying attention to Moogle's health as much as I should have lol. When his health was very, very low, I resummoned him. I hate Cait Sith so much! I love his character but I hate the way he plays. You're 100% right Opti, Cait is more of a support character. He's not someone to play alone. Finally got him out the way though. Bring on the last 2! This one took me the longest out of all of them. 12 minutes it took.

I found that subbing magic up for a reraise will give you a more reliable revive for the mindflayer fight!!! Great guide as always Optinoob!!!
