Final Fantasy 9 - Black Waltz vs Cargo Ship, Crossing South Gate

After defeating the Black Waltz, the team attempt to rush South Gate before it closes on them, however the Black Waltz isnt finished and begins pursuing in his own airship. He attempts to fire magic at the ship but Vivi counters with his own magic, heading into South Gate, the Black Waltz's own magic ignites the engine of his own airship causing it to blow up, damaging South Gate and allowing the team to escape to Lindblum. I don't I'm afraid. I'm totally against FF11 and FF14. The MMORPGs should of been developed as spin off games rather than part of the main series.

Taken into context of what happens outside of the cutscenes the black waltzs actions music and movement is in my opinion the best depiction of nature of evil without any dialogue. No voice no text is needed. This scene is filled with sadness, epicness, determination and loss. But for the like of me i could find rarely in any movie, tv show or book how to portray evil without words or voice. Just the emotion the you have in the presence of it. Its not his eyes, its not even his obvious words beforehand. Its how the BW casually murders creatures made from same thing as he is without remorse when they first show ANY sights of self awareness or being a person. Evil is incomepetance and hathred for personhood. Evil is, violance in the face of love and in the face of being something other than a mere machine. A drone.

He was the only one that Steiner warmed up to straight away, in fact Steiner regarded him as having incredible potential & formed attack techniques in combination with Vivi's dark magic abilities. Plus he was part of the prototype range that had a longer lifespan, I think they wanted to test the potential with the prototypes so he had alot of advantages in comparison to other Black Mages.

vivi is my most favorite character in the final fantasy series. he's very effective until disc 2 but unfortunately he's not that great in battle with advanced bosses in disc 4

@@taroupriapus5202 In my first playthrough he was prett much the mvp of disc 4. With that flare Reflek combo he has a very low effort 9999 damage set up compared to killing 100 dragons ore catching 100 frogs and the Doomsday dark absorb combo is awsome.

While this scene is incredibly powerful... really? I think FFXV did an excellent job of having you build up comraderie and take pictures and have a good time with your friends, and then strip you away of everything at the end: your fiancee, your power, the Regalia, Prompto, daylight, being free to explore the world, and finally 10 years of your life. The moment before facing the final boss where you go through all your photos was really profound. It's hard to believe how someone couldn't feel emotional during that. I thought that was remarkable.

To me FFIX always had a good balance of everything to take you on an emotional ride. It have comedy, tragedy, sadness and wholesome moments. I love it.

I rmember this battle being one of the most emotionally charged out of all the ps1 trilogy of ff games (right up there next to the fight with Jenova after Aerith dies in 7) and honestly, I can say that this moment here was when Vivi truly earned his fan favourite status that he damn well deserves. Such a fantastic section of a well crafted game, beautifully directed, programmed and scored by all involved. Thank you Squaresoft, for a wonderful story.

Until this point Vivi seemed like a helpless kid who always needed rescuing. You learn here he actually has some powers and can hold his own against enemies.

+Tremenator The cool thing about Vivi though is that he is only dangerous and intimidating when it is actually necessary. He doesn't run around and try to be tough just for the sake of being tough and "show other people that he can take care of himself", he has a very humble and likeable personality as long as he doesn't feel that he is in great danger - _that_ is when he gets mad and uses his powers.

The entire first disk of FF9 is SO well executed. Every event leads into the next with so much thought and care. Along the way, you learn more about each of these characters as their personalities naturally bounce off each other and they slowly become friends. They all make up for each others weaknesses and strengthen the group as a whole.

The greatest final fantasy game, because it hit the mark in every element that made the series its name. Final fantasy VII might have been revolutionary but IX was all the soul of what Hironobu Sakaguchi vision was.

I always wished that Black Waltz III made more appearances as a recurring Angagonist. It would have been cool to fight him throughout the game(and possibly work for Kuja for a while before they betray each other) and then have to fight a powered up version of him in Memoria.

In addition to being powered by the Mist (so the ship can't go above it) they are trying to escape the Black Waltz too. If they could just go over the gate, what would prevent the Waltz from following them and take them out ? Vivi was already passed out so...
