Fun fact: it is entirely possible to flash your high-beams at a bus, race against it and win, then take the bus body and complete the whole game while driving a bus that can drift at 200+ km/h

I like how unapologetically this game rides the coattails of Initial D, to the point you start with a Levin instead of a Trueno (they’re the same car besides the headlights and engine)

The trade off is unlike Initial D, you can heavily aftermarket mod it than get one racing only engine and call it a day like Takumi. One seater, middle engine, double turbo, emptied out to just the seat and the frame, make your family car a running war crime with the amount of Gs it's making. It's even a plot point. Though it doesn't have any consequences of anything, you can make a [self-murder] cannon of a supercar by wedging a Ferrari into a Mini Cooper that should flip itself over off a 90 degree turn, but stays on the ground like a tank in game.

I figured the AE86 was a generally good platform for beginners back in the day. Initial D used an 86 as the hero car because it was un-notable. Does every franchise that features the 86 necessarily draw inspiration from Initial D? (Actually asking)

@@porschelover04anything since about like 2005 yes. Once JDM culture became popular in America (in part thanks to fast and furious) we discovered initial D and from then on it’s almost guaranteed to be in spider by the series.

I have spent years brainstorming a game where its half visual novel an every conversation with other racers changes the relationships so you could convince two racers to hate each-other so they blow up a new route for you by committing terrorism or you mess up an they kill your allies via large truck

Since this game relies so heavily on prerendered graphics I wouldn't hold out any hope on a remaster, Squaresoft never kept the original assets for their games in this era.

I remember the translation coming out two years ago. I managed to grab a projector cord for my laptop to be able to display on my TV (because it didn't have an HDMI port for... some reason) so I could EXPERIENCE this game after years of hearing about it on a big screen. Got myself grub and drinks, sat down ready for a full day with no responsibilities so I could get full immersion... then after doing the beginning race, I got a text from my uncle telling me my grandmother passed away. To hopefully stop myself from rambling, my mood was shot the rest of the day and I hadn't touched RL since. This video popping up was the reminder I needed to get a fresh start on it. I love the atmosphere, the music, the character designs and concept. Plus it's in that sweet spot of coming out not long after FF8 and FF9, which are some of my favorites.
