well yeah they admitably should have made it more clear but you can still piece things together. Hes the embodiment of non-existance and death. a sort of, paradox entity yes but one that manifested itself just to reset the entire universe. The "piece it together" part is that this isnt some twist/surprise villain or anything. He's been there always since the beginning of the story. because you see, you should think of a Necron as an idea/theme, not as a character. and that idea has been one of the main themes, if not THE main theme of the game. death/non-existance. Kuja was scared of dying, Vivi and black mages were afraid and wondering what death even is or means. The whole Genome race had no fucking clue what existance even means or really is. Its just clear as hell that this is the main theme of the game. and one that just honestly wont just have a concrete resolution., so you cannot solve this by just having a "OOOOH" moment for the characters. No instead that idea COMES into life and challenges you in an all out fight for existance itself. And you win this fight only because Kuja teleported you out of it, saving you from death in his last act. Thats basically what this is And honestly i find this to be propably the coolest fucking final boss fight in any videogames just for that reason. Its so unique and out there. Tho i do admit it should have been spelled out more clearly, and i bet people would think tis evne better than the sepiroth fight. it just needed more direct explanaiton.

Mega Flare is the move used by the Bahamut eidolon and Flare is just a spell you can learn. Summon damage is based on a ton of different factors you'd have to google search to understand lol. Vivi's flare is much more simple its just his magic str minus Necon's magic def.

Neuro after gaining his power and independence, Kuja is devastated to learn he was created to be mortal, not unlike the black mages he created and looked down upon. The weight of his own mortality is too great and he snaps, adopting an extreme nihilistic view on life. Paired with his own narcissism, he views all of life as meaningless without him and seeks to snuff it all out. While he doesn’t succeed in destroying the Crystal, his fear of death summons Necron who is a primordial being from the beginning of existence. Necron took Kuja’s fear of death and attempt to destroy the crystal as proof that all life sought salvation from the uncertainty of existence. In essence, Kuja played at being an Angel of Death but Necron is in a sense the FF9 universe’s true Angel of Death or more accurately, a god of nothingness. So yes from a thematic standpoint Necron absolutely works because by defeating it, the party shows that there are those that reject Kuja’s way of thinking. This is why Necron questions if the will to live is truly that strong but also remarks that it will never be the end as long as there is life and death. Thus Necron is eternal. Obviously the game basically pulled Necron out of nowhere and didn’t give it much explanation but if you follow the themes throughout the whole game and pay attention to what Necron says, its existence within the game makes sense.

deaderall totally agree. Necron could have had a better execution, perhaps in the form of foreshadowing early game or more crystal lore but it’s inclusion absolutely made sense when taking the entire game’s events into account.
