Never underestimate squeenix’s stupidity

TL;DR. When you start losing money, you fall back on what you know.

Anyone who believes this includes any console game from their flagship IP’s like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest , Kingdom Hearts, Nier, Team Asano’s titles etc is kinda crazy. This is probably stuff like Forspoken, Harvestella etc.

Only thing i hope that isnt effected are HD-2D stuff, which are typically trpgs like triangle strategy, tactics ogre: reborn and the potential FFT reborn. Dont really compare about the other game franchises.

Few companies mishandle their budgets quite as badly as SE. Add into that the number of recent projects that have just been complete disasters, and yeah, you're gonna see some massive losses. I'll hope you're right and they abandon any of these outside projects which, as has been the trend, nothing more than disasters for them. They need to focus on their core franchises. Ya know, the stuff fans actually want from them. That and probably put a tighter leash on the Square-Enix NA branch. Or clean house.

Would be unfortunate if FFT doesn't get a remake. But at least we got Matsuno's Magnum Opus in TO:Reborn

Harvestella was fantastic but clearly didn’t have enough resources invested into it, which is a shame because it had even more potential… even still though, great game! I was hoping for a sequel but lol guess that’s not in the cards

Before watching this I watched another content creators take on it (TopicArlo), my thoughts are this: I'm in the camp of waiting and seeing what's going to happen. Babylon's Fall and Marvel's Avengers was a huge misstep and hopefully Square won't try and focus on trends that are problematic and instead put elements into making high quality products that fans will love. I feel like Octopath Traveler 2 wasn't advertised enough and the given how many games that they have been releasing over the last few years it almost seems like their games are cannibalising each other. I didn't pick up Harvestella or Diofield Chronicle the year they came out (which was the same mind) not because I didn't want them but other games including other Square games I wanted more. Also in 2022 two games in the Voice of Cards series dropped and soon another Saga game will come out and past Saga games have been ported to modern systems.

The "abandonment loss" is about projects deemed unpresentable and halted midway of development. That massive special loss is mostly (probably >80%) contributed by the scraped Dragon Quest 12 alpha version, another candidate may include Final Fantasy Type-1 which was announced 9 years ago.

You want more money, open up those games for xbox, more people who can have access to an item higher chance of sales.

With the investment amount for the projects that were cancelled, it has to quite a few titles that are simply gone now. Too bad we can't confirm the games involved. Pretty sure some fan favorites are probably in there, sadly.

I’m surprised that among everything else that SE did, you didn’t mention the financial *disasters* of “Forspoken” and “Babylon’s Fall”; the fact these were actually shit-quality money sinks, with the former probably intended to be a franchise and the latter another live service, means a lot… Not to mention the (former) president trying to go into the dying NFT market, along with other failures like “FFVII: The First Soldier” or that Chocobo game being so bad they were dead in less than a year. Suffice to say, even without issues like the PS5 being limited in availability or certain folks not resonating with their big FF projects- I’ve made no secret of my own personal lack of interest in FFXVI, and FFVII: Rebirth might have scared people for being the “second in a trilogy” (not unlike “Star Wars” trends) on top of Remake having a vocal minority who were incensed by particular narrative changes… Even without those, Square hasn’t exactly been managing its money well. It Although given how trends go and their *previous* brushes with financial disaster (the pre-FF 80s and then “Spirits Within” almost canning the Enix merger…), I’d have been shocked if such a big player hadn’t overreached again at some point.

I bet the 2D HD Final Fantaay game they canceled was tactics R. Can't be anything else. Also they lost money because of the idiotic loyalty to the Sony brand which is extremely weak in Japan now. They refuse to go multiparty for some dumb reason. They got what they deserved. Follow ATLUS' lead and they'll succeed.

I think FFT whatever Reborn or New Sequel still have a chance to be happening. Mobile Game has already existed, and Yoshi-P mentioned it should be nice to have it. The rest is... which team will do it?

I'll be so happy when FFT remake is finally available just so it will shut up the crowd who won't stop endlessly bitching that it needs a remake. This, Chrono Trigger and the "where's the Switch 2 already" crowd are the holy trinity of "shut up about this already". They'll happen when they happen.....

Do we know anything new yet? Seems like the leaks and rumors have slowed to a crawl. I was really holding out for the Remaster/Remake too. I didn't even start playing Triangle Stratagy and Tactics Ogre because, I didn't want to spoil my dessert, Final Fantasy Tactics.

I'm also not terribly worried about established "Million-Sales" franchises being cancelled. The AA one-offs are an unfortunate loss though.

Square probably would’ve had better returns if they didn’t go out of their way to hamstring their own releases. Of the smaller games, a decent number were of middling quality at best. And locking FF16 to Ps5 was a mistake.

Trying to change the flagship final fantasy franchise was a blunder alongside all these new projects that didn’t work. Being blindly loyal to Sony obviously isn’t working anymore maybe they need to follow the example currently being set by Atlus. Personally I haven’t played anything named ff since ff13, square has had serious issues with creativity since then. Maybe they need to go back to what put money in the bank instead of trying to trend and create the next big thing. Funny they know old re-releases can make money but can’t seem to figure out that doing more of the same with modern titles would work.

Honestly, I'm worried about losing out on a third Dragon Quest Builders game.

Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game of all time. Could use a nice remaster.

I'm not worried about FFT Reborn, I'm sure it will come out soon. What I AM concerned about though is the future of Bravely Default. Since Final Fantasy has turned into action games, it's the only turn based RPG series by Square Enix that I'm still interested in playing.

If they remaster the FFT with the same sound quality as the psp it will be shit, have you ever paid attention when you kill an enemy, the annoying noise it makes? The best made version with incredible sound quality is the PSX one, And if they do the same thing as Legend of Mana, it's going to look like crap, all pixelated... I hope that if that's really true, they bring a smooth, smooth and well-made game!

Low key, instead of a FFT remake, I would love to have a FFT Advance 3, maybe set in FF14'S Eorzea instead of 12... one can dream...

They should cancel anything pushed by ESG and stick to the values that guided their games from the 90s.

I agree that FFT Remaster/Remake is safe. I just hope that they keep it a small-ish project. Hoping for just a remaster with maybe some bonus content. I'd hate to see it get Nomura'd like FF7 or turned into trash like FF16 somehow.

I don't know who's in charge at Square but they're morons. They keep on blundering in the most obvious ways. Anyone with an ear on the ground is predicting their failures and successes with dead on accuracy. They seem to always learn the wrong lesson and it's so frustrating for us gamers since we may disagree on our favourite FF but we all basically want the same things from them we've wanted for the past 25 years. Diofield Chronicles is a good game but of course if it gets a scuffed development and no marketing it's going to fail. Unicorn Overlord is proof of that since the gameplay core is the same it was just developed with much more love, resources and respect for the audience. The thing that annoys me the most is that they try to appease at oldschool jrpg and trpg fans but, in their new games, they clearly save too much on production values AND they remove all the depth from the systems and the stories as if we're brain damaged. Like, who needed an FFT clone with no jobs and missable content?

16 and the ff7 remakes were great games. But i think limiting them as a playstation exclusive for their first year did hinder sales

This is why you don't pander to woke people who don't play game. FF16 would have blow up if they focus on making a game rather than whatever that was. FF7 remake also woke AF making the OG fan mad. Like dude FF is they main product but sure focus on pandering and have the it ban in few countries and M rated where kids can't play.

If they only would stop making woke games like Forwoken..
