At the end, when Squall turns off the radio after he learned that Rinoa is a sorcess, knees in front of her, takes her hand and pulls her wordlessly in his arms ... At this point, his heart is wide open and he acts completly instinctively towards Rinoa. This is so beautiful and sad at the same time, because he might never get the chance to be like this again. And although I know this is not the case (because they save her and so over), It alwasys breaks my heart over and over again. This scene is just really really powerful.

You know a game is good when people starts sharing their stories. Props to Squaresoft.

The impression I got from Squall and Rinoa's relationship is that Squall fell in love first, but Rinoa realized she was in love first. Squall of course didn't realize his feelings for Rinoa until she fell into a coma at the end of Disc 2, but there were subtle hints that demonstrated that Squall at least subconsciously saw Rinoa differently from other people. Rinoa I think realized she felt something for Squall when he was attacked by Sorceress Edea at the end of Disc 1, given her strong reaction to the attack, and that's why her demeanor changed towards him after that (and her feelings continued to grow from there). It's truly a fascinating and beautiful relationship.

Happy to say that after 38 years, I found my Rinoa and living happily together.

I remember this scene so well because it was the first time I ever heard an actual voice in a final fantasy game even though it's a song. 7th grade nerd chills I'll never forget... Good stuff.

The reason why this romance is great, is because of how well it did the good girl softening the guy's stone-cold heart, I always did the jig music at the concert, because I really like the conversation they had, because as the music plays, you start to see the door to Squall's heart opening up and Rinoa being the key. Squall trying to wake her up from her comatose state which is one of the big moments where his feelings for Rinoa are strengthening, next in line is this moment where Squall and Rinoa are finally alone together and they talk about their pasts and Squall reveals to her why he pushes everybody away from getting too close to him. I'm not gonna lie, this moment is what solidified the romance as one of my favorite video game love stories. I also hope I find a girlfriend one day, and our relationship could be this intimate

I too can relate to squall I find it hard to open up to others especially when I was mistreated as child so I shut everyone out I wanted nothing to do with other people because all I knew from other people was that they were cruel but I finally had someone come and break down those walls around my heart

I can relate this. Nine times out of ten, when I pick up my girlfriend, I have to remind her to put on her seat belt.

This scene always make smile like an idiot. The hopeless romantic in me couldn’t be happier. :)

I played this scene for the first time 14 years ago tonight (it is 2-1-2016 at this posting) when I was 14. I was turned down for prom that day and turned my ankle playing dodge ball. It didn't matter because I got to see Squall finally get his lady later that night. FF8 will always be special because it surrounded a turning point and formative time in my life. FF8 and Metal Gear Solid are the most important games I ever played because they came at a time I needed them most, even if my problems as a 14 year old were insignificant relative to the real challenges many have to face every day.

This game had such a beautiful story i wish square enix would make another love story like this. I love Squall's character so much I can relate to him about being so afraid being close to someone in fear of losing them. Also the music is so beautiful in this game it completely defines the characters such as the line in this song "So let me come to you, close as I wanna be" explains how rinoa feels though squall is to afraid to let her to close.I could only wish my "Rinoa" will find me one day

Everyone raves about 7, but while the gameplay destroys anything afterwards, including 8, the story and romance (sorely missing from 7) just shines like a star here. Legendary game with awesome music and cuts scenes, does not get enough love.

Omfg... I just applied to a job at a gaming company and was asked what my most memorable gaming moment was. This scene immediately came to mind. It's been almost 20 years and I remembered it perfectly...this was the first time I ever heard lyrics on a song in a Playstation game. It was such a powerful scene to begin with, but adding Eyes on Me was truly the coup de grace to my heart.

It's amazing they timed the dialogs and the action to the song. The way they interacted with each other, and ground control, and how Squall continued his transformation, grew up a little. And I agree with whoever that said no remakes. It's not the picture, or the CGI, or whatever. There's a style to the whole production that I think would change if it's reproduced.

I'm like squall emotionally, not socially. But this game and this scene is very powerful. One of the rare few things that make me feel alive, feel that spark, that make me cry.. I want to find love again someday. I want to be truly loved and to love in return.

I can honestly say, I don't think any of the Final Fantasies I've played have ever measured up to Final Fantasy VIII when it comes to the romantic scenes. I don't think any I've played measured up to creating a couple I cared about more than Squall and Rinoa either - I know not everyone likes them, but they are the best to me, and I really feel like I cared more about them from a relationship standpoint, while the other couples/potential couples just had some cute moments.

Squall is such an awesome character; he wants to be brave like a lion to fight off his shy and introverted nature.

When Squaresoft was legendary.....before Square Enix became a thing :(

@Omegaknuckles You put my feelings so eloquently. I love Rinoa and Squall; I can deeply connect with them and their stories. VIII is definitely an underrated Final Fantasy... but it will always be one of my all time favorite games. I'll never forget it.

Nostalgia brought me here. FFVIII was my favourite game when I bought it in 1999 and it still is. I'm replaying it (yet again) now and can't get over how much the game draws you in...this scene is truly magical. Something else. You can tell how much the character designers really thought hard about what each character would say given their personality and this scene is pivotal in developing Squall and Rinoa. I love it when Squall says, "I'm not your mom." Thats almost kills the mood LOL

I first heard this with a girlfriend who barely cared for me. I tried to use this song to speak to her because the lyrics kinda applied but she never responded to me. It wouldn't be until 6 years later that I met the woman who would respond to me in everyway that I would ever need. But back when I had that terrible, distant girlfriend, FF8 was there as a comfort for me, as many of the SE games have been. And I always loved this song. Still do, even if the memory of that terrible girlfriend remains.

This is amazing.

This is one of the most magical scenes in video game history. The character development of squall over the course of FF8 is something nothing short of spectacular. For me FF7 remains my favourite but this is such a close second. The love story is brilliant and anyone who's played the game and seen the ending...well you all know how amazing it is. It's a shame FF12 and FF13 failed to have nowhere near the same impact as the PS1 FF's. C'mon Squaresoft, please make them like this again!
