Final Fantasy XI Lore: Ch.1 - The Immortals of Aht Urghan

The first in a new series. Final Fantasy XI has some really good lore but chances are a lot of players will skim over it or miss it entirely since time is precious in an MMORPG.
Since this is my first attempt making a Lore video it's format is subject to change in future episodes. It also might be a bit odd for some of my regulars to hear me delve into a more creative field rather than just relay information through a job guide, so try be kind if it doesn't sound quite right.
For your convenience I have broken the video apart into chapters. Their timestamps are below.

Congratulations Rua - I can only imagine the hours you invested in making this video, but it is much appreciated by us mere mortals as the resulting video was simply fantastic. Informative and entertaining, I for one am very much looking forward to seeing where you take this series.

Absolutely incredible I’ve played this game for the better part of 15 years and still didn’t quite understand the blue mage role in aht urghan up until today. Hopefully there will be more to come!

I watched this video a year ago and began XI a few weeks ago. I'm having a ton of fun and just unlocked my BLU! Ty for doing these ^^

Thanks for making this, there's been a huge hole in the shape of XI lore when it comes to videos, and this is on the right track. I'm still not done with the video though, but I couldn't help but notice that early on it's implied that the blue mages/immortals were established after the 5 serpent generals, when they've clearly been present before the generals were 5, as seen in the Mihli Aliapoh quest Soothing Waters (one of my favorites in the game).

We discover during Rugahdeen's origin story that there have been several generations of the Serpent Generals and that our current five are the first to have been deemed worthy of their titles in quite some time. I will probably do a video on the Serpent Generals actually. You might have noticed I used some footage from Soothing Waters for this video.

@@SplitFinn Nice, thanks - I noticed that as the video advanced - I watched Soothing Waters multiple times (I find it to be a nice microcosm of the issues of the broader ToAU story, only without the supernatural elements - try replacing Tsahya with Ephramad), but admittedly I haven't gone over Rugahdeen's story as often. great work, and I'm looking forward to see what else you'll present lore-wise. Speaking of which, this would be a lot easier to share on Twitter - you wouldn't happen to have an account there?

Awesome video! Since the lore is often spread out over the lifetime of a job's progression, you don't get to see it in this kind of story format. It really comes to life and grounds the job in story. Thanks for all your work!

Loved every moment of this video. FFXI’s lore shaped how I appreciate storytelling, and Blue Mage was my favorite job next to Corsair. Wonderfully executed, my friend.

Congrats on this new lore video.I for one have played FFXI since it came to North America, and have always enjoyed the stories that it tells from the missions and quests to the trials of taking on new jobs. Although this didn't spoil anything, the way you told the story by means of the cutscenes with your voiceover really gave a unique telling of Blue Mage that I'm sure many will enjoy. Personally I have enjoyed a lot of your videos and found practical guides for several jobs I enjoy playing. Lore videos are awesome though as it's helped me show some of my friends the cool features of the game I enjoy so much, even though they don't play. A huge thumbs up on this video and hope to see more lore videos whenever you get around to them.

Having never read much of the dialogue in my 18 years with this game - this series is only increasing my appreciation tenfold. Thanks for this work! I definitely missed out on so much to appreciate! But it is also cool to consume in this way

Creative idea. BLU had my favorite lore for the game and made me fall in love with the job. Prior to FFXI I used to love BLM but the story in the game and the style changed my favorite job in the series.

Fantastic video, great format! Even though the Blue mage quest line was one of the things I completed when I came back to the game a few years ago this was a fresh perspective. It's hard to keep track of everything that's going on while reading through pages and pages of wikis while completing the quests and taking breaks to level up.

Necrocomment, kinda, but I've been recently getting into XI through a private server, and while it's been a slow start to play and figure out where to go, I like the way it plays. I have also been itching to check out some of the lore, and after this first video, I'm looking forward to watching more. :)

I love the lore of BLU, second only to DRG for me. They seemed much bigger than the character to me. BLU has you becoming something more, no longer mortal. DRG has you bonding with a holy wyvern, who you will raise to be a wyrm. Even the power you borrow in its infancy is mind-boggling. It also seems as if our link is different from dragoons of the past. Pup was my favorite to play, and the one I got the furthest with, but, man, the memories.

Watched several videos but it wasn’t until this video I got vaatividya vibe while listening. Maybe it’s because it’s a lore video, much of what vaati does with the souls series.

This is the blue mage I wish we got in 14 I loved the job in 11 along with puppet Master we've had our far east and even India expansions in 14 I want a near east expansion to based off of treasures

Sir, this is wonderful. I have been looking for something like this for FFXI for years. Your work parallels the Destiny 2 lore videos of My Name Is Byf ( kzfaq.info ). Please continue this work!
