All of Penelo's quickenings are scary, honestly. Intercession's Japanese name is "Power over Life and Death", where you can literally see her taking the enemy's soul out and trying to destroy it. Evanescence is "Vanishing Like Mist", and she just tries to obliterate the enemy.

I like how their quickenings reflects their personalities: - Vaan's impetuous and energetic spirit / fire and storm. - Balthier's rational and logical way of view the world / lines, triangles, numbers multiples of three and simetry of his powers. - Basch's life of war / thousand swords, fierce, violence, total destruction. - Fran's spiritual and ancestral conections / feral moves, wild. - Ashe's royal heredity / light, lightining, graceful moves. - Penelo's sensibility / dance moves, spiritual-like energy

Improving visuals, english and japanese voices, improved sound and being able to choose between the original and the new one, auto-save, shorter loads, facial expresions and more. The game is pretty close in looks to a ps3 title, the main thing that shows it's age is that many things have a square shape or not very round shapes.

Cheap remaster as always. Always wondered, why couldn't they take High-Quality models the used in cutscenes and transfer it to gameplay? One answer comes to my mind - they are too lazy and hungry for cash.

All I remember is how broken these quickening chains were. I got to late game using nothing but quickening as to beat boss fights then realized how ass my characters were when I couldn’t beat basic monsters

Quickenings were great... for the early part of the main story. Once you get later into the game, their primary use is to see if you can pop a concurrence and spike something to avoid pattern shifts (like Zodiark). Once you get to the extra content, you realize how pointless it is to pop a quickening when an Esper may end up doing the job. Zeromus in particular has the highest single damage output, but there is nothing wrong with tossing Zodiark or Shemhazai out for a quick burst of 60k.

Omg hahaha it was the same for me, I had to use my quickening for every single monster and I finished to be stuck. I had to lvl up for 2 consecutive days to reach a normal level. Still… I never used penelo and she was lvl 20 while others were lvl 50 haha

In retrospect, it would have been cool if each character had slight elemental affinities as indicated by their quickenings. For instance, Vaan does slightly more damage with Fire (pyroclasm) and Aero (white whorl) spells, and Ashe does more damage with Thunder and Holy, etc.

FFIX have powerful being too. Zidane can also use nuclear energy, Garnet and Eiko are capable of summoning the almighty Eidolons, Vivi is a powerful mage, and Quina can use a frog skill to deal 9999 dmg hehe

I really hope they'll give Fran a role in this remaster. Like she has the lowest overall state in the game, the high vitality is useless in normal situation. Make her fast with a good magick power and decent strength. She'd be great.

If anyone plays Dissidia Opera Omnia they really did a great job with faithful animations of the FF XII cast! Ashe's animations are my favorite and they're really pretty in Opera Omnia too

I like the Quickening attacks and all... but one thing that really made my ass itch, is that they NEVER canonically explained in game how they work.. or how non warrior types like Vaan and Penelo.. even learned to use them so skillfully without training. My theory was always that they would take all the condensed mist in the area, and mold it into powerful energy spells with their wills.. and use their newly molded weapons against whatever foe they were fighting. But even if that were the case, it still doesn't make sense for civilians to have that much manipulation over mist without proper training. Like.. it woulda been dope for Basch, an ex soldier. Balthier, an ex Judge. Or even Fran, a Viera, one with nature to pull a Lulu, and explain how it works to the newbies. Even when Basch 1st used his mist attack early in the game, it wasnt properly explained. It was just looked at as something he could do, and that was it. I wanted more lore.

I don't remember where, but I do remember reading something that was stated by the developers about how quickenings work. It's kinda like what you theorized. They take all of their own internal magic power (MP) along with a lot of concentration and channel the mist around them so that their MP and the Mist work together to create high-power spells. That's why in the original game, every time you used a quickening, it would drain your MP gauge. Then again, the quickenings are just limit breaks, which are practically never mentioned in any other Final Fantasy game with them lore-wise.

@@tj-hc1xq It just irritates me from a story telling perspective.. Cuz like... how did Vaan and Penelo learn how to use mist attacks? In their world, it seems too be a pretty strong technique that requires heavy mastery to utilize.. even for skilled mages and Warriors. Did old man Dalan train them? I'm sure Migelo didnt. Balthier being a former judge. Acceptable. Fran and the viera being in tune with nature, mist and magic, acceptable. Ashe receiving military grade training by the resistance and Vossler (?) Acceptable. Basch goes without saying. But Vaan and Penelo are shown to have no real combat experience. Pickpocketing, and occasionally fighting off wolves and cacti in the desert using sticks and knives doesn't Justify it for me. Hell.. there shoulda been an IN battle dialogue sequence when they 1st used it.. at LEAST expressing shock that they were able to successfully. Just bad writing from that perspective is all.

From what I know, it seems like anyone with a connection to the Mist (i.e., all of Ivalice) can use quickenings. Gabranth, Vayne, and Dr. Cid all use strong abilities that could reasonably be their quickenings, after all, and then there's Dissidia Gabranth. It just requires a lot of concentration and magick, not necessarily intense training. Everyone's quickening is unique, so it seems like everyone just molds the Mist into whatever they will it to be. It's not unreasonable to assume Vaan and Penelo could become strong enough to generate the magick power they need through all the adventures they have throughout the game, in my opinion.

@@Uri_Mercury I mean limit breaks are never explained very well, I mean how does cloud strike so many times with omnislash at near light speed when there is no materia that can make you that op. I mean in all honesty its just there to be the characters finishing move. I guess from a lore perspective 12 does the least explaining but then again the game was all over the place and way too ambitious for its time.

I like how the characters' quickenings all seem to have some kind of different theme for each character. All of Ashe's involve some kind of "Holy Light", all of Basch's involve immense force (blasting, shattering and exploding respectively), all of Penelo's involve...her...dancing, i guess? That can't be the only thing they have in common, can it? Fran's all have something to do with the physical body (breath in Shaterheart) and Balthier's are all some kind of natural catastrophe, which makes me wonder what Vaan's is supposed to be. At first i thought "Energy" or "Magic", but White Whorl seems kind of odd one out for that. Unless you count the actual Kinetic energy of the wind, which is also weird in and of itself...

Red Spiral, White Whorl, Vaan's theme seems to be tornadoes or whirlwinds. Except for Pyroclasm. That's just as DBZ-esque as Fulminating Darkness.

Concurrences and I think they're mostly luck. Make sure you have lots of MP even though they don't use it for that, it makes the chain longer.

I still don't know how my PS2 didn't completely fried rendering these. I get that they used the low-poly models for the quickenings, but still. FF12 is still the best looking PS2 game imo.
