Surprised you are ruling out Elvis in makeup/hair when it’s essentially the favorite. It won the BAFTA and won makeup and hair in separate categories at the makeup and hair guild.

Am mainly in agreement with you here, Mr. Rowe, especially on the inexplicable omission of "Decision To Leave" and certainly how beautifully Mr. Hoffmeister lensed "TÁR,: As usual, you make a good case for why you're predicting what you're predicting, even in categories that seem to me less likely to prevail than they may appear. You are ignoring the precursors that Elvis won for both makeup and costumes. Which makes it the frontrunner in both of those categories and add to that that Butler is probably winning and that Elvis is a huge box office Film and was nominated for Best picture aka everyone had seen it. Mrs Harris goes to Paris has no chance cause it's the films only nom, zero precursors win and the film won't be seen by all the voters. Cruella was HUGE summer blackbuster and Jenny Beaven won every precursor for it.

Butler is not winning Best Actor
@antoniodjordjevic9493
@antoniodjordjevic9493 Жыл бұрын
@@ikexbankai why? Golden Globe and BAFTA is much stronger combo, the fact that he is playing beloved Elvis and that it did much better with Oscars(best picture nom) than The Whale is telling. Every time in last few years there was a race the Bafta+Globe winner from a stronger film prevailed over a SAG winner with personal narrative in a weaker film(Colman over Close, Hopkins over Boseman, Affleck over Washington...). Add the fact that The Whale underperformed with Oscars, is very controversial film overall and many publicly dislike it. At this point i would be surprised if Butler doesnt win. He also fits the young newcommer with a lot of Hollywood future(in blockbusters etc) playing an icon in abox office sensation (Eddie Redmayne, Rami Malek).And im saying this as someone who is rooting for Fraser and has zero interest in seing Elvis.

@claudettewright365 what I meant by Parasite, is AQOTWF Would win IMO if not for Parasite winning recently, not Parasite winning precursors. Crouching Tiger Should have been first international winning Best Picture, did not, then Roma Should have, it did not. Parasite did. If Parasite didn't win (if not for Parasite), AQOTWF Would be the first to win, knocking EEAAO off its course. The only lock this year is Avatar, visual. This season has been crazy and unpredictable. AQOTWF Is just the film to take It away from Everything.

My current GoldDerby predictions (as of 11.3): Best Cinematography: 5. Roger Deakins (Empire of Light) 4. Darius Khondji (Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths) 3. Florian Hoffmeister (Tár) 2. Mandy Walker (Elvis) 1. James Friend (All Quiet on the Western Front) I'm not knowledgable enough to comment on this category so I'll just mention how I'll never stop saying the name of the Bardo cinematographer to the tune of "Chin Cheng Hanji". In all seriousness, I don't see how All Quiet misses this category given its strength in the techs. Best Costume Design: 5. Shirley Kurata (Everything Everywhere All at Once) 4. Mary Zophers (Babylon) 3. Ruth Carter (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) 2. Catherine Martin (Elvis) 1. Jenny Beavan (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris) This category really baffles me, since no contender besides Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris comes all that close to passing the eye test for me, and yet it's considered the least likely. I'm still gonna bet on it, but I'm well aware that I'm probably gonna be wrong. Best Editing: 5. Mikkel E. G. Nielsen (The Banshees of Inisherin) 4. Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond (Elvis) 3. Monika Willi (Tár) 2. Eddie Hamilton (Top Gun: Maverick) 1. Paul Rogers (Everything Everywhere All at Once) Betting against the editing/sound stat is ballsy but EEAAO just seems undeniable by this point. Best Makeup and Hairstyling: 5. Camille Friend and Joel Harlow (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) 4. Heike Merker and Linda Eisenhamerová (All Quiet on the Western Front) 3. Naomi Donne, Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine (The Batman) 2. Mark Coulier, Jason Baird and Aldo Signoretti (Elvis) 1. Adrien Morot, Judy Chin and Anne Marie Bradley (The Whale) I assume we all predict this category will coincide with Leading Actor this year, and I happen to predict The Whale for both. Best Production Design: 5. Christian M. Goldbeck and Ernestine Hipper (All Quiet on the Western Front) 4. Rick Carter and Karen O'Hara (The Fabelmans) 3. Dylan Cole, Ben Procter and Vanessa Cole (Avatar: The Way of Water) 2. Florencia Martin and Anthony Carolino (Babylon) 1. Catherine Martin, Karen Murphy and Bev Dunn (Elvis) Clear toss up between the top 2 here, but the reason I went with Elvis has to do with my pick for the next category. Best Score: 5. Son Lux (Everything Everywhere All at Once) 4. Volker Bertelmann (All Quiet on the Western Front) 3. Carter Burwell (The Banshees of Inisherin) 2. John Williams (The Fablemans) 1. Justin Hurwitz (Babylon) Continuing my previous statement, I just can't see Babylon winning 2 Oscars, and I think this is where they're not gonna miss. As to the other nominees, I actually think each of the nominees has a feasible chance of winning. In particular I believe this is The Fabelmans' best chance of not going home empty-handed, which ultimately I think that movie will. Best Original Song: 5. Tell it Like a Woman (Applause) 4. This is a Life (Everything Everywhere All at Once) 3. Hold My Hand (Top Gun: Maverick) 2. Lift Me Up (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) 1. Naatu Naatu (RRR) This is one where any winner besides Naatu Naatu would shock me. Best Sound: 5. The Batman 4. Avatar: The Way of Water 3. Elvis 2. All Quiet on the Western Front 1. Top Gun: Maverick Vroom vroom. Best Visual Effects (SUPERBET): 5. Top Gun: Maverick 4. All Quiet on the Western Front 3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 2. The Batman 1. Avatar: The Way of Water I still need someone to explain to me how a movie that prides itself on achieving all of its visuals in-camera and not using any vfx ends up nominated for Visual Effects and NOT for Cinematoraphy. Academy brain go brrrrrrrrrr. Best Animated Feature: 5. The Sea Beast 4. Turning Red 3. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On 2. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 1. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio If I had a 3rd Superbet I'd use it here. Best Documentary Feature: 5. A House Made of Splinters 4. All That Breathes 3. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed 2. Fire of Love 1. Navalny If the war in Ukraine could get a worthy song to win the Eurovision for the first time since Heroes, it can and will elevate Navalny to an Oscar win. Best International Feature (SUPERBET): 5. EO (Poland) 4. Close (Belgium) 3. The Quiet Girl (Ireland) 2. Argentina, 1985 (Argentina) 1. All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany) I don't have a mortgage, but if I did I would bet it on this category. Best Animated Short: 5. The Flying Sailor 4. Ice Merchants 3. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse 2. An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake and I Think I Believe it 1. My Year of Dicks I have them ranked by funniness of the title, and I refuse to change it. Best Documentary Short: 5. How Do You Measure a Year? 4. Haulout 3. The Martha Mitchell Effect 2. The Elephant Whisperers 1. Stranger at the Gate As you've seen in the previous category, I have 0 knowledge on shorts, so I'm not gonna say anything about this category and the next. Best Live-Action Short: 5. Night Ride 4. Ivalu 3. The Red Suitcase 2. An Irish Goodbye 1. Le Pupille

I doubt it will tbh, esp considering she just won for Shallow only a couple of years ago. It’s not like Mahershala Ali and the Best Supporting Actor category - plus the Oscars have always been rather stingy when it comes to rewarding major pop stars, even in this specific category, unless the song in question is a James Bond theme or a tie-in with a beloved film that receives multiple nominations, as was the case with Shallow and ASIB. The real race is basically between Naatu Naatu and This Is A Life - Lift Me Up might score a surprise win but I also doubt that one. As for Diane Warren, I doubt she’ll ever win a competitive Oscar at this point, considering she just won her honorary Oscar recently - after a dozen plus nominations to boot.

Here are the 2023 lists of Academy Award nominees of 2022 that I hope they’d won (even though I never saw The Fabelmans nor Everything Everywhere All At Once), but they’re all great, fantastic movies. BEST PICTURE: Everything Everywhere All At Once - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang, producers (Even though I never saw that movie though, but I think it deserved that win though. I really want either Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, or maybe even Top Gun: Maverick to win Best Picture too, because they’re all such great movies. If Top Gun: Maverick wins for Best Picture, then that means that Tom Cruise will finally win an Oscar for producing the film!) BEST DIRECTOR: Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert - Everything Everywhere All at Once or Steven Spielberg - The Fabelmans BEST ACTOR: Austin Butler - Elvis as Elvis Presley BEST ACTRESS: Michelle Yeoh - Everything Everywhere All at Once as Evelyn Wang BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Ke Huy Quan - Everything Everywhere All at Once as Waymond Wang BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Angela Bassett - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as Queen Ramonda BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Everything Everywhere All at Once - Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert or The Fabelmans - Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAYS: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery - Rian Johnson; based on characters created by Johnson and the film Knives Out or Top Gun: Maverick - Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie; based on the film Top Gun written by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Joel Crawford and Mark Swift or Turning Red - Domee Shi and Lindsey Collins BEST ORIGINAL SCORE: Babylon - Justin Hurwitz BEST ORIGINAL SONG: "Hold My Hand" from Top Gun: Maverick - music and lyrics by Lady Gaga and BloodPop BEST SOUND: Top Gun: Maverick - Mark Weingarten, James H. Mather, Al Nelson, Chris Burdon and Mark Taylor BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN: Avatar: The Way of Water - Production Design: Dylan Cole and Ben Procter; Set Decoration: Vanessa Cole BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Elvis - Mandy Walker BEST HAIRSTYLING & MAKEUP 💄: The Batman - Naomi Donne, Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine BEST COSTUME DESIGN: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Ruth Carter BEST FILM EDITING: Elvis - Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond or Everything Everywhere All at Once - Paul Rogers BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Avatar: The Way of Water - Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett

@@TheAwardsContender yup, it's very rare seeing 2 stars in the same frame & both being great dancers do that.

Ruling out Elvis for Makeup & Hairstyling? Absolutely disagree. I can see this film sweep the craft categories.

I believe that Cate Blanchett will win. Hopefully I'm right. She delivered the best performance.

2023 was by far the worst year in Oscar history for nominations. Especially for acting. AMPAS decided to have a diversity year and nominate anyone who was black, Asian, Gay/Lesbian, Jewish etc. As a result people who are nominated do not deserve any recognition for their mediocre roles. But AMPAS is trying their best to push these movies down our throats. Pathetic affirmative action, diversity inclusion and as always the LGBT agenda. Elvis was a disgrace to the King, Banshees of Inisherin was the Irish version of Dumb and Dumber, Aftersun was a painfully boring joke, Everything everywhere all at once was the Asian Moonlight (a crap film hyped up for the sake of diversity inclusion), Avatar was a money grab, All quiet on the western front was unfinishable, the Fablemans was Jew glorification and Tar and the Whale was all about the ongoing gay/lesbian agenda. The only good movie so far was 'To Leslie' starring the wonderful Andrea Riseborough. It is the one true great performance of this years otherwise horrible

At this point, with most of the awards being spread out, I don’t know who will win in these categories. Hell, I’ll say that ELVIS will sweep the oscars. I mean anything can happen so we’ll see

@@slickwill9000 It’s because the haters (mainly racists and people who have extra-snobby taste) were always there, but are coming out of the woods now that EEAAO has a very solid chance at winning Best Picture.
