Amy lost her mother, yet goes on to become not just a good, loving person, but the very archetype of Motherhood itself. She doesn’t just nurture and save lives, she becomes a gently fierce lioness fighting for nature, and as this scene so brilliantly shows, she is the Mother Angel.

I agree. And I love how, as she is sitting with her father on the shore of the lake, watching her children swim, safe and happy, we see that Amy's bond with her father has healed now, because she is hugging him in this moment and holding his hand....but we see that her bond with her own mother is still present, as well, because she is wearing her mother's silk scarf...a subtle reminder that her mother's love still resides in Amy's heart. And I love how that beautiful song ties together beautifully with the beginning of the movie. The song played when Amy was in the car with her Mom....in that moment she lost a parent and in this moment, she has not only become a parent, herself, to these geese, (they literally call her Mama Goose) she has healed her relationship with her father, as well, and this is reflected in Amy hugging her father and holding his hand...a stark contrast to the beginning of the movie when Amy wouldn't let her father get close to her AT ALL.

These scenes of the geese flying over the autumnal landscape during the golden hour of sun before it sets is simply amazing and this incredible song and music simply takes it to the next level.

One of the most poignant and powerful features of this great film is the sublime gentleness of the story of epic and mythic triumph it tells. That is a telling contrast to the world of big machines. The late- day golden sunlight on all of the figures that the cinematography captures adds greatly to the poignancy of this tale of mythic but gentle triumph. The heroes here triumph by being good, loving people.

I was going through the rabbit hole of You Tube and watching different videos of bird formations and things like that. I suddenly thought of the movie Fly Away Home. I typed in the title and the final scene came on. My mother died a year ago and she loved to fly an airplane. She had been in all kinds of aircraft from ultralights to sailing without an engine. She always said she wanted to come back as a bird. As soon as the video started I burst into tears. The girl in the ultralight had also lost her mother and I thought of myself flying next to my mother, who always wanted to come back as a bird.

this film has got to be one of the most heart warming films ever made, and i dare you to not shed at least one tear when she finally gets south with her babies, and i do wonder just at what age she started acting, and at least in this film, she has already show that she is a fine actress who also has the confidence and acting ability of someone far beyond her actual age that she was while she was making this film, and then she goes onto star in the x men films, and starts to grow into a woman, who`s acting ability improves beyond even what her ability was before, but then when she`s finally all grown up, she goes onto star in true blood, and while this has got to be one of the greatest tv shows ever made, and it`s worth watching for any scene that she`s in alone, when she is getting it on with a vampire, and is possibly even naked, then i do think that not only will you realise that the young girl who starred in fly away home, is now a beautiful woman, but you may also have to look away, or cover your eyes, when she`s getting all romantic, and especially if you still see her as a young child.

Two days ago I was driving past a park I grew up playing on and for the very first time I spotted two Canadian geese one regally sitting the other picking for food. They had to be hungry or needed to take a break because the only time you would expect to see geese in our area is only when they're in the air flying north or south. In any case I'm still amazed I was able to catch them on the ground and as I watch them, this movie came to my mind.

I have this movie on blu ray. Had to order it online, couldn't find it anywhere else. I was born in '88 and this film was '96 I believe but our of alot of childhood films I grew up loving this one. Also made sure my daughter's would grow up on this film too and they love it. One of their all time favorites. Mary Chaplin has a gorgeous voice and this song was used in the beginning during the crash ultimately losing the mom and it made me cry and this scene they used the same song and couldn't be any happier with the soundtrack. Used it during a very sad scene and they ended the film with the happiest scene and same song.
