I'm a Honda Pioneer 500 fan and I've been enjoying watching your videos on your turbo and I'm sure it's helped a ton specially with the lift kit and everything. But watching you drag race doesn't make it impressive I would love to see you drag race against more Pioneer 500's because everything else is pretty much winning against you. And I would love to see you go up some steep stuff no matter how rough or steep it is but slowly and it doesn't matter whether it's in 2 wheel drive or in 4-wheel

I laughed so hard at the Greg/rain suit/rear ending story. I think I bought the same rain suit in which I threw in my camper just in case. Well the day came when I needed it while setting up during a torrential down pour. Needless to say I looked like the hulk ripping out of my clothes by the time I was done and completely soaked to the bone. So I can relate Greg. At least the wife got a laugh out of it 🤣. Great video and if I owned a P5 I would definitely upgrade to a turbo kit.

It does fit! We tried it on one of the trips out. It’s tight, less than an inch of clearance on each side, but it fits! I do believe on the video where we ride with the Yamaha testers is where I show going across it. Not sure if I’ll turbo the Rmax. It’s main purpose is as a family hauler and it has plenty of power for that. But...you never know😁

Absolutely! Yes it’s a lot of money to throw at a “budget” SxS but these P5’s are tanks and bullet proof so it’s a great platform to build on.

while it looks like you are having fun riding I can see any factual reason for the Turbo If I can see a real reason to buy the Turbo that show me that it really does boost performance without any downsides to the durability of the Machine then it just seems like another way to spend money. If I had wanted a Racing utv I would have bought one. I knew going in that it would not be the fastest nor the Best Mud machine. I bought it for the Compactness,Durability and the Price as I suspect most did. I am happy with it as is, other than the Roof I put on it and the better tires I am going to put on it. But whatever floats someone's boat is fine with me !!
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 2 жыл бұрын
Just go back and watch my previous videos. Again I didn’t turbo for speed but for wheel spinning power to help spin bigger tires and it’s done just that. And to top it of off I did shave a good three seconds off the zero to thirty time which is HUGE! Now yes, most people who bought a P5 isn’t going to feel the need to turbo and I know that but I’m getting a surprising amount of feedback from owners who want to. Pushing the boundaries of what we think is possible or not contemplating on how something can be improved means we would never see any innovation. Would you still be happy driving around a model t Ford everyday or a horse and buggy? Well, if no one ever dared to improve those into today’s modern automobile that’s exactly what we would be doing. I prefer to be someone who dares to take a chance an take something in a bold new direction rather that leave it to become old and stale. Is it just another way to spend money? Isn’t buying a SxS in itself just another way to spend money? That’s the beauty of freedom in that we can choose to spend our hard earned money on what ever we desire. 😁

@@AppalachianMountainRiders If the turbo does this then it should be able to be proven by Mechanical or electrical test that show it increases Horsepower or decreases lag time of engine response and not a O-30 test which can be subjective due to rider error,Not taking the same exact Path as before,change in temp ,pressure ,engine temp ,tire temp etc and any number of other Variables that are not present in a in a more controlled test. I may walk or run faster on any given day and I may have eaten apple oatmeal on one of the days that I did in fact walk or run faster but it would not be rational to attribute that speed to the fact that I ate apple oatmeal on that day. The other factors might be I had more or less sleep that day,my blood pressure was Higher or lower that day etc. Any number of factors could be attributed to the difference in my performance. I do believe I have heard other People say that the turbo does not increase Performance. I understand the concept of Innovation I have driven a Horse and buggy but not a Modelt T. Regardless I PERSONALLY would not buy a Horse and Buggy nor a Model T and try to turn either into a a Maserati. As far as a Bold new Direction I get that but If a Turbo is not used that does not Leave the Pioneer as Being old and stale ,it merely leaves it to doing what it does at the performance and price level that it was designed to do and be. In addition if performance was in fact increased by the use of a Turbo what level or reliability is Lowered . You Mentioned that you had Lowered the level of boosts from 11% to 7 % and that the Head gaskets would probably thank you. Again My PERSONAL take on this is I would Rather Have the Reliability than a small increase of wheel spinning ability. A gear reduction will do the same thing and to a degree lighter tires will do the same thing. A Race car or a Pulling Truck or Tractor May have great Performance but may need to be worked on a constant basis to keep running and I do believe in the Law of Diminishing returns of economics applies to most things in life. Of course buying a SXS it is Just another another way to spend Money And as far as the Beauty of Freedom to spend ones hard earned Money on Whatever we desire that is true. That is why I said at the end of my Post "But Whatever floats someone's Boat is fine with me !! " Which is another way of saying that its your money so spend it like you want to. I do enjoy a lot of your videos and it is nice to see someone who obviously is having fun doing what they do !! I certainly hope you continue with the channel as I have learned how to do things that I would not have know how to do without your explanations.

I would love to get Mighty Mouse on a dyno! That would be awesome to see some actual hard data on the difference with and without a turbo but unfortunately I live too far out in the sticks to have access to one without hours of travel. Maybe one day I’ll get the chance but till then I can only go by the tests I’m able to perform. Regardless it has been a fun project and I’ve learned a lot in the process. We’ll just have to wait and see how the reliability is affected but so far I’ve put a couple hundred miles on total and the P5 shows no sign of ill affects but obviously that’s way to soon to tell. But it is a Honda so I’m hopeful it will still last the long run!😁

So how much more power does it have with the turbo? I know a stock pioneer 500 is very slow and sluggish, feels like driving a tractor. I considered getting one once until i took it for a test drive, was a complete slug. I'm guessing it makes it more in line with the power of the Rhino. Why doesn't Honda simply put the 700 engine in the 50" Pioneer anyway? That would negate the need to boost the power of the 500.
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 2 жыл бұрын
I’m pushing near double rear wheel HP from stock right now. Going off the guys in Florida that are working on a supercharger @ 7lbs of boost I should be some where between 30to 35hp at the wheel. Figure stock HP is only 28hp at the crank that’s a great boost in power. The 700 engine would be pretty awesome in the P5 as long as the 3 speed doesn’t come with it. Give me the 700 with the 5 speed the P5 has now and that would be a pretty sick combo in the P5 chassis!
@gregrowe1168
@gregrowe1168 2 жыл бұрын
@@AppalachianMountainRiders I see there is room for a base model 500 and a 700 or one with even more power. The stock suspension doesn't have much travel either, as I see you have addressed with upgrading it.
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, stock the P5 only has 5.5” of travel which is half of what all the other 50” machines have. With the long travel I have 12”-14” of travel which is a tremendous difference in ride comfort.

P500. Has a better power to weight ratio, better transmission, more maneuverable, not as good suspension but some shocks make it much better and with the long travel kit it is better than the 700, not as roomy but that’s subjective...lol.
