To highlight the genius of the DSR raid for those unfamiliar with XIV, I wanted to expand on it.. The first phase with Haurchefaunt was impossible to save him. You go through phase 1, the battle ensues, Haurchefaunt blocks the spear, but ultimately pierce prevails and breaks through his shield, and we lose our hero. A classic retelling of the story of Heavensward. The genius of it, is that you fight through from phase 2 onward (the new "beginning" of the ultimate), fighting Thordan followed by Nidhogg over multiple phases before you get sent back in time to the encounter with Haurchefaunt once more, except with one massive difference: your party (should) now have a level 3 Limit Break. Using a Tank Limit Break to save Haurchefaunt, your party has the capability of rewriting history. In the next phase, similar to Phase 2, you fight Thordan, however this time, the party neglects killing him (otherwise the timeline proceeds as normal and you enter phase 3 instead of phase 7), resulting in a fight against the enraged dragons Hraesvelgr and Nidhogg, whereupon defeating them allows Thordan to be empowered by the felled dragons Nidhogg and Hraesvelgr and he becomes Dragon King Thordan, resulting in a final encounter of defeating the big-bad-evil-guy. The story of the fight is an ode to rewriting the history of Heavensward which many regard as one of the biggest story highlights in the whole XIV main scenario and shows the Warriors of Light impacting history through an epic fight, even if only recounted in a bard's tale. (Personal note, while the story of the ultimate raid is incredibly done, as someone who made it to phase 7 before the static fell apart, the fight itself isn't that crazily memorable)

This was a good write up describing the fight. The only thing I disagree on is the fight being memorable. I’ve cleared it a few times but I think it’s very memorable. No only on the quality of the fight, but how much it tests you, and of course my own personal experiences and time spent progressing it. My favorite fight in the whole game.

Just some advice, for any XIV related stuff you might want to get someone who has played the games. For anyone who’s interested there are a few mistakes, some of which I’ve seen mentioned in other comments but I’ll add to that. Odin and behemoth were fates from 2.0, not added later. The Odin added in 2.5 was a trail of average difficulty. Also not sure if you just worded it weird but instant death planes were in Twintania and the non savage nael. But the footage used was the non savage nael while you talked about savage and the Odin trail while talking about the fate, so I do think things were a bit all over the place.

@@red5robb1 I stopped before I got that fair honesty. As a massive fan of XIV I do think he should have skipped the mmos cause I think the term super boss doesn’t not work for mmo just on the nature of the game type. No hate to the channel cause I love there content most the time and the best final fantasy wikia also has the mmos on the super boss section while not fitting in. Most mmos are about progress and pushing gear and skills higher and higher. Having that harder boss and a final pinnacle fight to reach and beat isn’t the same as a super boss because of the fact most the game is optional to begin with. I think I’m rambling at this point but I think I made enough of a point.

I was super hooked on Brave Exvius for a couple years. Fun game, although I didn't love the timing requirements in the battle system. By the time I dropped off, most "guides" for the bosses revolved around using macros to consistently execute perfect attack strings.

What a journey through the super bosses this was, loved the series! Excellent video as always! I have to say, as someone who doesn’t particularly seek difficulty in a super boss, I like it when they seem impossible but then there is that one strategy that makes them easy to steamroll. It is somewhat satisfying to be able to curbstomp those nasty creatures. My favorite is Zodiark, it sent me to the Game Over screen way too many times. But after I came back with fully Holy element gear, it was subdued in less than one minute! Makes the game mechanics shine in my opinion. I wish more bosses were that way.

This whole series has been so well done and so satisfying. I won't lie, I was EXTREMELY tickled about so many FFXIV bosses being discussed, haha, but you did an absolutely fabulous job with every one of them. Thank you for so much hard work and such dedication to what could even be called a savage challenge!!
@Vitreia
@Vitreia Ай бұрын
This is super nitpicky but the Second Coil Savage in FFXIV was a little different than the way "savage" is used now. Raids nowadays are split into casual "normal" raids that can be done with random groups to enjoy the story and get lower level gear, and harder "savage" raids which require lots of practice, memorization, etc. and reward high level gear. Binding Coil, by contrast, had no "normal" raids -- to access the story required completing the hardcore raid tiers. Second Coil Savage was an even *more* intense escalation of what are now called "savage" raids (though nowhere near Ultimate). Even stranger, they provided no additional rewards other than achievements, and could be tackled in any order (and indeed, T7 Savage is generally thought of as the hardest, with T9/Nael being slightly below that). It was essentially a prototype for today's Ultimate raids. Doesn't really change anything in the video at all (other than the fact that the standard T9 Nael encounter also had a death wall) but I think it's interesting context!
@GarlyleWilds
@GarlyleWilds Ай бұрын
It's nitpicky but very important. It's also super interesting in its origins - Savage Coil was the *intended* design of second coil that the developers nerfed before formal release. When the devs mentioned that the super tough content had released in an 'easier' state, players called for the release of the unedited version, which is how Savage was born. It's a super important step in the evolution of 14's difficulty curve and it feels odd to just sorta be so... blase about it. All of the 14 stuff, as a vet, feels intensely... reductive, moreso than a lot of the others.
@TheVenhammer
@TheVenhammer Ай бұрын
@@GarlyleWilds To be fair FF Union doesn't play FF14 from my understanding and it can be difficult to keep track of all of the raids and modes it has due to the sheer volume of content if you're not immersed in the game and its raiding community. FF14 dedicated channels handle that sort of discussion fine, I think the way FFU handles it from an outsider looking in perspective is fine for the type of video he's going for, and its much better than his coverage of FF14 in the past.

Yeah there were a fair amount of mistakes and misordering on the introduction of things in the FFXIV sections (though other games likely suffer from these errors as well). One of the biggest things I feel was left out was the introduction of "savage only phases" with winged Brute Justice in A8S added in 3.2. A12S was impressive but it followed roughly the same phase pattern as A12 just with more complex mechanics. On the other hand A8S was the first to include a phase exclusive to Savage that would be come the norm for the final boss of raid sections through the Omega, Eden and Pandemonium raids.

To further go over what happened with Omega Protocol, the team that got worlds first had extra players watching everyones screens to help figure out mechanics. This is allowed, but the team was also using a zoom hack to more easily see mechanics. The team had some kind of agreement with one of the extra players to take them through the fight after they had a clear down, but they went back on it for whatever reason, and the extra player released a video of them cheating as revenge

Another notable super boss in Brave Exvius was Tel-Fulsanis. This boss was extremely challenging when it was introduced for several reasons. 1. It was a three stage boss that had to be beaten with one party so you had to prepare for all three phases. 2. You had to beat the first two phases in single battles before you could even challenge the full 3 phase fight. 3. The abilities that each phase used were random. If RNG wasn't on your side and any one of the phases used Killing Frenzy 2 to buff itself you basically lost because his damage would be too high for your tank to survive.

This series really shows just how Square has changed over the years (whether its for the better or not is for the individual to decide.). Part 1 included all mainline final fantasies, except for tactics. 1 spin off. Then we have part 5.... 23 entries in this video, and only 2 of them are from mainline games, without downloadable content.

I'm surprised that Pandæmonium (P10S) or even Athena the Tireless One (P12S) didn't made the cut on this last entry for some years to come but I'd guess that it's more of perception and those two fights being infamous difficulty spikes. I'd assume that we'll need to see what the next expansion will bring but probably won't be matching the dedication that you've put on telling us how these superbosses have been wiping the floor with everybody's parties

Odin and Behemoth was both there on release of FF14 A Realm Reborn as fate encounters. They had a 72h spawn timer. When Odin spawns, all the 5 differnt zones in the region Black Shroud will get a special weather effect to signal he have spawned, not totaly random place but several locations randomly in a time where flying was not implemented. Just like Behemoth (Behemoth have a fate that spawn first that must be cleard and that one you can see on the map. Odin wont show up on the map, only on the mini map and the Fate is called Steel Reign. He will also spawn at lvl56 (might ve higher) at the time the level cap was 50. He could wipe all the players in the encounter with his signature attack zantetsuken, this happens at 10-20%. There are some fun videos of it on KZfaq. If the Fate fails, the next time he spawn he will be 2 levels lower, to a minimum of either 50 or 52. But one of the coolest things with Odin is that the player that got the last hit that killed him will be the character model used when Odin spawns again + that players name will be under Odins name at the top of his head. And when there was like 3-400 people engaging him, its just a lottery hit 🙂 You where right about Odin having a mini raid or trials as they are called in FF14 in patch 2.5, but it was a 8man version of a 4man fight they made for fan fest 2014. It was also labeld hard mode but was actually a Extreme trial in difficulty, and a few people got mad that it was to hard etc. Think he got nerfed a bit, he had a pretty hard dps check that triggers at 10% hp, if you cant kill him before the zantetszuken cast end its a raid wipe and you start over again.

FF15 got the shaft too. Its actually the game with the most amount of superbosses within single player final fantasy. Theres like 10 in that game that are level 100 and if you could the optional challenges in the dlc theres more because those are actually harder than anything in the base game by alot. You can gameover really easy in some of the dlc scenarios

For FFRK, there are a lot of bosses, especially the newer ones introduced, that are a lot harder than the two chosen, though. Though I'm surprised that Gloom Primal Titan from FFXIV event featuring the debut of Alisaie wasn't included if you're only focusing event only bosses. You need strong wind dps because you NEED Wind DPS check especially because you are fighting him via the rules of the raid, that also includes phase 2 where you have to destroy the heart. Ultimate+ Primal Ifrit due to the Nail requirements. As for other content, especially from the JP vers, final bosses from Crystal, new magicites ( Eden, Crusader, Arc (Mecha vers.), Baha. Zero, etc.), Dragonking Bahamut ( especially XI DK), any Labyrinth boss, and Yojimbo from Spiraling Depths event can count as superbosses. Hope this is useful for part 6.
