I had a similar upbringing. single mom on a fixed income. it took me 3 years to convince her to get me one. We had a local chain of stores called Jamesway. there were two of them. one in the mall and one across town. The day I got my NES it was April '89 at the Jamesway in the mall. they were having a sale on it. meanwhile the Jamesway across town was burning down. i'll never forget that day. hooking it up to our ancient 1974 RCA TV. I hooked it up myself. bad connections, the picture was fuzzy, but it worked!

Nintendo has been around since the 1890's. They used to make hanafuda (Japanese flower) playing cards and their most popular set (drumroll) had Disney characters on them! The Famicom was kinda neat, the 2nd controller has a microphone and Zelda used it. There was a character in the game called "Pols Voice" who would be scared away if you yelled into the mic. So glad Adam you got an NES!!! Would've helped you get one had I known you needed one (I collect these on the side) but support your channel here in Tampa nonetheless. Enjoy your new vice, lol. I don't normally post comments but you're like that virtual buddy that DOES what we all WANT to do...live life, kudos brotha for living your dreams. So, I thouggt it was worth saying. Also, a quick shoutout to Angry Video Game Nerd (a.k.a.: AVGN) and Metal Jesus Rocks, 2 KZfaqrs whom both focus on NES reviews and nostalgic throwback from the 80s we all know and love, just though they might be worth checking out. Thanks for all you do, keep doing what you love, my man. Peace & God Bless :):):)

We couldn’t afford Nintendo when I was a kid; we had the Sears Atari system instead

Although about 8-10 years after it came out, my brother purchased one

Isn’t it amazing that all the old stuff still works after 30+ years??? “Don’t make em like they used to” nothing like Nintendo 👊🏻 can’t wait for Epic Universe!

My Atari VCS still works. My original NES stopped in a couple of years, but then I did play it a lot more.

He bought a refurbished unit, trust me that most of them break at some point.

My husbands PS4 had the “light of death” they call it and better off buying a new one. Just like TVs and cars fragile as heck

Omg. I needed this. I have never laughed so hard watching you play Super Mario bros . Your animation reminded me of when I was a kid playing this game. It was like I was watching myself play 35yrs ago. That was absolutely awesome Adam.

I remember playing Nintendo for hours and hours in the mid-1980s. Awesome memories of when life was so much simpler, a lot more fun, with no bills to pay just playing games for hours on end.

I have never (to this day) solved Super Mario Bro (46 year old shame), I will have to give that a go. Great episode man. You will need to invite your sister out to CA for sone nostalgic memories. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week. Take care.

If you haven’t already, your tv is stretching the image to fit the game, there may be a setting to change it to the original 4:3 aspect ratio. I also saw that Pixel’s has Archon, great classic game! It’s like chess but you actually battle to win your moves.

That weird rubber band stretchy then stretch back effect on your screen has to do with a setting on the TV. Can't remember exactly which. Might be worth getting an old CRT TV so you can play Duck Hunt, heck...just play them all on it!
@Tr0nzoid4 жыл бұрын
It has to do with the aspect ratio and can easily be changed.
@TVcasualty424 жыл бұрын
Should be a 4:3 setting in the menu. That stretch is horrible, I still can’t believe any tv ever used that method of filling a screen.

a CRT TV would also have a cleaner picture without the LCD upscaling/interpolation visual artifacts _and_ not have the 1-2 frames of input lag that LCD tvs have, CRT is 100% superior way to play these old consoles but i guess if Adam just wants to blow off steam and relive some gaming memories the LCD tv is "good enough"

Great video Adam, would love to see more like this! It would be cool to see separate videos highlighting each game and talking about their history as your collection grows 👾🕹🎮📺👍

I still have my old NES sitting on the shelf. Haven't played it in years though. Now you just need to buy a Playstation 5 so you can see how much video games have advanced since the NES days. They've certainly come a long way.
