Finally! Engine Drop in the V10 TDI Touareg - High Mileage Engine Removal

Today we finally set aside some time to remove the V10 Twin Turbo Diesel out of my high mileage Touareg. See what oily mess it is after 230k miles. We pulled it to delete, tune, and make some repairs. This was much less of a undertaking than most people have made it out to be.

Same thing, dropping the engine on the v10 Touareg isn't the end of the world. Heck i even did it outside in my driveway without a lift.

thanks guys for confirming that it was 4 hours labour and also that you downed it onto jack stands. I am about to buy a V10 from 2004 with 220k km and am reading all kinds of horror stories but usually its stories from non mechanical people taking them to stealerships.

Love the video man. I have an 06 v10 in nz I plan to drop the engine out this year some time to delete egr etc and some maintenance. I've found the car as a whole much more easier to work on then what you read on the internet like you say. I love driving it and enjoy owning it also.

It is a very fun thing to own, I don't have to rely on mine so it takes a lot of the stress out of it. But they drive like nothing else. Hope you enjoy yours, thanks for watching!

While I agree it's not much different from any other car, I believe what people say about these is mainly that you can't do major engine work at home without a lift. I'd be inclined to agree with that too, I don't see how you would be getting this sucker out with a cherry picker, which is at least possible if not easy for most other cars. Other than that, happy new year and I look forward to seeing where you go with this project! I love these touaregs!

It would be an undertaking doing it without a hoist. But you would just have to remove the bumper, coolers and radiator support and pick it with an engine hoist and slide it out the front. Thanks for watching!

@@LostCauseRanch Ah, the classic "assume the service position". I was unsure if the touaregs also have this or not. I did it for an Audi a4 once to replace a timing belt, getting the front back together was almost harder that removing the engine itself would have been!

Yep the old Audi/vw fun, after you do one of the a4s or the like they are pretty quick to get in service position. The Touareg isn't quite as smooth easy as the a4 but still doable.

I’m in Houston and have an 08 Treg V10 with 50k on the engine. It has starting problems and my guess is that it’s a starter solenoid issue. Starter solenoid is an engine out job.How would you like to drop the engine, replace the starter, replace the alternator and anything else that looks dodgy?? It’s been with the VW dealer for the past 10 weeks and they are still scratching their heads.

They are neat. Can be heavy in maintenance cost and the newest one is 12 years old. But nothing else on the road like it.

How long did it take to pull the motor in real time ?

I don’t remember exactly off the top of my head. But it was done in a couple days in between working in customer stuff. Realistically probably 4-5 hours of actual time.
