This has to be one of my most favorite builds. Partially because of the build and mostly because of your excessive amount of detail and honesty. You are a true craftswoman.

I built custom exhaust for the better part of 20 years. Whoever built that set of headers for Sarah is an absolute artist. That is premium work at its best. They should be damn proud of themselves.

This, this is why we need shop classes in high schools, so kids can learn problem solving, design creativity, basic understanding of what they’re even driving around in and how things function! What am doing, what do I want it to do, how am I going to make it functional… then come up with the plan, build it, found the issue you didn’t know about, redesign and make it better. It’s not a failure, it’s learning.

As soon as you laid those old harnesses on the engine my anxiety meter blew right through the redline. 😱 I have enormous respect for anyone who is not intimidated by that part of the project. Enjoy these projects while you can. My friends and I are all too old and feeble to crawl around and under vehicles now. We might be able to get on the ground and under it but getting back off the ground is the problem! The days of working 8-12 hours at our jobs then crawl around inside the engine bay of the 1980 dodge 024 with the vw drive train are long gone. My 2 brothers and I would argue about who gets to drive the all manual clunker with no a/c, no radio. Mom thought we must have been on drugs to want to drive that instead of anything else available. It was ours, we built it from parts of 3 cars and it passed safety and emissions inspections. So it was blue, gray, yellow, and primer. Matching paint doesn't make it run better! It was a true peasant car and we loved it.

I'm glad you're building your own harness. I was practically yelling at the screen when you kept talking about cobbling together old harnesses. Like, you're BRILLIANT with wiring, you have the skill to do it right, you might as well do it right.

Having done auto wiring for decades. It's a blast watching someone do it. 😂

I don't know about anyone else but I'm sooo looking forward to hearing that engine start up for the first time. Kudos to you for ducking the electrical gremlin potential with those old janky harnesses and jumping to a new one. The time you save is worth the money it cost (but maybe not what a video troubleshooting may get you), especially for the mental anguish bypassed!

Sarah is absolutely fearless. No, there are not an infinite number of wires in that harness. No there are not an infinite number of devices being connected. No there probably aren't any extra wires or devices involved, so everything should connect to everything. Knowing all of the devices and all of the wires connecting them is what makes the impossible possible. Sarah knows this. That's why this is her favorite part of the project. And why it would be neither your nor my favorite part. But like I said, Sarah is fearless. Absolutely!

There are left hand drill bits, they might be handy for drilling out broken bolts/studs. And I can't believe you don't have an air compressor! You MUST get one!

Second only to your attention to detail, is how impressive it is that you do so much of this stuff on your own.

The Celica is looking so great! All your painstaking work is paying off. You make it so fun to watch you perform your craft. Buy Cobalt Left-Hand Drill Bit for removing bolts. So many times the drill will grab and the bolt will come spinning out. It's a source of never ending joy!

Maybe bulkhead connectors and simplify/customize for the car? Wiring harness is too important not take the time to make clean and protected. -Premonition is the word. Forshadowing. Forseeing.

Facts on the steering. I owned two Celicas in this vintage and a total of 5. None had steering issues. On dirt roads these things were dreamy little drifters.

Commence the spaghettifigation of the engine. Sarah-n-Pasta .

if you're using an old factory harness, the best way to do it is to de-pin every connector on the engine side, mount the ECM and route all the wires. use new connectors and re-terminate the ends (the old ones will be brittle and break anyway), trim as needed to make a nice fit, then loom & wrap. there's no "cheap way" to do wiring, but if you have it already and you're using the stock ECM, saves a couple bucks re-using. :shrug: all you'll need on the power side is the 12v connections to fuses & relays. i like using a 6 circuit relay box that's separate from the vehicle fuse box. keeps it easier to troubleshoot later. 👍

Reverse drill bits are awesome as well. Sometimes they will grab enough to loosen or remove broken bolts in a blind hole. Great job!

12.16. Be healthy Sarah. Your sneezes are unusuall but sexy. When you need to sneeze just breathe normaly inhale deep and you will have loud satisfying sneeze. It is important to sneeze with full force because there is a lot of dust, all those chemical compaunds evaporating going in your nose so learn and practise how to sneeze strongly.
