I love seeing the dynamic with Jacques shifting with time and as his own channel grows. He does such a good job of providing a support role on Kevin's channel vs gaining confidence as the leader on his own. It takes a special set of skills to know when to lead and when to follow, and you guys are setting a great example. Not to be overly sappy, but the evolution of the Epic Friendship has been a surprisingly touching thing to watch!

"Rufio! Rufio!" As for turnips, grow them and give them to any hunters you might know because deer absolutely love them! You can also shred them and treat them like you would cabbage for sauerkraut. It's makes a killer burger and braut topping for something a little different than your average slaw

Not sure why, but animal colors are named kinda weird. It goes something like this: Lavender/Lilac is a light warm gray (diluted brown/chocolate), Blue is a dark gray (diluted black), Cream is pale warm beige (diluted orange). So, your lavender hen is gray! BTW she's a beautiful gray! And Rufio was the leader of the Lost Boys, right? :)

Our weather this year has been crazy, so far. I planted tomato seeds that failed to sprout. The weather had gone cold again, so I just figured that was the cause and decided to plant again (changing the potting soil I used this time, just as a back up,) just in case the first lot failed to sprout entirely. Second lot showed no results despite planting on a day that gave me sunburn. But wouldn’t you know, the cold weather came back again! By this point, I’ve got no plants from my first planting, one from my second planting and I have planted a third lot. Thankfully, I noticed today that I have three coming up so far! In between looking after various family members who have been battling illness, I’m quite exhausted, but hoping I get my veggies out soon! The rest of my direct seeding is already done and all my other veg is nearly ready to be transplanted. I am never this late getting things out and in the ground, but sometimes you just have to roll with the punches!

Such beautiful calendula! If you’re ever interested in preserving your calendula flowers they can be dried and used in tea (apparently it is anti microbial?) and in salve for dry skin. I’m trying it out for the first time this year but it has been hard to dry them out with the rain we have been having here in Aus.

Ooo, that’s a lotta tomatoes! I got 4 tomato transplants (3 varieties) into grow-bags yesterday. Will get the yummy SunGolds into flower pots tomorrow. My chickies are 5-8 weeks old and STILL terrified of earthworms, lol! I am delighted to discover they like grape leaves (I have muscadine grapevines growing everywhere….oh). Another great video, thank you! 🐓🐓🐓. Cabbage…maybe I should grow cabbage for chickies? BTW, experimenting with cover crops this year……buckwheat and kale planted yesterday, with more buckwheat as well as millet and sunflowers going in the ground soon. Planting heavily to deter these dang weeds. Wonder if my garlic needs to be harvested?

I went with the string and trim method again this year. Blue cream berries, peach and white wonder tomatoes were my favorites last year. I pounded 5 ft of rebar into the ground and put 10 ft metal conduit over it to make the frames from string trellising. Hopefully 10 ft up is tall enough. I can’t wait for the over abundance 🙌🏻

Jacque's comments about the Australian work on the dwarf tomato project are incorrect. The reason why Australia has also developed many dwarf varieties is because our new biosecurity laws (introduced some time in the mid 2010's from memory) effectively made it impossible to import seeds from overseas. This is why there are many dwarf and heirloom varieties available in the US/EU that cannot be found here. Patrina Nuske-Small is responsible for breeding many of these varieties. I think you can send seeds from here to the US just fine though, which is why you have many of the varieties developed here.

My tomato plants are already 5 - 6 feet tall, but I am in Arizona so got a head start. It will be interesting to see how long they last in the heat. I am having great luck with peppers. I also already have baby watermelons. It is my first year growing those. It is also my first time growing dragon fruit. I will have to look t some of your old videos about that. But they have their true leaves now, so I'm hoping a container transplant will do them some good. I need to print up more seed trays. The 2 capsicum seedling survivors are also getting planted this weekend. I've had a purple tomato a couple of years ago that was meh, not sure if it was the same variety as yours.
