FINALLY! Ron Capps WINS FIRST NHRA Funny Car Championship

After years of trying and several heartbreaking near-misses, the veteran Funny Car finally got the proverbial monkey off his back, officially locking up his long-awaited first championship when he qualified for the season-closing Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona.
“I’ve been waiting a long time to hear those words,” said Capps, after being called champion by NHRA President Peter Clifford. “I can’t even tell you, man. I’ve been trying to do this for so long, and I almost gave up on that fact and said, ‘I’m just going to keep trying to win races,’ but this is for the fans. My fans and my team’s fans are the best fans in the world. To be Mello Yello champion and they can’t take that away from my name anymore, that’s amazing.

for reals , he parks next door to my sisters house every year for the Pacific Raceway Nationals in Kent Wa, AKA Seattle lol , and he is a stand up guy !

Alright!!!!!!Standing watching the funny car finals,the announcers said,with that medallion on,he looked like Flavor Flav!!!!!LMAO!!!!!!Seriously,we love you,Ron.Excellent finals in all classes.

Good job Cappy- I am so happy for you, finally -you are the best. I wish they could of had this live on - the NHRA & Fox coverage really screwed up. Notice the empty stands on Friday qualifying ?

this was clearly handed to capps they de tuned hagans car. how come no one says anything when dsr does it ? but everyone wants to talk about force? this was so obviously handed to capps

i think that drag racing is a dying Motorsport and that's why i think that John forces daughters don't seem to have any desire to want to try to pick up wherever he leaves off see, did ya notice how there was only a few people clapping for Ron Capps? that tells you that funny car racing is a dying sport and that's really sad, because a funny car is the "bad ass" thing that was ever created
