Good idea but how do you keep the government from gradually chipping away at the money coming in from the tax? How much more will it cost the government to track consumption, evaluate the appropriate distribution and send out the payments (Which will be a good excuse for governments to reduce the payouts)? Lastly, what about the tax that the petrol company, the transportation company, the station owner all pay for their own emissions that they will pass on to the final consumer?

You won't. He did say that the money will not be going directly into the government's pot. That was a clever piece of double-speak which means the work will go to private contracts. (Much like the Bush Administration out-sourced the running of the "War on Terror" to Halliburton and Blackwater. And very quietly done at that.) Private companies exist for profit and when it comes to finance, not terribly transparent and they are very wise when it comes to hanging on to the last penny.

The carbon tax is and will be a hinder to economic growth. A country that competes on a world stage loses any edge it might have. Any notion the government will send you money is a dream. The cost of any product like food is already moving rapidly upward. Countries that buy from us will just get the raw product and process it themselves.

Get rid of income taxes and goods and services taxes. They are taxing having a job and stagnating the economy. The wealthiest aren't paying their fair share (if any) anyway. Replace the loss of tax revenue with price per ton on Carbon emissions right at the biggest sources. If you make some small changes or investments in your life you'll save money easier. Does not work the way you are thinking.Big energy users are demanding subsidies for power increases due to green energy programs in developed countries and getting those subsidies. If they don't get subsidies they will leave a high cost energy country and relocate to a lower cost energy ,lower restrictive environmental law and cheaper labour force country. The UN is pushing for a universal 15% tax rate because it is in the developed countries interests .It make it more difficult for companies to leave. Then they will increase that tax rate to 20% and more. But if less developed countries don't play ball and say okay we will have a 5% or 10% tax rate that may be enough for those high energy users to leave.

In Australia when we implemented the carbon tax we reduced taxes for the poorest substantially. This didn't prevent them from buying the right-wing's argument that climate action was costing living standards. Sure enough, the right came back into power, repealed the carbon tax and have overseen six years of climate vandalism. We must dispense with the idea of a carbon tax altogether; it's framing of living standards vs climate action cannot be shaken away even by rebates. We must adopt the approach of a Green New Deal that taxes the wealthy to fund clime action. More importantly, only the government, not market mechanisms, can provide the rapid change we need.

Once the ball gets rolling and EV’s become more mainstream, affordable, etc., people will naturally phase out their gas vehicles for EVs. Reaction to video ATTV, how can imposing a tax on carbon reduce carbon emissions? ATTV, why would low-income groups (poor people) be disproportionately impacted by a carbon tax? What would the difference in impact of a carbon tax be on high-income urban residents and low-income rural residents? (Urbans ➡️ can take public transpo, rurals ➡️ can't take public transpo, unable to afford fuel efficient cars) ATT suggestion made in the video, would the carbon tax revenue be kept by the government? (No) ATTV, how can the imposition of a carbon tax be designed such that low-income groups won't be affected as much? What would happen to it? (Returned to the people to alleviate the regressive effects. Rurals will receive a check that's worth more than the carbon tax they've paid) Do you think this could work in your country? Why or why not? What other measures can the govt take to help low-income rural residents who have no option for public transpo, yet can't afford more environmentally friendly cars?

Pie-in-the sky idea 💡. Currency must be exchanged for labor/value and time. This is the bedrock of how ever economy functions. Giving the poor or less fortunate a currency for alternative energy is a pie-in-the-sky idea. Here’s a better one Cut taxes for all. Cut taxes for investors looking to purchase and update properties to be more energy efficient. Cut taxes for businesses that use less carbon energy. Cut for the middle class that invest in updating their homes and vehicles to more energy efficient vehicles. Incentivize builders and contractors who build low income energy efficient homes. If we just give the middle class and poor stimulus check for no exchange in services; we run into inflation, crime goes up; and the divide between the rich and the poor increases.

Carbon taxes do nothing to reduce GHG emissions. In fact in most countries that have a carbon tax GHG emissions have increased not decreased. The reason for carbon taxes is the second word "tax". Carbon taxes are a sneaky way to introduce a new tax. Carbon taxes are an inflationary tax as it will increase the price of literally everything you need to buy. Companies will pass along their increased costs to consumers ,they always do.Governments will rake in money as they will collect more GST taxes on inflated goods and services. Yes some money is given back but much of it is kept by governments and they have no intention of rebating the GST portion of the tax to consumers. This is the big scam by governments that impose carbon "taxes".Carbon taxes start low but constantly increase .The GDP of those countries will drop ,jobs will be lost and the people will be poorer. Many countries like the US,China,India will prosper as they will not impose carbon taxes. If people are smart they will vote out government parties that impose or want to impose carbon taxes.

Carbon taxes and other solutions to control carbon emissions are just ways to play around with the problem. The root problem is global population growth. Europe will find it harder to reduce carbon emission, even if they pay taxes and become more efficient, increasing populations will result in more emissions. And what do rural dwellers do? Driving cars is not so much a luxury for them as a necessity, which is not the case for city dwellers, who can use public transport more. Reduce the global population and a lot of our planet's problems will reduce or go away altogether. Carbon taxes simply provide more loot for wasteful socialist politicians to waste on their voters. People who pay little or no taxes at all are usually socialist voters. People who work, invest, and pay the most taxes usually protect their wealth by voting for common sense parties.

@@theo.k.corral6895 I don't understand your comment. Usually, even if the writer is illiterate, there is a clue in there to guide the reader in determining what the writer is trying to say, but not this time. A blast furnace is not the only way to encourage a lower global population. The ways this could be achieved are too numerous to even begin to discuss here, and the result doesn't have to be instant, just underway.. Our tired old planet can only sustain so many of any species and we are already crowding out our wildlife and ocean life. Will we eventually be reduced to eating bugs, and if so, how long will that stop gap measure last? Perhaps we will discover a new planet and can start all over again, but how will we get the people there and, if we don't change our ways, how long will that planet sustain us? Etc............. Say something useful and I will read it. Otherwise,...............!!

No, I think the fee will be per ton of CO2 for everyone. For many bills the dividend will be the same for everyone, but if you use less FF, then you will also pay less and your net will be higher.

Step one. Company taxed for carbon. Step two. Company raises power prices Step three. People compensated for increasing power prices. Step four. the money taxed ends up back in the power company’s hands. So in the end the carbon tax was for nothing and money gets pushed around with a few lazy people taking some of the top. Haha haha 😂 😂 try again mate. Carbon tax is good but yes it will effect the poor

The carbon check would immediately be spent on consumption of imported goods, further worsening the trade balance and eventually, the environment as it would be thrown away 6 months after purchase. This is not a good idea.

He used that family as an example of someone who will feel the pressure of he changes the most, the video also explained that the current incentive in mind will actually pay lower income families a cheque per month, in order to avoid certain scenarios such as the ""Yellow Vest" activists in France. This is similar to those who are receiving Universal Credit (UK) where if you earn over a certain amount per annum or have a certain amount in your bank account you are then ineligible to claim the benefits. C'mon man, at least understand the video before commenting.

@@juliancoulden1753 His opening statement was about the correlation between what scientists have been saying for years and the almost unbearable heat we have been experiencing, for example the hottest day on recorded history was this July 2019 and the second hottest day was in 2015. I understand what you're saying, however is it so egregious to use a "typical low income family in France" as an example of someone who would receive the benefits of this incentive?

And why are they pushing for carbon taxes when most things are made up of carbon.. Yes, even trees! Are trees made of carbon? "The chemical composition of trees varies from species to species but is approximately 50 percent carbon by dry weight. Other elements in trees include oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and smaller amounts of calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, iron, and manganese." Forest Carbon FAQs www.fs.usda.gov › default › files
