Finch were a very hard working band. They tried very hard to break the mainstream. They got the gig supporting STATUS QUO in the Winter of 1978. They changed their name to Contraband and quickly vanished from the music scene after an attempt on the American market. Well done for trying fellas.

Unlike Barnsy this guy can really ,sing ! Such a rare voice ,never got what he deserved ,he did Zeplin songs like no one could
@braddo2
@braddo2 2 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey, I've a friend that concurs--adamantly--with you, inasmuch as 'Barnesy can't sing'. Frankly, I think this is an indefensible trope. It's one thing to say you don't like his voice, but quite another to deny the breadth of his capabilities, even if they aren't always in evidence. A dislike of Barnesy's sometimes shrill rasp is likely to rule out some of the greatest blues, soul & rock singers of all time, surely: from Percy Sledge, to Tina Turner, to Joe Cocker; et al. But we can agree that Owen Orford was (&, for all I know, still is) a gifted & skilful rock singer. And I well remember seeing Finch, back in the day, at Ryde Youth Centre; a venue where you could really get up-close-&-personal with the performers, who also included a relatively nascent AC/DC, walking up through there audience of, maybe, fifty people. And you're right, too, that Finch never really cracked it as big as they deserved. Mind you, much as I love the music, some of the lyrics on the band's album, Thunderbird, were pretty laughable. I seem to remember something from the ballad, Mushroom: 'a raindrop trickles down your furry face'. Maybe a few magic(al) mushrooms were involved in its composition ; )

@@jeffreyhofma1943 Stars massively underrated. Barnsey found his niche in later years with gritty blues tracks.His screaming through the 90's hurt my ears I forgot about Finch until a mate reminded me, hence why I am here.

Ahh great Aussie rock, saw finch play many times in the 70,s, I’m 59 now but when I was about 16-17 , Pete McFarlane took the time at a gig one night to talk about his drum kit with me and I never forgot it, he was a brilliant and as a young drummer I was really grateful, thanks Pete 👍

Played at our senior end-of-school dance in 1976. Music was great back then. Finch were truly a top band. I try to find all the music I can from back then on CD and, failing that, LP. Had to leave my record collections back home when I moved overseas. Cheers to you all and the good old days!

Nice little waltz - kinda prescient to those 80's 90's heavy bands like Mr Big - that would dabble heavily in ballads. Bob Spencer on Explorer and interesting for me - because I own one of em - the other guitarist playing a Gretsch Duo Double Cutaway sans tremolo - just like the one that Malcolm Young played for so many years - removing the red paint and the middle pick up (custom job) and front pick up - Nice guitars - super flat - smooth necks - chambered - so yea - they gonna sound nice with 100 watt Marshal Plexis or JCM 800's

The guitarist playing Rhythm Guitar in this video is using a GUILD M80 not a Gretsch. At 3:25 you can clearly see the Guild tower logo on the guitar's headstock and the familiar Guild headstock shape. It also has LP style Block fret markers. Gretsch never used Block fret markers of that style. The Guild was also a solid body. Very different to the chambered Gretsch Duos. Little hard to tell from the video but the hardware on the guitar looks to be chrome which would make the guitar a 1975 or 1976 Guild M80-CS.
