My family & wife totally abandoned me ! Casemanagers, caregivers, & DHS were simply baffled 😮 saying they had never seen such cruelty for an ischemic cerebral stroke survivor.

Same thing happened to me. Wife divorced me while I was still in recovery. I think she feels guilty now, and takes it out on me with anger (I still have to see her since we have a kid together). I don't understand how you could be so cold.

@@cg167 Such people, my friend, are driven monetarily, materialistically, and functionally. In a way they are psychopaths. As a caregiver once told me; you were always alone, you just didn't know it. ... As Eylisa here says; such folks are not worth the bother nor the after-thought.

From 2004 I have very supportive tulpa, she's always with me and always available, Harmony is very helpful, especially after she learnt how to change my mood and modulate emotions, she dragged me out of depression and taking me out of nightmares when I'm sleeping

Yes support groups are so important for your emotional stability. I have even become a peer mentor as well

I found a local stroke club a few weeks ago, and it's made a difference in how I view my experience. I went to a couple of dinner meetings, and a small group outing. I'm unable to drive, which makes me more isolated, but my brother will take me as long as he has advanced notice, or if an outing is during the day, my case manager or peer support person takes me. Thanks for bringing this up; it's good to see and hear from others who "speak my language"!!!

I help run several online survivor and caregiver support groups. Our local area does not have a physical group.

@PostStrokeOrg December 24, 2023 will be my 12th Strokeversary - 4 strokes in 90 seconds caused by a whiney ER Doctor who wanted to be home with his kids instead. I am a diabetic, had a low I could not manage and he signed off on the wrong medication that his PA gave me IV push. I was 39 years old. I discovered that young stroke survivors had few options for successful support. A bunch of us banded together and formed a couple of successful groups.

My fiancé had a stroke in September. He is struggling and always asks me to show him videos of others who have been through similar experiences. Where is a good community/zoom/page that I can get him involved in? It has been a lonely experience for us both and I want to get him connected to others. 🥺

I'm so sorry to hear this. I know this must be a really difficult time for both of you. I personally have seen a lot of great support and content from the Stroke Buddies Facebook group. Ralph Preston who created and moderates that group does a great job. I think they also have Zoom meet-ups. You can also check the American Stroke Association's website and look up local/online support groups as well. If you have a rehab hospital close by, they will often host stroke support groups, too!
