The fate of Hitler is one of the most infamous subjects in history - but the investigation of the nation that was best placed to find out, the USSR, is often ignored or dismissed in the West. This series examines what the Soviets found, both at the bunker and Reich Chancellery, and also the medical examination of the purported bodies of Hitler and Eva Braun. Kept secret until 1968, the Soviet files reveal many strange anomalies that challenge the established story of the ultimate fates of Hitler and his wife.
In this episode, the Soviets return to Hitler's bunker and attempt to conduct a forensic investigation of the 'crime scene' to find the truth.
Dr. Mark Felton FRHistS, FRSA, is a well-known British historian, the author of 22 non-fiction books, including bestsellers 'Zero Night' and 'Castle of the Eagles', both currently being developed into movies in Hollywood. In addition to writing, Mark also appears regularly in television documentaries around the world, including on The History Channel, Netflix, National Geographic, Quest, American Heroes Channel and RMC Decouverte. His books have formed the background to several TV and radio documentaries. More information about Mark can be found at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Fe...

I'm reminded of the story of a man being interviewed by the city council for the position of City Manager. One councilman begins by asking "What is two plus two?" The man being interviewed rises from his chair, walks over to the window to peek outside, then closes the blinds and pulls the curtain closed. Next, he goes to the door to peek into the hallway, then closes and locks the door. After dimming the lights, he returns to the chair then leans toward the city councilman and whispers "How much do you want it to be?"

Hitler had a utterly morbid fear of his dead body being treated the same way as was Mussolini’s. Mussolini’s body was hanged upside down in a public place for people to view, insult, desecrate. I would think Hitler and his henchmen would have carefully planned to have his remains destroyed or perhaps cremated at a secret crematorium and the remains taken to a concealed location to avoid Mussolini’s fate. Perhaps Eva Braun’s were, as well. It sounds unlikely and perhaps impossible in war-torn Berlin, but necessity is often the mother of invention.

It was my dad's theory that they killed themselves as reported, but were buried elsewhere, as the Nazis would never allow the bodies to fall into the hands of the Soviets. Of course, we will never know.

Maybe, but doubtful .. at that moment there weren't many ways to transport two corpses through enemy positions and intense fighting to somewhere else .. too risky and time consuming .. if of course they didn't escape alive.

@RedXlV 9 ай бұрын
@@greybeard5774 "Buried elsewhere" doesn't necessarily need to be all that far away from the bunker. Just somewhere better-hidden than where the decoy bodies were found. With said decoy bodies' purpose being to simply get the Soviets to stop looking. Once you've already found what you're looking for, the search ends.
@DMS-pq8

But considering how many people in the bunker were captured and I assume tortured by the NKVD you would at least one of them would have cracked and told the Soviets where the bodies really were
@scottwillie6389
@scottwillie6389 9 ай бұрын
Not if the soldiers who buried the body took their own lives after doing the job. In that instance, it wouldn't have been "risky" at all. Or they could have attempted a break out immediately after burying them and perished in the fighting. In either scenario, those back in the bunker who didn't go on burial mission would have no useful information to provide the Soviets other than the alleged burial site wasn't where they were buried.

Since Hitler was provided with cyanide, it is clear that at least some in the upper echelon (probably including Hitler himself) were not so delusional to believe they were going to win or escape. Thus the need to keep cyanide on hand in that event. It is not a stretch whatsoever to conclude that they had also made preparations in advance to inter Hitler and Eva in some way that would be appropriate and fitting.

Just using what you have presented in this series, and a bit of Occam's razor, I would say the probable story would be that it was their bodies and Eva and Adolph were in the bunker garden on a walk and got hit by artillery shrapnel. They were rushed in to the bunker but Eva's wounds were likely more severe than Adolph's. Eva was left on the floor while they tried to treat Adolph on the couch, and then the bed, before he ultimately passed. They crushed cyanide capsules in both mouths, to ensure both were dead, and then deposited them in the shell crater and tried to burn them along with the rug Eva died on. The story that they killed themselves was concocted by the remaining occupants to preserve the Fuehrers legacy, and to deny Soviet satisfaction as to having killed him, and the remaining bunker occupants with the desire to do so attempted to break out and escape now that the boss was dead. It is easy to assume the dentist and assistant misremembered details about the who what where and when of bridges and dental records especially under interrogation. Memory is a fickle thing at the best of times and under interrogation it is easy to coerce a subject in to saying what you want to hear; even subconsciously. Many of the inconsistencies of the bodies can also be chalked up to poor handling. The bodies weren't exhumed and moved by forensic experts but rather average joes. It isn't difficult to damage a corpse; especially one that hasn't been professionally preserved and has just been sitting around in a damp hole after being burned. To the skull fragment it is equally likely it was a chance find in the garden that the NKVD latched on to in order to save face or a plant for more or less the same political reason. For the former Eva and Adolph certainly weren't the only ones to find their final resting place in that garden. For the latter it would be well within the pattern of behavior in the USSR. The "truth" matters less than "pravda". It can also be said that the fact so many of the interrogated bunker occupants aligned so well on Hitler's death that the "shot himself" story is likely false and a rehearsed cover story. Going back to the fact memory is a fickle thing - when you are taking witness testimony you expect minor variances and discrepancies in the story and you find the truth in the consistencies and overlaps. If everyone tells you the exact same thing you are most often being told a story to avoid the truth. All of this, combined with the zeitgeist of the Reich, leads me to believe that Eva and Adolph did die in Berlin, on more or less the date provided, and were given a partial cremation and burial in the garden, but that their final moments weren't as clean, heroic, or romantic as mutual suicide with the enemy at the gate.

Nonsense- do you believe Hitler and Eva would go out for a leisurely stroll during an artillery barrage when the Soviets were preparing to storm the Chancellery? They committed suicide, the bodies were cremated and buried in a secret place. The Germans planted the other bodies, and the Soviets botched up everything from that point on.

His first residence in Patagonia was the INALCO complex and the second was La Estancia San Ramón in Bariloche, Argentina . The Estancia San Ramón had its own airport and also a railway that ran through Patagonia from Bariloche to Bahía Blanca (Atlantic Ocean, today this railway still works and is called the "Patagonian Railway".
