I kicked butt over the weekend, I shifted my weight (being right-handed) on the way back I would say to myself “right” and on the way back I would say “left” and my shift was on the money. Then I hinged my right hand facing more towards the ground, hitting straight with power. Knocked off 6 strokes and now I look forward to more trying to groove the two maneuvers, thank you so much.

We definitely see tour pros using power moves off the the tee with a driver, and then dial it back on approach shots.

I believe that you have answered my question asked in the "Improve Your Irons Instantly With This Move". Great review of the Power vs. Accuracy golf swing. I played a awful lot of Baseball as a child and young adult. I was a power hitter and could easily hit the ball to either side into the gap, or over the fences more than a few times. I was also a switch hitter and was equally well versed at tennis and racket ball. So you can imagine way I hold the club in a solid, strong right handed grip. And would naturally develop a beautiful hook, which quite frankly is a home run that just clears the fence heading out of bounds. Unfortunately, prior golf swing lessons always focused on weakening my grip, eliminating my drive and roll. They actually not only encouraged, but created drills that I would practice for hours, that simply taught slide, early extend, flip, and roll the club face to generate power and a picture perfect golf swing. Thank God, finally you are preaching, drive and hold. A Baseball swing front leg plant, drive the hips and crush the ball. No slide. No flip. No roll. No casting. Yes casting, over the top and swinging across the swing plane outside to in, as a treatment and cure for a hook. Probably because of Baseball I never had a problem slicing the ball. Likewise even when I could not break 100 I could block the ball down the fairway farther than most of my playing companions. After all these lessons. After hours of slow motion drills. When ever I was turning up the speed, and trying to swing the club freely, It was impossible to hit the target. These old flip and roll techniques always lacked any power or accuracy. And worse of all without hours and hours of practice, no one could ever maintain any solid progress with a timing based swing approach. How can you swing a golf club 100 mph, rotate the club face 20 mph and ever expect to hit any fairway or Green. Even the resort style, pleasure courses I routinely play. But right here in 12 minutes and 4 seconds you took all the mystery out of the golf swing. Cleared the air. Should several options, beginning to end, different body positions, expected results and Personal preferences and limitations. One Video. Complete golf swing. View it. Pause. Practice. Repeat. Now go have fun playing golf. Practice chipping and putting. Become a Scratch golfer from 6000 yards, which is the distance most amateurs compete. And enjoy the company of your best friends. Simple. Easy. No smoke and mirrors. No secret moves. No gimmicks. If you happen to have a back, hip, knee or shoulder injury and need to limit your swing. By all means, go right ahead and get it done. Just look at Tiger, he's one giant bandaid and enjoying some of the best swings of his entire career. We can not Express our gratitude in words. Seriously. Thank you.

Enjoy your tutorials as always. Took your weight shift suggestion to heart, whenever I feel like I get good pressure in my right heel during backswing I find that I strike the ball well. However, I find my distance lacking. With the PXG Gen 1 P series 7 iron I’m only able to get a max distance of 150 with a range ball. I watched your PXG review and you were ripping it 170+...how

First time Ive seen this explanation of concept. Makes good sense. Have just recently just started practising the power swing using body. Couldn't never do prior until I worked out posture , swingplane angle and full hinging of hand is all vital otherwise releasing to soon if these not done and get massive slice results.

I recently bought one of those liveview cameras (I have no connection to the company). I immediately determined how "under the plane" I was on the downswing. For days I tried to get my downswing on plane using my upper body - nothing worked. I then left my upper body to react to what the lower body was doing. That's what took me to your channel - all the stuff on hips and load. Eureka - if you get the lower body moves right, your club falls on the shaft or elbow plane line without manipulating your arms. If you have a video on this topic - please let me know.

Russell being following u this while & love the instruction, simple & easy but in the irons i have grest diffuculty in hip rotation to transfer the weight from right to left. Had a hip op. 2 years ago & flexibility is poor enough. Right hip is not great either, in your opinion, would it be a reason for lack of rotation in the down swing? I always seem to get somewhat stuck on my right side . With the driver it seems a little easier...... i dunno, watching the videos it looks so easy, im an 8 handicapper & struggling with this. Thanking you for your time Mark

I think you might need too send Russell your swing as defining old is relative - guy who is 20yoa will think a 50yoa guy is old - a 75yoa guy will think 50yoa guy as young ~ I am 50yoa I have asked older guys on single fig h.caps how do they keep golf good. It generally comes down to getting wiser with shots ie sharpen short game no power needed - take up pilates or similar for mobility - and try to keep relative fitness for less mental flagging in a round ( play more often !) happy golfing 2019 .

on the elbow video. Does the right elbow drop straight down outside the right ankle on the downswing. I hit balls at the range and I got more accuracy with a nice long boring draw. I pushed 5-10 balls out of 100. I seemed to hit better when my left shoulder raised to give my arms room to move under on more shallowed plane. My question is where does my right elbow drop in theory on the downswing. Your videos rock

When struggling with fat shots is starting the swing with more weight distribution on lead leg a good way to combat this then shift more centered instead of fully shifting into the right heel. I'm struggling with this even with short chip shots around the green.

Hi Russell Is a power move related to a draw then and an accuracy move related therefore to a fade movement(as you show in your draw verses fade video) or is it the release of the hands that is the major differance to shaping shots and you choose a draw or fade with or without a separation move depending on what you want (distance or accuracy)? This Michael
@russellheritagegolf
@russellheritagegolf 5 жыл бұрын
I think to fade well you may need more rotation which is why professionals find it more desirable as less hands involved. But a draw has some benefits too.

Ultra simplistic --- take it back, swing it through. He and his father Angel, were students of Ernest Jones -- fascinating approach worth looking at. I find his approach difficult -- I guess I've been doing it for 40 years a certain way, and it's hard to change. But I see how his methods would be good for someone just starting out. @@russellheritagegolf

Hey Russell Really like your instructions. I recently came across video instruction called Channel Lock( 1atomic golf) that is complete different golf swing. Would you be willing to research and try it and then give your opinion? Pros and cons. Thanks in advance.
@russellheritagegolf
@russellheritagegolf 5 жыл бұрын
Just watched a video...... OK, what I try to do is look at what the greatest players in the world do and find common features amongst them. This gives me evidence as to what NEEDS to exist and separates from preferences. Golf is a complex pattern of movements occurring together at a high speed which is what makes is difficult. My point is there are many “methods” towards certain ways to swing a golf club but the reality is the Pros all do certain moves many of which I discuss on the channel. I don’t want to be critical and I’m not on KZfaq to provoke but at the same time I want to help people and educate what needs to happen in the golf swing. I’ve only seen one video but struggling to find too many positives about this approach to the swing. The concept is to stay left sided similar to stack and tilt, even stack and tilt advocated a rotational element to their method. This guy just seems to flip it. Can’t see how this could help but maybe if I watched more videos I’m missing something. If you’ve seen more vids and there is more than I’ve suggested then let me know. If this video and explanation is the majority of the content then in a polite way I wouldn’t keep watching it
@boppieh8448
@boppieh8448 5 жыл бұрын
Russell Heritage Thanks for getting back to me. He actually advocates staying on the trail side ( right side for right hander) like a reverse pivot with the ball being played on trail foot and keeping lead shoulder closed. The video " ultimate channel lock " really explains his method. I understand you're teaching what better or best players do and I'm not questioning that. It is tough for a high handicapper that does not spend a lot of time on the range to accomplish the desired results. But, your explanation of the conventional golf swing is very clear. Thank you

Aren't you describing a two plane swing when you talk about dropping the arms at the same time of the weight shift? So for more power use more one plane? I'm confused....
@russellheritagegolf
@russellheritagegolf 5 жыл бұрын
Ok, I wouldn’t get too hung up on two and one plane. To be honest you can either rotate hard in the golf swing or allow the club to realise more to compensate for less rotation in your golf swing

You could and it would help, however you still need a rotation around the forearms as a strong grip can still open on the downswing.
