oh this is what I needed to hear today! Am on a journey of finding my own taste or sound- and this video got me thinking that whatever is going to come out of it is gonna be alright! Because, you know, we sometimes want to be that kind of singer that is popular at the moment...but what if we are not? IT IS OOOOOKEYY!

I'm loving your videos. I got your Find Your Sound worksheet and am working through it, it's been very helpful!

This is a good video, Gemma. You've made several good videos in a row, so what is KZfaq doing to your channel? You've got 169,000 subscribers and 462 views for this video. That means less than 1% of your subscribers have watched this. How is that possible? Seems to me that KZfaq is burying your videos or at least cutting way back on the exposure they give your content, but why would they do such a thing?

You're so kind thanks Russell. My subscriber growth came form doing short vocal technique hacks so my audience is really based on those which I don't make anymore. It might take time for me to build things up again serving my new niche which is singer/songwriters who want to release music. Let's see... Thanks for you kindness! x

@@trueartisttv Your explanation makes a lot of sense and I admire what you're doing, Gemma. There are lots of vocal coaches on the internet but this new direction you've taken your channel is something I haven't seen before. It's not something that's trendy that has gotten a lot of exposure yet. You're breaking new ground. As with any idea that's perhaps a bit ahead of its time, it could take a while before people really grab ahold of what you're doing and begin to realize that what you're offering has value to them. I wish you the best!

Gemma this is GOLD, thank you!! Going to focus on a strategy of choosing an unusual song with lyrics that really click with me for my next song pick. Also bonus shout out to Chilly Gonzales and the youtube rabbit hole you sent me down!

Isn't Chilly Gonzales just fabulous!? That video series he did is magic! Yay, glad that parameter for choosing your next song is helpful. It gives you wiggle room to make the vocal performance of it your own too. :)

This is a really informative good video, thanks for making it! Also for the masterclass, are we supposed to be able to interact with the assignments and change them? Or do we have to make our own?

I am really into Olivia Newton-John and Alanis Morissette, which categories do think they would fall in?

You need to ask yourself what it is you like about the artist or the voice beyond their genre. Ask yourself what do they have in common that you like!
