In this video, I will show you how to troubleshoot a low insulation on a switchboard (applicable only to low to medium voltage system).
A conductors insulation degrades the day it is made. That is why onboard, we do insulation resistance test.
Hello I am Mark Roy, I am an Filipino electrical engineer, signed on as an electrician on a ship, most of my ships I have I have been to were containerships, This time, I am on a bulk carrier ship.

Electrical engineering fight with moisture or humidity including dust particles, ... Same like mechanical engineering fight with fraction and gravity force , fraction couz of dust ... , challenge is to keep facility protected from natural factors . Vibration, fraction , dust , sunlight, , uv rays, climate change , temperatures , aging factor , salt water reaction, strain and stress factor, anodized factors , air, wind factors ... Hello! I am an engineer and the insulation problem is not clear to me. Your video is great and worth seeing! At the very beginning of the video (0:46), you measured current with the tester. Could you pls provide a drawing of this connection, pls? Also, your explanation of the motor is not clear to me as well. Why if T-face grounded it shows 0 Ohm insulation? I can understand that the current will flow with the easiest path from the R-face through the grounded U-winding to the ground (1:34). I was wondering if this current will back through the T-face ground and why? And why U-winding will be burned?

Yun nga ginawa nya diba. Hinanap lang nya specifically kung saan ang problema. Mas mabuti nga nahanap nya kaysa i isolate lang ang breaker which karamihan ng elec ginagawa tamad na nahapin yung saan nag short.

Meron ako video sana sir kaso nabura ko mga vids. Anyways. The most ideal way to test insulation of a machine is when it is in running condition. Kasi andun yung mga factors like temperature, vibration, etc2. Pero hindi kaya i-insulation test mo ang machine while energized. The closest we can achieve this ideal way is to check before and after run for few minutes. Tapos before mag test dapat may good ground ka, hindi naka energized ang machine. For low to medium voltage machine, spot-type lang, mga 1minute lang na i insulation test. Sana nakatulong. Salamat.

Wirings and cables have the copper conductor core and insulation surrounding. as time goes by, this insulation material may deteriorate over time. and current will leak to the ground. the metal hull in this case.
