Oh my that is a whole lotta flounces to make. My friend made a wedding dress one time that had a skirt covered in flounces, she had her husband create the flounce template(s) using AutoCAD (or similar) and sent that and the folded fabric to the laser cutter. It didn't cost a whole lot and the flounces were perfectly cut and didn't fray and she didn't go mad trying to cut them all out by hand.

Advice for frills pattern: the bigger the "doughnut" shape pattern of the flounce is the less movement you'll have and the more you'll need to gather to obtain more movement. Therefore the smaller the "doughnut" is the more movement you have (but you'll obtain a small amount in lenght). Hope this was well explained! 💕💕
@BellaMaesDesigns

Yup, it's kinda a hard thing to wrap your mind around, but yes, definitely!
@sRp517
@sRp517 3 жыл бұрын
I feel the same about the donut pattern. In my mind, I picture the flounces would be cut out as mini circle skirts. Small enough to be a full length skirt for a Barbie doll. The "waist" would be the length/width that is sewn to the edge of the human size skirt. That would minimize gathering fabric but still have that frilly look.
@Giovanni-rc1hs
@Giovanni-rc1hs 3 жыл бұрын
@@sRp517 in the way I see it would do something in between so have a good bit of lenght that I can gather. Also those flounces are going to have a fishing line at the hem so it'll emphasize the movement. I would also do some trials because you can't really imagine how fabric would react and also there is a possibility that the pattern would be different for every different fabric she uses because of how much of a different movement they obtain.
@sRp517
@sRp517 3 жыл бұрын
@@Giovanni-rc1hs I totally agree. I've been looking at pictures of the flounces and they look like they're about 6-9 inches in width and length. It's a complete guesstimate and of course it would vary from the different fabrics used. This is really getting the gears in my head to turn! I'm so excited to see the progression of this dress and Bella's techniques!

I can sew, but I'm skilled between beginner and intermediate. I feel like I could pull this the flounces, but struggle with the dress and bodice. When I get more skilled, I will probably download the PDF for the petticoat so I will be able to make adjustments for my waist size. I am very grateful for the fabrics PDF as it is a good place to start. I will have to get some poly organza to practice the flounces since I haven't worked with that material yet. I appreciate you sharing this journey with us.

Hi there. I just finished watching the 'flounce' video and this one I am now leaving a comment on. First you are by all means a hero to even attempt making such a complicated dress. In watching this it reminded of the segments on cable t.v. of this lady who makes gypsy wedding dresses. Those dresses were over the top. I can only imagine how much work went into these designs. Your DIY riggings were fantastic. I compliment you on your configuring the setup. You made mention on how expensive the fabric cost, to get down to the brass tacks just how much did each layer cost and how much did all of the layers and notions set you back. What was the final price of the dress. I truly would love to know. I will be watching more of your videos and I want to see how you completed the dress. Thank you for showing us your work. BTW I LOVE that hat it's so cute! Please keep making videos like this they are so amazing. Take care and God bless.

I remember in a past video in this series you weren't sure if you were going to do frills or flounces, so I was wondering what made you decide on flounces? Also I might have missed this answer in a previous video so sorry if you've already answered this.

I noticed that also, the layers of different fabrics affecting the top sheer layer. In the movie it looks like the top blue layer kind of fights with the layer underneath when she twirls and dances. The top blue layer looks like a matte organza sheer with glitter or tiny silver sequins. The layer under the blue looks like a poly white/iridescent organza with a shiny texture. Under that looks like regular fine matte bridal net in several layers. Just a guess. Wide bridal net is not expensive. Measure the length of waist to floor with your hoop on and add fold over for waist and hem on the top two layers. Net doesn't need to be hemmed.

I'm so gratefull for your research and the PDF 😭 Thank you so much! I plan on making Cinderella this year (starting march/april) but not quite pushing for the best replica you're aiming for. I'll have to change fabrics according to my budget. What would you recommend to replace yumissima with? Will silk organza be too heavy? If so, I might have to change the yardage needed but I really can't afford a fabric that don't even have a price tag on the website.😂 Silk organza is very expensive for me but I gather that for the outer layers only (and silk crepe for the skirt) I can save up for that. Can't wait to see your next cinderella video and to use one of your patterns ❤️

Oh yay, that's so exciting! I'd recommend trying to find a lightweight poly organza! Silk Organza probably wouldn't be the best to substitute these layers for, you want a slippery fabric and as lightweight as you can find!

Hi, I have the sneakig suspicion that the amount of fabric a creator says goes into the dress, they are actually talking about the yardage at the bottom. So in this case that would be the total length of flounce on the bottom end. Because admit... saying I have 20 yards of fabric around my enkles sounds a lot more impressive than saying I used 5 yards of fabric. Ofcourse that is not how they phrased it, but following my example, technically speaking you would have used 20 yards. It is just not the with it had on the bolt.

I LOVE YOUR CINDERELLA DRESS SERIES!!!!!! This may be a strange question but are you ever afraid that Disney will sue you or have your videos taken down? I was watching another KZfaqr a few years ago who recreated designer dresses and they sued her because 'exposing trade secrets?' or something like that. she had to delete her videos. I would hate to see that happen to you because you are so talented. I don't want to have you worried if it is not an issue but i dont want any large company coming after you.

I'm not incredibly worried! In order to be considered a copyright infringement it has to be incredibly close to the original design (and everything!) In order to be safe from it, I think is has to be around 10% different...which my dress will definitely be! There's no way I could know exactly how the made every little bit....at least I hope! 😂. So yes, I guess there's a chance it could be risk, but I think I'm okay! Also, I'm not sure what situation the lady you mentioned was in, but if she use to work in the industry and then started putting stuff out, I could see that "exposing trade secrets" could be an issue. But I've never worked on anything like that...learned everything I know from public information and private personal experience.

Are you gonna upload the pattern pdf on your website when you get to that stage I’m gonna make this gown as well and the only patterns I’ve found are ones that use less fabric but I’m following the way you’re doing it from the pdf of the fabric

Curious about your petticoat design....with only 4 yards for the second petticoat layer going over the first godet layer... won't the narrower profile second petticoat layer "trap" the first godet layer down so the flounces below aren't free to spin out? Or is that intentional to keep the flow of ruffles filling up the space from the floor on up as the dress twirls? Love watching your work and always looking forward to the next video!

In my country's currency, that amount of fabric costs thousands but it's gonna cost thousands more because if I made it for myself, I have to make it bigger in terms of yardage and proportions have to match me.
