FINDING FISH WITH A DRONE! Catching dinner on the flats

I've always used google maps and other apps to find likely fishing locations. After waiting to buy my first drone for a couple years I finally got the chance to put it to use to find 'real time' locations where the big fish were feeding! As I get more experience with my Mvic 2 Air, I'm sure things are going to get interesting!

Thanks for watching Paul. The kids love fish which has meant I’m now keeping a few more than I had in years gone by. Nice to experience that side of it all a bit more to be honest. The kids understand it all and have helped prepare it which is great I reckon.

@@mylurebox Agreed mate. Had an amazing day chasing Snapper on the yak the other morning. No love but hit some flats on the outgoing tide and got a feed of flatty myself. 😉

Cheers Drew ;) Been ticking over with the videos a tad slower of late mostly to ease up on late night editing binges to be a better version of human for my kids during holidays and early starts :) I love the routine of a couple a week when I’m in the groove so it’ll ramp up in the weeks to come. Cracken video catching the flatties on light leader. Last big flattie we caught off the hobie bust me off right at the yak, the 🐕 that would of gone 60ish also.

Awesome Johnny! nice fishing. Im curious about your sounder. Im in the market for a new sounder and im thnking a 9 inch humminbird with side scan ...and navionics... my thinking is that I can use it for navigation and fish finding and structure spotting. Do you ise yuor sounder to find drains as well? cheers keep up the great work! Love it mate!

Hi John, lots of good fish next to the weed in the passage this last week in 5 foot deep and under water, i landed 19 last Thursday and my mate 13, today was not as good with 7 boated but low tides were early and wind got up, and your so so brave with 6 lb leader, i got sawed off by a 65 cm model last week at boatside in just a few seconds on 16lb leader, and so strange you get so many bream, i get a bream about every 4 trips in the passage..

Interesting to hear that too mate. I was fishing some shallow weed areas that accounted for most of em. I was a bit surprised at those bigger fish to be honest and thought I might have seen numbers and not those 60s so I’ll be upsizing for sure for my next run. I fought em pretty light to keep the pressure off the leader too which probably helped I reckon.

FC Rock by Sunline is my go to. I also think i got lucky because I played the fish soft when it was shaking about. More pressure then might have pulled it right to cut through easier at the time.

Great footage. It's interesting the development of technology that can be used for fishing. Professional guides, tourist operators chasing dolphin pods etc. You need to find spots for video content. I think your average hack won't bother. I am a minamilist, I don't even share photos on social media often I don't even take photos of my fish. I got a go pro for Christmas and I don't use it So its not something I would use. Good fishng footage 👍

Gday Steiny ;) I tend to see good numbers of the smaller fish now and then find those bigger fish get aggressive around Spring time to hit the bigger lures in the shallows more. Definitely always around like you say. I also spend more time on the Jacks over Summer so maybe that’s why I don’t follow them as close then ;)

Love the drone footage John, congrats on 25K subs. mate, are we in for some catch & cook's in the future :). I hear the Tailor are showing up down your way, love a bit of smoked Tailor and have you any plans on chasing the Snapper on the close-in reefs after the closed season is finished on August 15.

We are traveling next year now instead of this year so I’m sure there’ll be plenty of em during that time too. Definitely gonna have to give those closer reefs a run for em ;) haven’t done any snapper fishing before so it’ll be another learning game. Damn good for the table too so the missus will be stoked

@@mylurebox Well I look forward to your travels around Australia John, I'm sure your family is going to have a great time. Snapper will eat just about anything when they're on the chew, I see a lot guys have success on soft plastics but as you know I'm an old bait fishermen and those Bonitos' you were throwing back a few months ago are a great bait for them... my favourite way was to cut the head in half and throw a hook in it. I burley them up, although being on a Jet Ski with sharks about may not be a good mix, especially at night.
