I've been looking for a lathe about like that for 6-8 years, so I have a fair grasp of the market. That is an excellant price for someone close to you. You put a LOT into it, and it shows as you described it. I've been mounting my first lathe, (Sherline 17" 4400), on a table, and attaching a motor, for the last month. This is the first lathe vid I've watched since I started, seeing 'full' size parts, instead of the miniatures I've been handling. Strange experience... You're doing someone a great deal, and they may not know it, yet. That lathe will serve generations to come, if maintained and noted abused. Good on ya for passing it on at a very good price... GeoD

That is one hell of a price for one hell of a machine. I have run the LeBlond heavy when I worked at Scot Industries back in the mid 90's and I can attest to it being able to take some extremely substantial cuts. That lathe is a tank, you're not going to hurt it at all. Good luck to the buyer, you're getting a phenomenal machine.

I live a few miles from the old LeBlond factory, it is a strip mall now. The old LeBlond mansion was converted to a grade school that I attended. One of my neighbors retired from LeBlond, another is the great grandson of William Lodge who has his own work holding business now. A lot of machine tool history here, would love to bring it back home to Cincinnati.

It was a couple of years ago when I was checking out a Craigslist lathe and I realized, "wait a minute, this is exactly like Keith Rucker's !". I watched the first videos of your tear-down series to get an idea of the general build quality of these. I wound up bringing that machine home. It's a slightly later S/N than yours, but still a 1943 model. I love the thing. Quiet, powerful ( mine has a 5 hp motor that looks original ), and RIGID ! It's only got a max spindle speed of 600 rpm but that's fine for my needs. No problem using carbide tooling. The previous owner of mine really took some cuts; there were massive chips still in the pan. Chunks, actually, and that was with the original lantern toolpost. I put an Aloris CXA on mine which is a very good fit for this size. Mine needs cleaning, paint, and a few very minor repairs so I'm very grateful for your video series so I know how things come apart & go together. Can't wait to see what you get to go in that spot. I'm sure you'll get a buyer soon. Regards, Jeff

6:35 - I just noticed the tail stock - very interesting, Keith, it appears to have a through taper ... ? The clamp (?) for the tailstock has an interesting shape. LeBlonde lathes don't seem to have made it to Australian shores - not in my experience, anyway, so I am not familiar with them. Nice lathe, Keith!

I just have 2 questions about this type of LeBlond lathe. I purchased a 1941 14” swing version of this lathe at a used equipment dealer. The lathe had been previously owned by the U.S. Navy. It’s got a 4 Jaw chuck on a tapped faceplate that uses a Spanner wrench. I’m trying to figure out what type of chuck faceplate it is, so I can purchase one to add a 3 jaw self centering chuck. Would you happen to know what style I’d need? Do you know where I could purchase the spanner wrench? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matthew Johnson

One of my lathes is getting a fresh coat of Vols Orange as soon as I can find someone to mix some oil based paint. I know where there is a 10EE that would look pretty good with Bulldawg Red :) Your hex color is # BA0C2F- cmyk =3,100,79,12 etc.
