We've been traveling with folding eBikes for many years, so in our travels we're constantly searching for great biking trails! When we're RVing, we prefer trails that pass right through our campground.
In this video, we share some tips for finding these elusive gems - as well as share some of our favorites!

We're Cherie & Chris and we've been full time technomads since 2006. We are owned by Kiki (meow).
We have a fleet of nomadic vessels that we split our time between - a 1961 GM 4106 vintage bus, a 1999 Bayliner 4788 motor yacht and a 2020.5 Travato GL van conversion. You'll find RV, van and boat life content here, as we feel inspired to share - sometimes topical, sometimes travelogues, sometimes just hanging out.
We love sharing a slice of our life with others, and also blog at www.technomadia.com, Facebook and Instagram. We use the name 'Technomadia' in all those places. Come join the adventure however you choose!
Income generation is NOT a goal of ours under the 'Technomadia' brand - we do this for fun.
Our full time 'job' is running the Mobile Internet Resource Center, where we track and educate RVers and cruisers on their options for keeping connected. Come join us at www.RVMobileInternet.com for news, guides, reviews and courses. We also have a dedicated KZfaq channel / mobileinternetresource... you can subscribe to. Through member funding, we can give away a lot of free content - and our members get even more.

Hard to beat Jekyll Island State Park! There are trails all over the island to restaurants, shopping, beaches, and historical sites right across the street from the campground. Still our #1 favorite bike trail.

In western Pa. there is a campground called the Blue Canoe in Connellsville ,Pa. The campground has the G.A.P. trail pass through the middle of the campground. One direction goes to Ohioplye and eventually Washington D.C. The other direction goes to Pittsburgh, Pa. The camp office even has hand packed ice cream for you. You can check out their website for information.

This is a great topic. I’m retired and ride a recumbent electric trike and have a tiny camper. I think this is on Rails to Trails list of goals. They asked in a survey recently and that was one of the questions. I have a KZfaq channel, but don’t have the skills or hardware yet to make fancy videos. I’ve also been to the Butler campground on the trail. My trike is in my van and camper is a 12’ SunRay 109 so it’s easy for me to drive to a trail. It’s a bonus when I don’t have to.

Spot on guys, thanks for sharing!! Got them on my list. Yes it is VERY hard to find campgrounds with direct access to bike trails. My travel trailer can haul the bikes but once I get to the campground if the access to the bike trial is far such that you need to travel there by car, then I'm out because I can't take the bike rack when I'm towing the trailer. Wanted to add one campsite that has probably 20+ miles of trail right on the camp site: Gulf Shores (probably already mentioned) You can camp, then get on the bike and finish the day in the beach. It is awesome.

You might enjoy the Kal-Haven trail that runs from Kalamazoo, MI to South Haven, MI. There are a couple of camping options at the South Haven end, plus multiple foodie places, as SH is the home of the National Blueberry Festival. SH is one of our favorite Lake MI resort towns!

Wisconsin has a number of State Parks adjacent to bike trails. Perrot State Park has the Great River Trail along the Mississippi, Brunet Island State Park has the Old Abe State Trail along the Chippewa River. My favorite trail though is the Heart of Vilas, you might try the campgrounds of North and South Trout Lake.

Yes, the Heart of Vilas County Bike Trails in Northern Wi. is amazing. There are a bunch of campgrounds right off the trail. They have 52 miles of paved trails going through Mercer, Manitowish Waters, Boulder Junction, Sayner, and St. Germaine. I have been going up there for the past 5 years for biking vacations. They have the best biking trails in Wisconsin.

Great topic! I actually wrote an article for Campendium a couple of years ago (there was a follow-up as well) about camping and off-road trail biking. Three more recent finds that come to mind are the Katy Trail that follows the Missouri River with Beyond the trail RV Park (brewery & pizza!) but there are several other campgrounds along the trail (check Campendium). The Root River State Trail in southern MN runs through lots of campgrounds and cute small towns. And the last one is the Hennepin Canal Parkway Trail in northern Illinois with the Genesee Campground among several others. We should do this! Almost forgot my favorite - William G. Lunney Lake Farm County Park in Madison with the Capitol City Trail connecting to several other trails. And another in Colorado - Heaton Bay Campground with the Dillon Reservoir Recreational Path.

I agree that this is a great topic and would love it if it were easier to match up great camping with great off road trails. Even better would be to add great farmer's markets or brew pubs as long as we are making requests! Hoping Harvest Hosts/Boondockers Welcome will also highlight as this might be a huge opportunity to fill in some gaps. Here are the ones we have found right on the trail. In Texas, the San Antonio KOA is right on the Salado Creek Trail which we have enjoyed. Campground is a little pricier, but woodsy with lots of birds and the kids love the playground. Jekyll Island, GA is an awesome place to explore by bike. Island access requires a toll which keeps traffic low and there is a bike path that runs along almost the entire circumference of the island with a couple of breaks in low traffic areas. There are diverse sites to see and plenty of places to stop and enjoy the beach or a snack...even ice cream. In Couer D'alene, ID there are two RV campgrounds right on the iconic CDA trail that we have stayed at. One at the Harrison City RV park, small sites and can be loud at night because there is a bar at the Marina with live music, but beautiful views of the water and *right* on the trail. Also great ice cream and coffee in Harrison. Further toward Wallace (super cute town that we loved), the new CDA River campground in Latour was ideally located *right* on the trail and had river access. Small with lovely people and a new bath house...you will need dishy here though, cell signal was non-existent last summer. There is also a Walmart directly off the CDA trail in Smelterville. Following for more...thanks for the Bentonville info Mary Ann Lee, that is on our list!

This is also my mission and I plan to find as many as I can in the future. My methods are very similar. Thanks for sharing your finds. Here are mine from 2022: - Long Point Park in FL, access to dedicated lanes and bike trails along US1 - > 30 miles - South Bay RV Park, direct access to Lake Okeechobee trail encircling the lake 100 miles+ - Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Indiana, access to several Rail to Trails for extensive riding - Casino Queen RV St. Louis, access to 60+ miles trails along Mississippi river and expansive Madison County system on Illinois side (rail to trails) - Several parks in Gulf Shores AL connecting to the parks paves trails and community trail system (Gulf State Park Campground, Doc's RV Park, Island Retreat). - WhimCycle RV Park near Ocala, FL - visiting in 2023 but advertise right on the trail system - Katy Trail across Missouri has a number of parks (also Rail to Trail, mostly gravel but very smooth). 250+ miles

You might enjoy the Chief Ladiga in Alabama. Chief Ladiga Trail From the Georgia state line to Anniston, the Chief Ladiga Trail winds through 33 miles of scenic Alabama countryside. Together, the Chief Ladiga and Silver Comet add up to nearly 100 miles of blissful trail! Both trails are included in this website's tools to help you plan your next adventure along the Chief Ladiga Trail, the Silver Comet, or both. There is a nice campground right next to the trail in piedmont Alabama.

I recommend the Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek Wisconsin. There are a lot of trails in the park that I have ridden on regular bikes, fat tire bikes and a recumbent trike. Mostly gravel and more than 30 miles. Not Licked Yet frozen custard is in Fish Creek, while a somewhat longer ride to Ephraim will get you to Wilson’s which has been selling ice cream and food for over 100 years. There is another ice cream place in Egg Harbor in the other direction called Grumpy’s. The fastest way there is to ride on the wide shoulder of the highway, but you can get away from car noise by moving over to empty county roads. So very many non ice cream things to see, but it is the dairy state. Fort Stevens State Park in Hammond Oregon has a lot of paved trails in the park. I think there is a way to ride into Astoria, but I don’t recommend the bridge although there is a bike lane that goes halfway across. But you can ride to Seaside on non busy roads. If you camp from the bike, there is an entire series of campgrounds along the coast with very low rates for hikers and bikers all the way from Vancouver to San Diego. I haven’t been to the Root River Trail in Minnesota, but I have been researching for 2024 and there appear to be several campgrounds along the trail and more nearby. I think Minnesota has a lot of trails and hopefully campgrounds next to them. The Tunnel Hill State Trail in Illinois has a campground very close to the Vienna trailhead. I haven’t stayed there yet. It’s on the 2024 agenda. With the Erie Canal, I think you can tie the boat up in places and the trail is sometimes right there. But in places the bike trail follows the old canal, while the boats use newer sections. I haven’t explored this because my boat is near Seattle, but if I did try a Great Loop, I definitely would have a bike and it goes through the Erie Canal.
