Back to Burrum Heads after a night of wind and rain! I thought the shells might have been swept away, but there was actually more than I thought there would be! Wow, I sure came away with some lovely (but stinky) sea urchins, and stunning scallops! Thanks for watching!

Good morning, Maddie Wow, the shells are lovely today. The swollen wide-mouthed top shell. The sea urchins are all very nice. The different scallops all have such beautiful markings. The bailer shells have awesome points. The fingernail clam joined is always a surprise. I just really enjoy all the shells. Thank you for another wonderful shelling adventure. G'day Toni 👋🏻💖 It's really fun to find the urchins! I took a ton home to clean (I still haven't done it) but I must have left at least four times as many behind on the small portion of beach that I checked! I think the Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells are perhaps a little more rare and interesting, and the scallops were a little more beautiful! Oh, those fingernail clams have been absent for month; I think that they might be a seasonal shell? I'm starting to find them again now that the weather is becoming much colder. Hi Maddie! The scallop you risked life and limb for was my favorite. Along with the good ole swollen wide mouth something or other shell. They are such unique shells. Thank you for doing what you do and being exactly who you are!

G'day Maggie 👋🏻🏖️ Hehe my goodness, it was worth it - that Strange's Scallop is the biggest one I've seen; it was in such nice condition that I didn't even recognize it for what it was at the time!! I guess I'm more used to seeing the beach worn scallop shells. The Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells are really cool and unusual; they're a really fun one to see here as well 😁 Awww gosh, thank you for your kind words, and thanks for watching another big adventure 🥰

G'day Trudy 👋🏻💖 Thank you ❤️ it's fun to be visiting this beach a little more regularly than once a year 😀 the urchins were fun, but uhhh I still need to clean them 😂 I will have to send you a photo once I'm done; though it might go into a KZfaq post and Facebook too. The Singapore Scallop is actually my second time finding these; I didn't know what it was the first time, so this is the only time I've been able to say what they are. I am very lucky that the museum here has released a comprehensive compendium of scallops from around Australia; I was able to verify it against the coloured depictions in that research document. Ok, enough nerding out from me 😅 Thank you so much, and yes, I think I'll always be out there looking for shells 🥰💖❤️

Loved all the sea urchins!!! ❤️ Can you put them on ant beds and let the ants 🐜🐜🐜 eat the insides? 🤔 The hinged propeller shells were pretty cool too. My favorite was the swollen wide mouthed top shell. Loved the scallops and the balers too. Fun adventure Maddie! Hope those sea urchins clean up good! 🥰🥰🥰

G'day Pam 👋🏻💖 I think they will look great all cleaned up!! Ahhh, I could leave them on an ant hill, but I probably won't because they're not in places were I want to leave 50 urchins 😅 but I think if I leave the urchins out in the elements for a few months, then the rot would probably degrade naturally...but I might try bleach again, and toss a few sacrificial urchins into it and see what happens 😂 maybe it will work with the non Sputnik Sea Urchins? Anyway! I'm glad that you liked the cool Propeller Arcs and the Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells; they're always fun to find! As always, thank you so much for watching 🥰

G'day Reet 👋🏻💖 From why I understand (based on what I've seen and what the various local beach walkers have told me), I think this beach is always an urchin apocalypse!! It's a lucky beach for the people who like to collect urchins and done mind the stink! You wouldn't want to unknowingly step on one, though!!! Thanks for watching the big adventure 🥰

G'day Roxann 👋🏻🐚 Oh yes, the urchin apocalypse happened upon this beach! I noticed a few urchins in a recent video of yours, too! Hehe, the voice overs do help when you don't know a shell name, but I'm sure you're getting really good at remembering them too 😉 when I'm out there and speaking on the day and don't know a shell, I just say that I don't know it -nothing wrong with that! Ah, but I do research them and put the name on screen when I need to, so that helps me to remember for next time. I hope you had a fantastic weekend as well, thanks for watching 🥰

Nice jingle! They are a lot bigger than the ones I find! Those propeller arcs are interesting. I’m not sure why but they are. I think they still remind me of bones. The jingle is actually my fav today. ❤

G'day Green Thumb Gardener 👋🏻💖 Ohhh this Jingle was only a medium sized one!! They can get much larger from here. It' odd, usually the US shells are bigger than the ones that I find here on the shores! Hahaha, ahhhh yess, those Propeller Arcs are often compared to bones! They do look like ribs from some kind of marine mammal 🤔 but thankfully, they're just shells! Thanks for watching 🥰

Wow Maddie what a bunch of beautiful shells. Of course I'm loving all the scallops. I have this thing for cardita's. Wide mouth top shell reminds me of abalone shells. The mud welk and the club welk are certainly very cool. I'm sorry I'm not saying much about the sea urchins. I swear I can smell the rot 😩😩 😂 I know ridiculous, I swear I can. G'day Roberta 👋🏻💖 The Two-toned Carditas are REALLY nice from this beach; I was quite surprised by the quality and quantity of them here! Oh yes, the Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells really do look like Abalones! Actually, I have a teeny tiny top shell that I mistook for an abalone! I needed to be corrected about what it actually was...so take everything I say with a grain of salt! Ahhh, yes, the urchins are cool, but you probably can smell the rot from over there 😅 I don't usually take home smelly shells, but I guess I couldn't pass these up this time?? I should stick to the naturally cleaned shells! Thanks for watching, and I hope you have a wonderful Friday evening 🥰

Today my fav was the reddish Singapore scallop, followed closely by the mud whelks and propeller arcs. So unusual and textured!

People clean off the sea urchins and keep all those tiny spines and make them into the coolest art. They make mosaic type pictures. I’m sure you’ve seen it before. It’s so cool. You should keep all the spines and make something.

G'day again, Lindsay 👋🏻💖 Oh, I think these spines might be a little too small for that...they're like pin sized spines; and then I need a sewing pin and tweezers to get the tiny broken spines out of my finger tips when I get home afterwards and wonder why they hurt 😂 its only happened three times... I think I'd need larger spines like the big purple ones from the Sputnik Sea Urchins to make any artwork work 🤔 Thanks for the ideas, and thanks again for watching 🥰

Hi Maddie, happy to join you on the beach😁. Very interesting to learn about the sea urchins. Beautifull scallops! I still can’t excuse the wind and I see it is still haunting you! 😂what is a sea bush? I’ve never heard of that before, are they like those balls of weed that blow around in the Wild West? The propellor shells were great today. We get those delicate urchins here in the UK, or a similar type. Lovely display at the end.❤xxx

G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 I thought the urchins were quite fascinating; how and why did nature evolve them to be like this?? It's crazy to me 😲! Ahhh, the wind, well, that just means that I need to talk louder...I look like a crazy person out there; everyone hears me screaming at the shells 😅 just gotta have no shame, I guess! As for the sea bush, I don't think it's like tumble weeds 😉 Nah, sea bush is my catch-all word for sea vegetation that not seaweed, kelp, or coral. Sea bush is like soft branches and, well, bushes 😂 that live in the ocean. I'm sure it has a proper name, but I'm no Marine Biologist 🏖️ Thanks for watching 🥰

@@SandCoffeeRocks Oh yes, Maddie😁! It is better not to export any shells from other countries at all, unless there are documents that they were purchased officially, otherwise tourists sometimes buy some shells and then wonder why the local customs transports them to the local prison😮😱🤭😂😂😂

Maddie take a Dremel and file down the opening to the baler and you can make it look more whole and smooth .

Good thing that Dad forgot to return that Dremel to his buddy...I mean, he sees his buddy every few days, but the dude never asks for it back 😂? I guess he hasn't needed it in a few years?? @@SandCoffeeRocks they are the perfect size. People use the super tiny spines and micro shells to build a mosaic picture. They take the unhatched shells out of dried up egg casings. I wish I could show you a picture.

G'day Nelly 👋🏻💖 Ohhhh yes, someone else said that this beach is like a sea urchin apocalypse 😲 and I think I agree! It's was a big day for the urchins...but now I have to clean them...😅 Onto the favourites!!! Wow, the Hercules Club Whelks comes in at number one!! You know, I think you should also be able to find them around the mangrove/estuary beaches where you live?? Have you even found one? Oh wow, and the second favourite is one of the few moon snails that I was able to find here -the blue eye was really nice one that one! Finally, the Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shell 🐚🤩 it's a really fun find! I also wonder if it's collectable from outside of Australia? Who knows, maybe you can find one of these too?? @@nellyjune9828 Oh no, urchins are so delicate 😧 I think you might find more urchins at beaches with a lot of sea grass or kelp forests nearby? The beach that I got the urchins from has a lot of sea grass; the manatees (sea cows 🐄) are known to come here to eat it! For the Hercules Club Whelks, I know what you mean! I see a lot of worn ones, but the only good ones come from two beaches here. I think you’d need to explore to find them. I don’t know about the Swollen Wide-mouthed Top Shells….i think they’re hard to pin down!

G’day Amanda 👋🏻🐚 That’s a good question, and still one that I’m figuring out myself. I will be doing a few tests to see which is best: bleach, laundry oxy soap, hydrogen peroxide, or something else? If you have any recommendations, please let me know 🙏 and thank you so much for watching 🥰
