Bravo! From a Subud member in Texas, the U.S, this is a very well-done, even-handed glimpse into Subud and the latihan. Thank you for studying and presenting this spiritual practice in such an intelligent way.

My mum met Bapak in the late 60's my Dad was a pupil of Mr John G Bennet who helped spread subud. Sadly it's diminishing. My father practised subud for years and the first time he did it he turned into a wolf and went through a wall. However he was a rather extraordinary man and achieved great progress in growing as a human being. Unlike the majority of the human race these days. Brain washed, cloned and materialistic. Bravo as this attitude is pushing the world and its inhabitants to the brink of extinction.

Subud can only be grasped in its essence by practicing the Latihan. Subud is the Latihan, plain and simple. And the Latihan is worship of God born in a free soul that regards God as the beginniing and the end of its journey. Subud solo puede ser entendido en su esencia mediante la practica del Latihan. Simplemente, Subud es el Latihan. Y el Latihan is adoración a Dios, nacida en un alma libre que reconoce a Dios como el principio y fin de su búsqueda.

Odd to see on google page a reference to "sanctification" instead of "purification." I definitely am more interested in the latter than the former!

I and my husband and family members were Subud members for 10 years fully believing it was a contact from Almighty God. It all depends on what "God" we are talking about. Bapak claimed the Latihan Kejiwaan was a spiritual contact from and with God. He also taught the practice of the latihan would gradually cleanse and purify you into eventually a perfect human being. Eternal life was defined as being 'opened' by receiving the latihan. One actually has to have FAITH THAT THIS CONTACT IS INDEED FROM God. Subud is based on the premise as taught by Bapak that the 'latihan' contact IS the SPIRIT or ESSENCE of ALL RELIGIONS. This is clearly contradicted by the different religions teachings. Christianity teaches it is only by faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and his death on the cross for our sins that one receives the true HOLY SPIRIT of the ALMIGHTY GOD of the BIBLE. This gift of faith is received by Gods grace in Christ and is not dependent on works we do. As we grow in understanding and obedience to the Bibles teachings we are more and more transformed into Gods image the Bible teaches. In essence Subud claims that the latihan replaces Christ and the Spirit of God. Bapak also taught many teachings which are archived , recorded and revered among all Subud people generally. Bapak also taught Jesus was symbolically a seed, Mohammed (prophet of Islam) was the boy but Bapak is the complete man. He also taught that Jesus Christ was just a prophet and not the Son of God, and the Messiah of Israel and Saviour of the world. Bapak living in Indonesia and being a professed Muslim had to teach what Muslims taught or else he would have been in trouble from the authorities. Most Christians in Subud don't understand what Christianity really teaches and if they do, they end up leaving Subud or often converting to Islam. Subud has a high rate of people converting to Islam and we would describe it now as a kind of pentecostal Islamic practice. One must remember Bapak was a Muslim who was steeped in Sufism ( mystical spiritual experiences and spirits) which is very popular in the part of Indonesia where he lived. The Latihan does not promise forgiveness of sins or eternal life as Jesus Christ does. It merely leads one up the garden path. Steer clear it IS a cult and many people have had quite bad experiences in it. Plz look up the Rick Ross cult site and then Subud on that. May the one true living God lead you all out of deception and error into his full truth found only in Jesus Christ the RISEN AND REIGNING NOW AND SOON RETURNING Son of God!. WE ARE ALL BORN IN SIN AND CANNOT "WORK" OUR WAY OUT OF SIN BY DOING THE LATIHAN REGULARLY. SIN FORGIVEN IS A ONE TIME TRANSACTION BY FAITH IN CHRIST IE JUSTIFICATION. SANCTIFICATION IS THE ONGOING WORK OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD WITHIN OUR HEARTS. ETERNAL LIFE AND FORGIVENESS OF SINS AND THE INDWELLING OF GODS SPIRIT IS PROMISED TO EVERY BELIEVER IN CHRIST BUT NOT TO EVERY BELIEVER AND PRACTITIONER OF THE LATIHAN KEDJIWAAN OR SPIRITUAL EXERCISE / CONTACT GIVEN BY BAPAK ( Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo). There are many false prophets gone out into the world the Bible teaches. Only those who teach Jesus is the Christ are true teachers of God. Subud does not deliver the truth but a counterfeit of God's truth. It looks and feels very similar to the real thing but is not!

This is also known as Satanism, clearly being detailed with all the wonderful things we would all enjoy believing. The name of Christ alone will rebuke Satan!
