Hey guys!! Today for Day 6 of Singles Week I thought it would be a good idea to inventory my single shadow collection so that I can see where the "holes" are and what colors I keep buying over and over again! It was really fun to separate my shadows by finish and also group them by color and it really let me see what I am naturally attracted to and what colors I might "need" (haha yeah right!) One thing to add: don’t think you have to buy single shades if you have “holes” in your collection, maybe it’s bc you’ve got mire than enough of them in paletts :)

@@angyles1 That's a good point. When Lauren was going over the holes in her mattes, she was lacking yellow mattes, but from memory she rarely does eye looks in that shade anyways.

That's very true. Almost every single I've purchased in the last yr has been a green shimmer or a duochrome. I use them with my existing palettes. That way, I (hopefully) don't fall into the trap of buying a "meh" color story bc i love one sparkly green. I definitely need a better system of organization though. I have a problem not buying all the green shadows.

You know what I would love to see next: how to fill the "gaps" in your collection by mixing colors! For example, taking a yellow matte on the eye and putting a light pink shimmer on top to get an orange shimmer! Idk I think that would be a super interesting experiment to see how many "gaps" you could potentially fill! (Obviously it's easier and more versatile to have an actual orange shimmer, per the example, but I still think for those of us on tight budgets/with small collections it would be really helpful and interesting to see you use your talented eye for colors to try this!) Ps. Love you and your videos! 🤩✨😘

Not all shadows mix, some layer instead. And sometimes undertones mix in ways that you don't expect and you get a muddy mess.

Hahahaha. I would never see my makeup collection in terms of how long it would take me to use it up, but sometimes men can be more practical and that does not apply to makeup lovers (makeup hoarders) 😂😂😂😂.

Disagree. I’m female and a makeup lover however I am also a minimalist so I have a small collection and even though I love a lot of things, I only buy what I need. That way I never have to throw something away because it’s gone bad. If I buy a makeup product and it doesn’t work for me I will sanitise and give it away or if I can’t sanitise it (lip gloss) then I hate pan it til it’s gone.

Something I noticed during this vid is the language often used when talking about collections. (I know this video is about 'holes' in your collection). In this video, for example, when organising into the colour wheel the language used is 'what am I missing' - reflecting a scarcity mindset - rather than 'what do I have' - an abundance mindset. It's interesting, to me, that this stood out to me. So often our culture is all about 'this is missing from your life, get this to fill a hole' rather than recognising what we have. But then I suppose that's what a commercial/capitalist culture works on - have the new version, the bigger collection etc. etc. rather than using what we have when it works perfectly well. I did like this vid, just to be clear, just something I noticed. It'd be interesting as someone else pointed out, what the singles collection looks like alongside your palettes and if some of the singles holes are covered by palette colours.

When organising paints into a colour wheel I put lighter shades toward the middle and darker shades toward the outside this lets you put white in the middle with very light shades around it and black or very dark colours around the outside. It could be done in reverse as well, it lets you place neutral colours. Black is black because it absorbs all light, white reflects all light.

You content is giving me life right now. I love how you break everything down mathematically and practically. It really makes me think about what's actually worth buying, how to dupe, how to shop my stash, etc. The order that you're putting to your collection is making me want to make an archive of all my shades into a visual database.

This is the best idea so far! But I guess it's the culmination of all the previous ideas in this singles series.... I had been thinking, you can't NOT buy ANY new makeup! You're a makeup channel! You need some! So focusing on the gaps is a great place to start! And then the flip side of that coin is also to know what you already have an abundance of.... this has been a good exercise! Everyone should do it. Maybe with their palettes. I know you actually helped me see I could fill in gaps in my palette collection with singles!!!! So that was good. I realized I needed PURPLES!! So I bought 4 purple singles from ColourPop!!

Very smart of you to use the color wheel - it shows you really have an understanding of color theory like tone, undertone, shade, etc. And yeah the neutral/brown colors go in the middle! I just did a color wheel exercise for beauty school and I wish I had this many shadows to recreate it with 🤩😍 I did mine by mixing nail polishes instead. If you have a big nail polish collection too, I think that'd be cool to see!

Since you mentioned not having any bright pink and orange shimmers maybe look again into the kaleidos VR Neon palette because there's the brightest pink shimmer and the orange one is super pretty as well and you can just pop them out! 😊

I really enjoyed this video and singles week seeing your collection. For me I only buy “special “ shimmer shadows just to add to my palette collection and that sees to be working for me so far. I find I do the same as you though, my collection leans green, blue, purple. Thanks for sharing

The organization by colour was so satisfying to look at. I think the only thing to be careful of is not to buy new eyeshadows just because it's a hole in your collection. It should also be a colour you would actually use. It's a temptation I have to fight when buying clothes, as there's many holes I could fill, but you can end up spending/wasting alot of money buying items you won't use (ie. filling holes you don't need to fill). This is really handy though to see where you're overbuying in a colour category.

I was halfway through writing a comment about how you should consider that Terra Moons Neons bundle when you said it yourself! I have them myself and I love them. They're a bit powdery so the fallout is a lot but the pigmentation is gorgeous. Between those, my TM duochromes, my Clionadh shades, and my depotted Menagerie Pastel Pup, I have everything I need for my colourful looks! I recently added the Glamlite Ice Cream Dream just to have as a handy one stop shop for travelling and I can safely say I do not need any more colourful shadows. I would also recommend trying some more of Clionadh's normal shadows outside the Stained Glass Collection once they reopen! They're really great and don't get the recognition they deserve since they get overshadowed by the SGC.

@@mirandaquinnn would a magnet help when I’m trying to move them around? I also need one of those little tools that Lauren uses to depot too! I stuck my nail in my Sydney grace twisted shifter, and it made a messy hole in my lovely multichrome! I end up just leaving them In the larger palettes and try not to move them around much.

@@kristentrep5038 I am not sure if the magnet will help with moving shadows around, but it will help you getting the shadows out the Palette. One other tip. Some shadows might have some ingredients that might stick to the magnet so using a thin plastic (like the ones usually already come in palettes) in between the shadows and the magnet might help.

I'm wondering what makes you want to see p your shadows by brands instead of by color ? Isn't it more difficult to use because you might not remember every single color you own and from which brand, whereas if you had a palette for each color, and you know you want to do a purple, yellow and warm neutrals look, you just have to pull your palettes that have those colors ? Or do you only use your singles in smaller bundles you have created beforehand in smaller 9 or 12 pans palettes with a color story you chose ?

I love this idea and am going to do it myself! I completely agree that the more you get into your collection the more you know it and can avoid duplicating or buying things you don’t use. It also helps me resist buying in general - the feeling that I love a shadow a lot but don’t use it as often as I’d like. Great video!

I think this was such a great idea! My singles look pretty similar in terms of having a PLETHORA of shimmery, sparkly, shiny shades and only having a fraction of that in mattes. I never use my single mattes though. This was really satisfying to watch you sort by colors!

I loved that top left neutral corner on your matte & shimmer shades- all the greys! I realized I buy palettes many times looking for THAT grey, or that silver shade. I wish I had more of them!!!

Grey is my favorite shade of eyeshadow!! It was a real struggle to find good ones during "the warmed toned years." Lol So happy to see grey making a comeback though! 🙌💜 I have lots of beautiful grays, but the best silver in my collection is definitely On a Whimsy, from Colourpop. It's insane! I don't think a more pure metallic silver could exist in the universe.

One of my classics is Mushroom by UD- I think it’s described as a warm grey, but on me it’s a neutral/cool grey. I just got a grey in the Juvias Place Nomad that is a grungy grey & I love it! I love hearing other people’s fav grey/silver shades! Thank you!!

I recently subscribed. Idk if I said that in a past video. Anyways, I haven't been a subscriber for a month yet and girl, you're a hidden gem. I wish you so much success. I got inspired and decided to attempt to hit pan on my palettes, write down the colors I use the most / my favorite color from each palette i own because let's face it. It's only a few in every palette!! and then get singles of those favorites to make my ultimate custome palette. It's a lot but doable. LOL

I love your eyelooks but I have such a different eyeshape I can never recreate them... Also I just received my Viseart grande pro 3 and the shadows are so good, I am excited. I also received the Ofra luxe set, but was disappointed, I will be gifting it to one of my friends who has little makeup. The Milan lipstick looked magenta on me (It has been the bane of my red lipstick quest with my olive skintone..) oh well. Anyways, thank you for this week’s content, this is everything I love! I have a pretty good size single collection but I'm missing duochromes and multichromes. I'm so looking forward to Devinahs black Friday bundle. I do want the JD glow galaxy collection and then there's whenever cliondah opens their shop again.
