I didn’t know that we had wild boars in the Uk. I wonder if they are protected

Unfortunately wild boar are not protected - whilst they are a native species they were not the subject of an organised reintroduction programme; rather they escaped from boar farms and were, in some cases, released by the public. They've since spread across large parts of the UK and are in the process of becoming naturalised in the environment once again - good news!

"...can affect golf courses, peoples' gardens and other areas of natural beauty.." Think about that statement. The boar, whether introduced by people or not, were here LONG before these golf courses and gardens and the people who make them. People are SO arrogant. Golf courses and peoples' gardens are NOT places of natural beauty. Wild places had to be destroyed by humans so they could have their golf courses and gardens....and homes. Who's doing the most damage? Boars or humans? Intelligent people can see the irony of this argument. Learn to live with the boar. Otherwise, shut up.

You're absolutely right - our appreciation for nature is a key example of shifting baseline syndrome. In this video Robi is more referring to gold courses, gardens - and areas of natural beauty - separately - apologies if this was not clear! The benefits of wild boar are very obvious, and there should be strong incentives to have them in our landscape. In Biome's opinion, far from detracting from the natural beauty of a given landscape, boar can only ever enhance it!
