San Diego Comic Con is famous for its long lines, incredible displays of comics and anime, and huge announcements from Marvel and DC, but the real appeal of Comic Con lies in its Comic Con Cosplay. At SDCC 2019, Kya Quinn was on the ground talking to all the fantastic cosplay boys and cosplay girls of San Diego Comic Con 2019 to explore why representation matters in the cosplay community. The Black cosplay scene is thriving, but years ago, Black nerds and other nerds of color had a hard time finding characters that would represent them in their Comic Con cosplay, but the San Diego Comic Con 2019 cosplay we save was nothing short of spectacular.
From the Spider-Man into the Spiderverse star Miles Morales, to the Sailor Scouts from Sailor Moon, and of course, the proud and courageous Dora Milaje of Black Panther, all of the cosplayers we spoke to were having the time of their lives at San Diego Comic Con 2019, and their incredible costumes were the highlight of the SDCC 2019 cosplay we saw on display. As part of Nowthis Nerd, Kya Quinn loves to share her enthusiasm for nerd culture through her cosplay, and her look at Comic Con Cosplay 2019 is her way of highlighting the need for representation and the joy it brings to nerds everywhere.
