Gabrielle Ferrara shares how she advocates for mental health in various ways, especially in her professional work with individuals with eating disorders and OCD. Gabrielle Ferrara, MSW, LSW is a Licensed Social Worker in New Jersey. Gabrielle currently works in private practice and sees clients through the Lukin Center for Psychotherapy. Gabrielle specializes in eating disorders, OCD, and navigating life transitions. Gabrielle earned her B.A. in 2018 from the University of Miami where she majored in Psychology and Criminology and then went on to attend Rutgers University, where she earned her Master of Social Work degree with a clinical focus. Gabrielle is a passionate advocate for all-things mental health and compliments her direct clinical work in different ways, such as her involvement with the National Alliance for Eating Disorders, where she is a support group facilitator. Gabrielle has been featured as a guest on mental health podcasts and has had writing published on The Mighty and Psychology Today. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

"I had to work hard to create thoughts that were louder and more important than my eating disorder thoughts and my OCD thoughts…" -when I heard this I stopped the TedTalk and just sat for a second. This sounds so simple but for someone with OCD this is one of the most challenging and difficult tasks! You've left me inspired~

Why are obsessions and compulsions about food/weight seen as an eating disorder and not OCD? If those obsessions etc were about something else apart from food /weight it's OCD. Why is this lady categorising her thoughts about food obsessions differently to other obsessions she classes as OCD? They're just different subjects of the same disorder
