𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝟭𝟭 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯.
In April this year, Carte Blanche investigated a lawyer from the Eastern Cape allegedly stealing millions of rands from children with cerebral palsy. Under the pretence of helping their mothers claim medical negligence damages from the Department of Health, he used their cases - and sometimes even fictitious ones - to claim the money and left the families with nothing. In the second leg of our investigation, we uncover how the lawyer‘s alleged malfeasance has been known about for years by the Legal Practice Council (LPC). The LPC is responsible for ensuring that legal representatives act in an ethical manner for the benefit of their clients. But time and again, it appears to have failed to stop this lawyer’s fraud. Just how far would he go to allegedly steal from vulnerable children? And why did the LPC apparently fail to act?

That's the problem with most people practicing law. It is too easy for them (Lawyers/trustees) to stick their hands in the cookie jar just because they hold a title . The institute's that pay these large sums so easily without proper investigation done first should also be held accountable. They all cover for each other ,That's why they don't comment and they keep everything silent . All corrupt !

The LPC receives audits yearly for these accounts, why did they not pick it up. The institutions who pay are bound to what courts order. Courts are the ones who order that the monies be paid into the lawyer's accounts

I'm not disabled, nor am I a victim of a road accident resulting in a road accident fund claim but my family and I have been scammed by people from that profession in Mpumalanga (exact location withheld). The legal practitioner hailed from the part of the country that the victim in this episode is from. Sadly though, there are many incidents of such a nature that go undetected and unpunished. As for the "wheels of justice" coming to the aid of the children; I wouldn't put that statement with the name "South Africa" in one sentence. Absolutely outrageous and despicable!

Oh, this happens frequently, especially with RAF beneficiaries. It puzzles me why the letters are not sent straight to the beneficiary, but only to the lawyer. Someone will be awarded a RAF payout of R 5 million, but will only get R200k.

What is absolutely infuriating in SA is that it is quite evident that if you have big money then the law does not apply to you. The Carte Blanche investigation has shown beyond a shadow of doubt that this guy is guilty. The LPC write up a so called damning report yet nothing gets done and why is that? I think its simple, all one needs to do is Pay the right people and they will in turn shut their mouths and enjoy the ill gotten gains with you! Its blatantly obvious that someone or a few people that matter high up in the LPC have been paid handsomely.

I have a feeling the guy works with people from the Eastern Cape department of health and some of the money somehow ends up in their hands. It's quite clear. It's easier for them to account for funds that flow out of the department's accounts this way. The lawyer's main duty is to scout for such children and the rest is easy. They are paying people in big positions for the matter to get less attention. I feel bad for the kids and the parents.

Lawyers are covered by the LPFF. Its alot of money that can go above the tress hold but some money can be recovered. They should also sequestrate his estate.

His time will come .. he will lose everything and be flat broke. I know of someone who took RAF money in his days as a young lawyer. Today he depends on Sassa pension fund has no car and house. He is leaving in the villages in his late parents' home. The arm of the law is long it might look like nothing is happening today but one day his licence will be taken.
