I gotta say that BFS reels are VERY underrated for finesse presentations, love using them! I know spinning gear is the preferred method, but there’s just something about using a bait caster with those finesse presentations for me.👊💥🎣

Not underrated at all. The lack of options and only in recent years suppliers in the US have had a chance for people to buy them not from over sea.

Yes Sir...got a Dobyns Sierra 7ft fast 1 power and a Curado BFS reel a couple months ago. I've been really enjoying it so far. When the fish are slowed down that light setup is so much fun. 3 lb smallies are like a 10 lber on my regular setups.

Great video as always Matt! That’s no joke about San Diego lakes and pressure. That’s where I cut my teeth bass fishing. I went once with a friend from church. A month later I was in his club fishing club tourneys and a year later had my Skeeter. Now I’m up by Chico near your old stomping grounds. Yours is the first KZfaq channel I subscribed to and 4 years later still my main source for great info. Thanks to you and Tim for doing so much to help us all out here.

Super good advice on this one. I'm trying to do what you're talking about on BFS gear and have had pretty good success so far. I'm using straight fluorocarbon line in the 4 to 8 pound class. I use the Dobyns 740 rod on most bottom bumping lures and the 700 Dobyns on moving baits. I'm still experimenting allot but for the most part I just do with BFS as I did with spinning tackle. Thanks again for the great video!!

Great tips Matt. I lost a bass last night that just barely pulled on the bait which snagged in weeds at the same time. Since I had a clump of weeds, I reeled in quickly only to realize last minute that a bass was holding on to my worm in the clump of weeds I had dragged back and let go at the bank 🥺. I did get another bass on a TRD Crawz and same thing, the fish loaded up but felt like a wet sock or clump of weeds. This time I popped the rod and set the hook 😉 We had a serious cold front in Florida that dropped the water temp quite a bit this last week and had the fish very lethargic and though the temperatures went back up, they still seem to be very slow moving so the Ned rig, Neko rig and slowly dragged weightless senko Texas rigged are the only baits working right now.

I have an 8' 2" medium power/fast action spinning rod for the exact "tip-watching" you describe at the end of this video, as well as for longer casting of lighter finesse baits and for working the occasional spybait. Anyone who has done their fair share of almost any type of fishing knows when their target fish is getting 'frisky on the bait', and is about ready to take it. So just look for the wiggles, set the hook, and have fun!!!

I use that Netbaits Crush and Jr Crush...very similar to what you pulled out. I was catching fish deadsticking them last week when it was in the teens and twenties and when I went to the baitshop everyone said they didn't catch squat. Your Givin up the Juice here....hopefully guys won't pay attention....lol! That buoyancy is so important...I literally rig at my house and try baits out in a big bowl of water.

Regarding adapting to the cold, I think a big reason why the fishing improves on warmer days is that the more comfortable conditions make us more patient with working baits and less likely to overwork our lures. A single warm day or just a few of them in a row rarely significantly changes the water temperature. The fish do definitely react to it, but I think the effect on most anglers' mindsets can't be ignored.

I have never been able to catch anything on those Z-man TRDs, but I have been able to wear them out on the Z- man Hula stickZ. They are taller and have little fingers on the end. I guess they are just enough to flow with the water and catch the attention of the fish. I’ll either pop them up, and keep the rod tip up while they sink, or slow drag them the way people do the TRD.

this is basically my entire system for my heavily pressured from shore ponds I fish is south Texas most of these ponds are spring fed the water clarity is as clear as clear gets on the scale so much so My approach up to these ponds are half of these bait systems,.system being the key word when dealing with cold clear extremely heavily pressured water just the way you deliver the bait to the water can be the make or break when using any of these bait systems Matt is going over here and especially from shore in heavily pressured clear water ponds it's crrucial to use stealth mode, don't walk near the shoreline don't make a big splash on bait delivery use the lightest line and tackle you can everyone wants to know my secret to the monster bass I catch here and this is all of it in a nutshell yeah there are about a dozen more rigging systems and baits but, what it really comes down to is not alerting the fish in the ponds to my presence the delivery of the most natural bait presentations as stealthily as possible and if its one that thev have never encountered before bigger bonus, these are my tactics and ive perfected these methods by becoming a specialist I fished all but 5 days last year over 1,300 bass caught I was skunked 6 days out of 360 my secret recorded here in matts video comments section so if I really like you and I sent you this video because you wanted to know my secret I recorded here mainly because Matt is the most detail oriented when it comes to what it takes to have the highest rate of success I could find on you tube, the devil is in the details if you can execute all these determining factors I guarantee success or Matt will give you a million dollars being that he's the you tube fishing millionaire, lol, Matt I have to thank you for this because I really don't have the patience to teach someone all the little tedious attm details and how crucially important they all are for the highest success rate, if I make the least ammount of mistakes I'm always successful finesse angling is attn to detail this is what makes me the most successful angler in my area, and this is my secret. appreciate you Matt for the illustration

Long time subscriber here, he actually has a couple, one of which is one of his “seminar” videos that he was doing at a tackle show. If I remember correctly the basics were to fish super shallow because those fish were going to be there looking for food, they were not going to be out on structure but up in all the newly flooded brush and cover. I think the video was how to catch your personal best (there’s several with similar titles so look for the one where he is speaking to a crowd).

I am new to drop shot fishing. You talk about wanting a slow fall, but if you have a tungsten wt Isn’t the fall already predetermined? You did not talk about deciding depth of the hook in relation to the wt on the bottom - sort of important for those of us not linked live action crt’s to show the bait going into the mouth of the fish. We’re you fishing the mosquito and slow sink bait with out any drop shot wt below it? Very confusing.
