I think now more than ever is a great oppurtunity for kayak fishing to shine. Kayaks really give you the ability to go where no one else can go. Finding those hidden spots and those areas boats can not go I think could be really amazing fishing

The lakes around where I live we just got deep round lakes. Just makes alot of paddling. I'm sure yaks are awesome on reservoirs or rivers though. Can literally pick it up and walk over some logs to a lagoon

Over the past 20 years of fishing out of canoes/kayaks I've found that (at least for me), the years that a reservoir is low, cutting off access to a lot of water the big boats can't get to anymore is nirvana! Carry, drag, wheel your canoe/kayak to isolated water and have it to yourself....
@outdoorsman4245
@outdoorsman4245 3 жыл бұрын
@@ClumsyCars good luck because my kayak loaded with me in it can float in only 3 inches of water. I do not think a flat bottom boat with trolling motor going to clear 3 inches of water. Unless they will to get out and drag the heavy boat. Even if I have to drag my kayak I can because it's not near as heavy as a boat.

As a co-angler fishing the MLF Bass Fishing League I do a lot of power finesse fishing. My rod set up is basically a 6’ 8” or 6’ 9” M or MH bait caster with 14 or 17lbs flouro. I use alot of smaller profile baits, 3” smallie beavers, baby rage bugs, 3” pit boss, 3.25” craw fatty, baby rage craw, hammer craw, 4-6” worms, stuff like that. Usually on the Medium rod I’ll fish a 1/8th Texas rig and the MH I’ll throw a 1/4. The hard part was finding the right hooks to use with baits that small and line as heavy as 14-17lbs test. A 2/0 Superline EWG fits most of those baits perfect. If it’s not a superline hook you’ll probably bent it or break it off like I did.

I used to hate throwing a spinning rod but I have had really good luck this year throwing a super light Texas rig with spinning gear. A small 1/0 size EWG, 1/8 tungsten and small 2.5” creature bait. Braid to leader of course and with that 1/0 EWG you can pretty much just reel into them with a little lean to set the hook. Beats not catching fish!
@aleckrug1554
@aleckrug1554 3 жыл бұрын
Same. 10lb braid 12lb floro 2/0 ewg 1/16 oz weight with a little slender white 3.75in swimbait. Swims like 2 inches under the surface like a minnow on a straight retrieve
@colonelangus3826
@colonelangus3826 3 жыл бұрын
@@aleckrug1554 I’ll have to give that a try. I usually throw my finesse swimbaits on a small megabass jig head but have had better luck with the small Texas rig this year just because it’s weedless and my home lake is almost entirely grass. I tend to have better luck with vertical presentations when the bite is tough. Reaction baits we’re back on this weekend though so I’m pretty much done finesse fishing for the year.

Colonel Angus.....you sound like you're apologizing for finesse fishing! The word finesse used in association with fishing is a fairly new thing. When flipping big mop jigs with pork trailers weren't catching fish..... I would go what we called "ultralight" and fish a Carolina rigged 5" lizard (Pumpkinseed with a chartreuse tail) , 1/16 oz lead weight, 1/0 hand-sharpened hook.... It worked great and we had some epic battles on ultralight tackle with big fish....

@@markbuckallew4689 haha no apologizing from me! I’m just a flipper at heart. To me nothing is more fun than flipping cover and docks. The snap of a heavy hook set on straight braid just makes me the most happy!

Learning how to fish bass some 40+ years ago in SoCal, finessing was a norm. So, my goto finesse rigs are: 4. Reaper on a darterhead 3. Hexit (sm Gitzit) 2. Doodling (Don Iovino style) 1. Splitshotting or Dropshotting I’ll throw a weightless Senko too, but I don’t consider it “finessing” like the above techniques.

Although these channels are a GREAT teaching platform, they also give away a lot of “secret baits” and also shows a lot of tips to fish offshore and I think that also adds a lot of pressure to fish that didn’t see as many baits as before. Nothing negative against all these channels teaching and informing. Just another small reason I think the bite is just a tad harder then normal on top of the added anglers on the water in the past year and a half. Love the channel and your content TB

It's true tho. I know for a fact I've landed more fish because of particular techniques and color from TB. Social media, internet, KZfaq, population, Covid etc. Has all effected fishing everywhere. I grew up throwing a 4" lizard on a splitshot rig and it killed but now we have a 100 ned rig baits and I hate it haha. Just have to addapt and learn.

Out here in Utah I absolutely kill it using finesse techniques. Especially the ned for smallies in our reservoirs. I’m an angler that uses many disciplines for fishing. Fly rod, spin rod and occasionally I’ll pick up a bait caster depending on what I’m targeting. Refusing to use a certain discipline cause of pride or aesthetics is just cheating yourself out of valuable tools for your toolbox.

When i need a fish i throw a little green pumpkin zoom fat albert grub on a thin wire 1/0 EWG hook with no more than 1/8 oz weight not pegged. I just alternate between SLOWLY dragging it and little hops with longer pauses. I always put it on my abu 6'6" spinning rod. I use 20-30lb hi viz braid with 2-4 feet of 10-12lb fluorocarbon leader. I have caught more fish on that setup than every other setup combined.

When your exploring new fishing waters it's always hard to gauge wether you need to downsize or change baits OR if it's just bad water/fishing spot. I usually just explore with my go-to killers so that way I'm experimenting more with the water/spots than with the actual presentation since I'm already challenged with locating the fish. Tight lines y'all! 👊🎣💯🔥🤙

In my scenario it was the opposite. Highland resevoir, partly cloudy, 80 degree water, and 3-4 feet vis. I started with finesse thinking it would get the job done, and I only got one bite almost all day on little baits. Then I switched to a 4.8 on a swim jig and landed a solid fish. Switched gears, and landed nice ones on mostly a heavy Texas rigged brush hog bounced violently off the bottom. Depending on the situation, finesse might be too delicate, and you'd need a strong profile. Thansk for the content guys

I have been trying to re-learn using a spinning reel. I am having trouble timing the line release. Do you have any suggestions?

Throw targets in the yard (I use frisbees) and take the hooks off an old lure. I practice like this all the time with both bait casters and spinning rods, it really helps with my confidence when I'm actually on the water. I will also stand on my deck to replicate casting off a boat.

How can we adapt these techniques to fish in heavy current? Where I live one of the best fishing spots is the all american canal, but it is swift current and I have a hard time getting finesse stuff down to the fish before it gets swept away

I should keep this quiet and on the “down low” but the Megabass 3” hazedong shad absolutely slays fish when it gets tough. You’re welcome.
