Finnair changes the game: 8 hours in the new AirLounge business class to JFK

In this video we have one of the first in-depth and up-close looks at what it’s like to fly Finnair’s new long-haul business class, dubbed the AirLounge, on an eight hour A330 flight from Stockholm to New York JFK. Why is it so special? Because the business seat doesn’t recline! But there's much more news than that across both hard and soft product. This innovative approach saves weight and introduces a whole new paradigm for what a business class seat can be - but does it work? That’s what we set out to find out. Finnair has rolled out its new cabins and service offerings to a handful of A330 and A350 aircraft on just a few long-haul routes now. That means a new premium economy cabin (which we also take a look at here), refreshed economy cabin, and all new food and drink offerings. I love the laidback tone and rhythm of your reviews. All the bases are covered and your commentary is about as objective as you can get. The design of the Marimekko amenity kit is superb, as is most of the stuff that comes out of that design house. The new seat looks beautiful, but just like you , I do like the lounging position and I'm not sure I'd be able to get comfortable without the recline function. Thanks!

That new seat is definitely really interesting, doesn’t tick all the boxes, but also a welcome improvement from certain other airlines. That Marimekko amenity kit looks nice too! For now I only own a United Premium Plus one

I am commenting enter into that Marimekko giveaway and to let you know that I have just found you on KZfaq and I love the details you go into in your video's. Showing the menu and amenity packs is a great help. Looking at the size of the hole for your feet to go when laying down would also be a tight squeeze if you had bigger feet. I always love how detailed your videos are. The placement of each section, volume, and real dedication to what you bring for b-roll footage. I would like to say how did you get good at the long haul travel. With the pockets of Turbulence throughout the 7-10 hours of flight is something I am trying to just break from myself. You seem like nothing bothers you on these flights.

I love the unique style of Finnair and there quirky seat, I love how the use Finnish brands like the marimekko amenity kits. I myself am waiting for covid restrictions to ease to fly this new product but love your videos and keep up the great work 👍

love what they’ve done with the middle seats, such a great solution to something which other airlines seem to have overlooked a little. And those beautiful marimekko kits are always appreciated, I like that they’re giving them out in premium economy as well!

Yep, love that it's one where you can chat with your partner onboard. I generally like the reverse herringbone seats, but the biggest issue is traveling with someone else bc when you want to talk to them, you have to wave your hand and then both lean forward to do so.

Thanks for a great review, full of relevant details and specifics. Long ago I was First Class all the time. Then I had 2 kids. Now I'm 46 - and retired early - - so, Premium Economy seems like it will be my new way to travel because I want to do some European trips from USA.

I love the idea of a DB level on each flight, it will be interesting to hear the difference between things like the A330 and the newer generation aircraft. Also, I’d like Marimekko amenity kit please 😁

I am a great and loyal follower/subscriber of Flightradar24 for a long time! Your videos would be a decent and honest way of cabin experience which I became addict versus other arroganish vloggers. I really look forward to the video where you can judge the new seat when you have to sleep in it. For this day-flight it looks really nice at least. I think it is really good and daring that Finnair went for a design like this. It shows that they are not scared to try new things. Good video, lots of information here. I love the views out of Stockholm and over northern U.S./Canada. I liked the previous Finnair offering and I like the Marimekko amenity kits as well. I will certainly be interested to see how the return flight goes. Hope you will do a full flight in Premium economy as well to see how that goes.

Flightradar24 Gabriel I Love watching your Travels in All Kinds of Aeroplanes Companies and the Latest in the Life's of Aviation..Living in New Zealand we don't experience all those Planes you take us on. As I immigrated from Holland as a Child and we were one of the First to Fly to New Zealand 1952...KLM on a Constellation 4 Prop Propeller....it took 7 days to arrive to Christchurch in those days. Just flown A350 Hel-Sin - 13 hours. Seat actually works. It does take a rethink, but once you get it, it works both as a seat and as a bed.

Probably 50-60 onboard total and most of them in the back. Yes it ends up looking like I had a private A330 hah! And yes at 6'3" it might be a little tight, or you might just fit. Stay tuned for the next one! And thanks for the comment!

"Hope we get some views", he says, then shows off the most *amazing* views over Manhattan. 😆 That cabin looks incredible... the colour is restful, the food and drink look Nordically great. Wonder why the premium cabins were all empty? What a great experience. Marimekko! Would love that amenity kit.

We flew Finnair economy a few years ago from London to Dubai. It wasn’t particularly cheap and to our surprise there wasn’t any free food and no frills. Next time we flew a different carrier.

Great video report. I love all your videos really, very detailed and very well made. Congrats ! I have a question though as I am considering booking a trip and hesitate between the AY 330 (supposedly with the new business class seat) and the BA 78X with club suites. I hear your comments regarding the lounging position, and as I have some lower back issues, I was wondering if you ended up finding a proper lounging position which would not be "painful" for the lower back? Also, looks like the loads were very light on this flight too, is it because the flight was ex-ARN ? I suppose the long haul flights ex-HEL are busier ? Keep up the great work, I wish I could do great video reports like this !

Thanks! Yes I think the ex-ARN services have seen especially light loads as they're not as well known. However these days it sounds like almost every plane is full everywhere in the world, and the cabin crew did mention that on some days even ex-ARN they had more pax. You never know, in other words. If you do have some lower back issues I think the BA Club Suites are a much safer bet. I could lounge and it was fine using the pillows, but throw any back issues into the mix and I'm not sure....

You have a very soothing voice and calmness. Glad I found you, subscribing. Question with the lounge out no recline thing, but with a foot well and leg rest that bumps up, if you were say 5'5" could you kind of lay down if you're legs weren't straight??? It looks so roomy that you could kind of curl up. ?

Finnair opened the Stockholm base after their main market in Japan and China was closed. Cargo plays a big role here, hopefully it works for them.
