Very interesting product. No recline function, means much fewer moving parts and reduced weight and fuel burn. Let’s see if other airlines instal similar style seats as part of their sustainability programmes. Also, even a toddler can differentiate a “2” from a “9”, so that was definitely a lame attempt at getting a last minute upgrade… 😂

As a finn myself and thus have flown on this airline I must say that I love it! While not being an exclusive airline like Emirates and Qatar Airways it still offers better service than most other medium-cost airlines.

Definitely an attempted “self-upgrade”. I have seen it at least 5-times in the past 10-years, and twice it was my seat they were attempting to “self-upgrade” to.

Being half Italian and half Finnish: Finns takes great proud in Finnair. I have met many Finnair employees, and they speak in great terms of the company. On the contrary, Italians were continuously bashing Alitalia and I have met several Alitalia employees engaging in less than ethical behavior. Don't know about ITA. I guess that the employees are a great part of what makes a company great. For Finnair, I know that they will usually go above and beyond in order to make you feel welcome. Thank you Finnair!

I just concluded a business class trip from LAX to Helsinki. This non reclining seat was very uncomfortable and the 3 throw pillows they include do not help. Granted...I have back issues and getting comfortable was a priority. On the way back, I flew British Air that had a more traditional design and was much more comfortable. The Finnair version cocks you off to a right angle so your legs and feet have the space to stretch out and lay down. The flight attendants were very good and the food was fine. I also love the 3 camera views of the outside included in the entertainment package. From the reviews I read online, I thought this Finnair seat version was going to be a break through. Nope...the curvature design of the back is difficult to get comfortable in even sitting up. Think of a bench front seat in a sixties automobile vs. the bucket seats they have today. The Finnair flight from Helsinki to Budapest was worse...a very old aircraft that revealed how many loose bolts there were when it landed in Budapest. I am done with Finnair.

I'm a business class traveller, but would avoid this kind of hyped seats. I find myself using the reclining seat mostly in a half bed/half seat setting, ideal for watching movies. The motorized side controls United offers, are perfect for this. I can't imagine enjoying Finnair's business seats.

I think the BA new seat (I guess shared with other airlines) is the best at present - very comfortable - you can close your ‘door’ so feel enclosed and angled for a great view out of the window for us sky gazers

I suspect that part of the reason Finnair went with this non-reclining seat is that, at least before the pandemic (when they were planning/designing this product), the bulk of their long-haul flying was overnight flights. A big part of their business was Asia, and those flights are generally overnight in both directions, so the lack of recline for daytime lounging is less important. I would be surprised to see a carrier that does most flying over the Atlantic (where generally only eastbound flights are overnight) choose this seat.

Flying on a Qantas ticket with Finnair Sydney to Bangkok later in the year & looking forward to it.

It should be noted that airlines don't lock the 787 window shades at night, as that would be absolutely pointless. They usually lock the shades on long daytime flights to allow passengers to sleep. As someone who enjoys looking out of the window inflight, I definitely don't like that feature when I have no control of it.

Give me some blueberry juice, neat glassware and sailor-suited stewardesses manning the trolleys and I'll be happy.

Nice review. Regarding cabin temperature at night (as shown at 11:15) I made the same experience during my HEL-HND flight last november. But the seats and the crew are great.

I've got a bad back and that didn't look too comfortable to me. I need the lumbar support. The extra shoulder width would be welcome but I'm not convinced. I'd prefer one that can be a Z seat too.

Non-reclining business class seat is just another way to cut cost. 1 recline seats are a lot more expensive than non-reclining ones; 2 recliner needs a lot of mechanical work it adds weight to the aircraft reduces cargo weight capacity or fuel efficiency.

Just flew on it, horrible hard, no in between it’s either sit up or lay down in full, gave me terrible back ache will never fly Finnair biz class again sadly

What a load of BS - y’all got paid by Finnair to review this so obviously will only say good things regardless. So let’s break down the FACTS: - please can you explain why a 14 hour flight has the EXACT same meal structure and food quantity as a SIX hour flight? The default Finnair J menu is One main meal with choice + one pre-arrival breakfast with ZERO choice and NO proper hot snack menu. Please can the brilliant staff and Simpleflying explain why the catering budget for a 14h flight is exactly the same as a 6h flight? We all know this is all pure cost cutting. Finnair can’t be bothered to spend a dime on more catering on longer flights. - please can you point out to ANY other airline flying 14 hours in business class that does NOT offer a choice for the second meal? Yeah you may be full from frozen processed quiche junk food but at the end of the day you got ripped off and served cheap food in business class. - No hot snack menu - for a 14 hour flight cold stale sandwiches are NOT acceptable in J as the only proper snack option . No matter how u want to spin it. So please open your eyes and start giving more open and honest reviews. Finnair business class food is premium economy at best, just putting cheap food in better plates like putting lipstick on a pig.
