Jyrki has also wrote many books on Finnish Air Force equipment with great pictures, taken by himself of course :) I'm not quite sure if all of them have been translated but at least a few of them have english text on the other side and finnish on the other side of the page. Very interesting reads with a lot of insights.

Crazy that the engine in reheat will run the main tanks dry faster than the wing tanks can refill them!

This aircraft fascinates me more and more as I read about it.

It sounds crazy, but strategically it isn't a problem. You don't need afterburner so much. In a direct intercept you have given good early warning for mission. So those fighters sitting at start of runway with pilots inside, you are rolling under 30 seconds (under 20 if excellent). You are continuing start up when you're up in the air, and then finish when you are already flying to intercept point. That is phase when you use that 2 min afterburner time. Then you have already up at 10 km when you pull throttle to full mil to fill feeder, and you are accelerating, now you get feeder full and you are close to intercept target so your 2 min limited afterburner gives you Mach 2 and you should be able either intercepting them, or needed to circle somewhat to get behind and it means slow down in speed and again acceleration to reach target. I as well thought that 2 min time is odd, but then started to think about purpose of MiG-21, a point interceptor and point fighter. With about 200-250 km combat radius, you might even operate under 150 km from your takeoff location. And having such small, fast fighters ready to go on long route of the enemy flight path, someone manages to complete even fast intercepts and launch missiles on target. For sometime I thought that maybe Soviets sold MiG-21 to Finland with those smaller diameter fuel pipes that leads from other tanks to feeder tank (no:3) that leads to engine with one large pipe that is enough keep engine in constant reheat. But fins would have modified that by installing larger pipes or more effective pumps to keep feeder filled for longer time, if so. What amazes me is example the Su-27 that has IIRC five fuel pumps in total, and they operate in maximum efficiency only when dumping fuel. And in fuel dumping it takes over 10 minutes to dump full combat fuel (2/3 of tanks or what it was). And yet in games like DCS World you run out of fuel in full reheat faster than that, when there is only 3 pumps running when not dumping fuel.
