To me it plays and reads like a story of a woman who settled too early and is regretting not getting out and living her life the way she really wanted to, now the world is totally changing and she's realizing she didn't get the chance to live her dreams causing her to get stuck in romanticizing the 1985 era. James Blunt is actually a pretty cool guy, a friend of mine worked in a large local venue doing the lighting and so he had backstage access to pretty much any act that came in. It was generally mid tier pop acts and 80s classics as it was a small shitty city but when we'd go out drinking on a saturday night we'd swing by and generally make a nuisance of ourselves trying to talk to all these various acts. We met James Blunt backstage in the kitchen area and he seemed really cool, he had great banter and was fully aware of how sick of him a lot of people were because it was basically impossible to escape him on TVradio, he even gave me a signed CD for my mum because she was in his key demographic. Other notable people we met were Lionel Richie who was super nice, Madness were pretty cool and we shared a joint with someone from UB40
