Loved the Black dudes reactions. He’s spot on. Say what you will about Slipknot or Corey Taylor, the dude is a poet and an erudite with his lyrics. He is actually quite well read and tries to incorporate intellectually stimulating and existential topics into his lyrics. He got a lot of criticism for his over usage of expletives on the first two albums and then incorporated more sophistication and depth into his lyrics in his musical pursuits since.

Respect. It’s rare to find kids that listen to rock music in general. Hence kids that do listen to rock music listen bands us older generation listened to as kids.

Gen Z as well, born in '03 and grew up on rock and metal. From the classics to the new stuff, I have huge admiration for every era of rock and metal, and I like to dabble in other genres as well. Without metal, I would literally not be the person I am now, I would not have had the mindset I have or the creative thinking I have when it comes to art and music. Slipknot helps me when I'm in my darkest hole, Corey himself is a huge inspiration and idol to me.

@@jakemillar6925 I think post-Stonesour and factoring in the huge commercial success they started to receive when Corey started turning Slipknot into basically just a heavier Stonesour, Slipknot is basically a radio rock band like Breaking Benjamin but can also occasionally and strategically still incorporate some more extreme elements to straddle that line, both being palatable enough to make good money but also appease the older fans too

And Slipknot may as well be top 40 pop music compared to some of the truly heavy HEAVY METAL that's out there. Heaven help these guys if they ever hear Cattle Decapitation and other similar bands😂😂

Also born in '99. My pops was into rock and my mom into pop so I got the best of both worlds growing up. Thanks to them not being super judgemental of what I was exploring, I was able to adopt a mature mentality towards music at a pretty young age. I will make sure that I carry on that tradition

I'm glad that kids love Limp bizkit compared with other bands. They are way better than slipknot and Fred Durst is an amazing singer that can rap and get the crowd going crazy. Very underrated frontman

@ghost mall I mean, it's technically still around. But from the mainstream? It definitely went away for the last decade+ in favor of EDM, and then Hiphop. The closest thing you'll see this gen talk about Rock is the Pop Punk spearheaded by Travis Barker and anime/video game openers I'm pretty sure that it'll be the next big thing, it's always waves, kids getting bored of what their older siblings and parents listened to ten years beforehand, etc. Long as the music's good in general, bring on whatever lol

But it seems like that with the later end of Gen Z and the generation after them, this is really how they are and that they do get weirded out pretty good with stuff like this. Which is both funny, sad and fairly concerning. Sure not all are, because that'd be an absolutely stupid assessment. But many really are effeminate and can't handle certain topics or darker imagery or heavier music that isn't hip hop. And I say this as someone who has gay friends, and they still remember stuff like slipknot, old Bring Me The Horizon and other bands like that. And have 0 issue listening to it still. Hell, some of them still listen to it. Case in point, one of my friends is pretty effeminate in both appearance and mannerisms, but is heavily into hardcore punk, heavy metal and just darker imagery in general. Millennials and early gen Z( both gay and straight) by I'm large seem to be fine with heavy metal and darker imagery, while Late Gen Z and younger seem to have a definite aversion to it completely.
