What a joy watching Fiona and Quentin nerding out about the power of being your unapologetic self and daring to explode that inner truth to the world in music and film. Don't ever let the naysayers and haters hold you back! 😊💖

I really think Fiona’s misery early in her career worked for her cuz she fit in really well with that Riot girl movement in the mid-90s. I could see how she was miserable though cuz she was very mis marketed by her team cuz she’s more of a jazz/ soul singer that was pushed to an alternative crowd.
@kalimile1917 Жыл бұрын
it worked so well for her. she transitioned into more alternative sounds on later albums so I think that helped a lot.
@zimzimzalabim5 ай бұрын
Very interesting take. I do think that this perception helped her market her music and give her more credibility and the MTV / alternative audiences. The jazz/soul influence was always there, and her oldest fans know it. Artists in the beginning don't have a lot of control over their careers but it does seem like she was given leeway to create most of her music on her own terms. It would be naive to deny that having connections in the film industry (dating PTA, being fiends with QT) didn't help her though. Fiona never got a bad reputation, as far as I remember. She's been reclusive and open about not liking fame but is smart and media-savvy enough to understand how to market her art, which has led her to a steady, fruitful career spanning 3 decades that allows her to make the music that she wants to make, taking her time to experiment and release albums when she is satisfied with the final product. All in all, I don't think she has much to complain about.

good job Simon. Fiona, such a pure soul with the scariest most beautiful eyes. U can get lost in those eyes & combined with her angelic voice tone, hypnotic & spell binding. then comes the smile, a beam of light, fire!! Fiona should come to sunny Melb Australia. Maybe this town ain't cool enough for her. But her presence would be such a jewel, an amazing asset. El Naturel. Pure beauty. So real yet unbelievable brilliance 👌 🤠❤🤸♂️

Now people can stop using Fiona to be mean about Quentin - keep seeing people quoting her story about getting sober after that night with him and PTA in the context of “see, Fiona can’t stand him” and always would think “but on Iconoclasts it was clear they have a really special friendship…” I like them both - Fiona more, I have an extraordinary machine tattoo - but I like Quentin’s work and I think he’s not as much of an asshole as people think. When she said that night was “excruciating” my interpretation is that she is mainly thinking of PTA, and also just of what people who are already intense are like on coke!
@FionaAppleRocks2 жыл бұрын
I have no idea where Fiona is with Quentin, but my own thoughts are that Tarantino started out making movies that were just violent exploitation films but over the years have gotten better and better. People who hated his early movies should give him another try. PTA's movies on the other hand have just got worse and more boringly populist over time, probably because he is running out of ideas he can steal from old Robert Altman movies.
@cassiecarpenter2 жыл бұрын
@@FionaAppleRocks savage 💀 nobody blinked when PTA directed a love story between a woman and a 15-year-old boy. He hasn’t made a good movie since Magnolia… and we all know how much Fiona inspired that one 💪🏻
