I am so grateful Fiona only writes what she wants, when she wants. That's one of the reasons she's an extraordinary machine. That collision of emotion and talent is why she's kept my attention her entire career.

I love her philosophy on creating - "after you've made something, you should feel like you have nothing left in you". Brilliant.

"If you are not overflowing with somehing then there's nothing to give". Wow. I don't think she even realized how powerful that line was. Love me some Fiona Apple.

I like Fiona's view on making art: you can't create a work of art for the sake of making it.

I think the title's supposed to be 'Quentin Tarantino in Iconoclasts'. Fiona Apple features but it's more like a few clips spliced together for the hell of it, ha. It was interesting to hear what she had to say though, some interesting things. I like to hear her opinions, they usually mean something, they're worthwhile.

It sounds like they're not really communicating, just telling personal factoids to themselves in front of each other. I wonder if this is how most 'Hollywood' conversations are.
@RyanStorey12319 жыл бұрын
maddhattertime Even so, their conversation is more scintillating and evocative than most of the conversations we have with most people.
@DarlingPhenylethylamine9 жыл бұрын
maddhattertime Yes, that's what happens when at least one person in a conversation is self-focused, the other person can't do much else but listen or respond with something about themselves which relates to the other person's little ego field trip.

Actual geniuses like Steven Hawking or other renowned physicists and mathematicians don't talk about their IQ or join mensa. They demonstrate their intelligence by the work they do. Only those that are self-conscious or feel inadequate try to compensate by discussing their score on a test.

Quentin's right - there is no "they". And what was said right at the end of this clip about it being a mountain and having nothing left in the tank is sound advice too.

@DarlingPhenylethylamine9 жыл бұрын
LunaSeaSane How did her maturity spoil it?
@LunaSeaSane9 жыл бұрын
By eating s*** and backtracking.
@DarlingPhenylethylamine9 жыл бұрын
What, because she said she was pouty and miserable when she started out? How is that backtracking? What she says doesn't tie into the MTV awards statement, just because the makers of this Iconoclasts show have married those cuts together - probably on purpose to discredit that act of hers. She still maintains that the celebrity world is bullshit, now more than ever I'd imagine, but when she started in the industry she was miserable, didn't fully embrace what she had, it's self-explanatory but she does explain why quite clearly here.
@LunaSeaSane9 жыл бұрын
Darling Phenylethylamine Downplaying the fact that you should GO WITH YOURSELF, in life. That, and people who love you. For real. Industry (for the most... thus, glorious exceptions aside) seems to be mainly about focal points; - Stick to it; - Sell it; - They're happy - we're all happy. - You probably won't reach a 4th album... but it's surely for the best, considering how career artists have way too much power for us to "handle" them properly.
@DarlingPhenylethylamine9 жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't see how she's downplaying what she said at all. I listened again, what she says doesn't (and isn't supposed to) detract from her original statement.

...(cont) so in the case of quentin, say the pr person for the studio realized the backlash of the negative reviews that would say 'pulp fiction' could only come from a stupid brain because it is about a bunch of stupid people. to make the director more interesting/mysterious, they could spread the rumor that his iq is actually that of a genius- which, at the time, would've been completely unexpected/shocking

@rohme12 жыл бұрын
@AshlynViera if he wasn't "weird" his movies probably would be as good as they are, compared to a lot of other "normal" directors...there ought to be more people that are encouraged to show as much curiosity and enthusiasm for life and for his art as quentin

I wish I could write dialogue like Tarantino.
@NoSevenProductions12 жыл бұрын
I didn't know it was a gossip sight. There are hundreds of sources that say the same thing. Just sayin, I've read his fan-response letters. Spelling/grammar errors don't make someone unintelligent. He is an extremely brilliant thinker. Besides, if you can't read his mind, think his thoughts, or grow up the exact same way as him, then don't judge him for the way he right's fan letters or the way he interviews. Also, what the fuck is a "PR move."
@JasonBlakemoregoogle10 жыл бұрын
there is no they
@NoSevenProductions12 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it was just a write-o. Why are you hatin on Tarantino? The man is a fucking genius. He doesn't just write stories, he's written an entire universe. Why have actors like Brad Pitt considered him genius and one of, if not the best screenwriters and directors of our time? Common man. He does have an IQ that high. I can nearly guaranty it.

'pr' stands for 'public relations'...all celebrities and large companies hire these people to handle their public image. what does this entail? everything from telling lindsay lohan what to wear to court to spreading gossip to squashing gossip. they book interviews with tv shows and magazines- if they are REALLY good, they can the public PERCEIVE a celebrity to be a total movie star when in fact they only did a few shit movies.
@NoSevenProductions12 жыл бұрын
Well, he didn't want to be a physicist... he wanted to be a filmmaker. I'm just saying that he actually does have an extremely high IQ. He's smart. He can think on so many levels and that's why he's one of the most creative story tellers of our time. He creates universes, not stories. A lot of his movies sort of intertwine. It's kind of cool.
@fothermuckerrr11 жыл бұрын
He doesnt have an iq of 160. search youtube for ' Quentin Tarantino Interview, 1997 (1/3) - Howard Stern Show'
@TheDashDoll12 жыл бұрын
they'd be a great couple.
@sydandtaytum12 жыл бұрын
actually, he likely doesn't have an iq nearly that high. it was probably a rumor made by a hollywood agent to give him an aura of genius since the films he makes are so purposely crude. a letter he sent to a fan back in 1996 surfaced, and it looks/sounds like it is written by a 3rd grader. go look it up. he couldn't even spell 'italian'
@jsnukem12 жыл бұрын
they're both so freaking crazy and annoying....when they're just talking of course. guess that makes sense though; you can't have it all! btw, norm macdonald's impression of him is spot on lol.
@InTuneGarage7 жыл бұрын
this man has an iq of 160. which is pretty much unheard of and its right next to Steven hawking. there is a reason why his thinking is outlandish and people like us who are simple find it hard to understand.
@sydandtaytum12 жыл бұрын
lol. did u really quote a gossip site?? like i said, i think it was just a smart PR move to tell the world he has a 160 iq. look, i have around a 140 iq (tested twice, at different points in my life)...and he does not sound/seem smarter than me. then i read his fan-response letters---- u REALLY have to google it. there are 2 of them--- and they both are ridiculously child-like in phrasing and spelling .it COULD NOT come from a genius.
@StevenZB112 жыл бұрын
You said he didn't seem smarter than you, therefore his IQ was not higher than yours. That is a completely illogical and unintelligent thing to say. You are basing your position from a completely anecdotal point of view. You cannot assume what the persona of highly intelligent people are or if intelligence does affect persona because there is a possibility it does not.
@Notchoosing Жыл бұрын
Why does he think he’s smart ???
@sydandtaytum12 жыл бұрын
yea, speaking english correctly is arrogant. slang is fine and all, but it doesn't even seem like you knew you were "talking stupid"
@sydandtaytum12 жыл бұрын
ugh, what an american thing to say. intelligence is measurable in that the amount that can be absorbed and then reused in another way can be measured- which is what iq tries to measure. you completely avoided the point by using your comment to distract from the fact his iq could not possibly at those levels.
